Item #: SCP-XXXX Trouble Trousers
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: Object is to be locked up in a standard locked container. No further containment procedures are to be deployed.
Description:
SCP-XXXX is a pair of camouflaged pants which were found in the male dressing room of the now closed "Diana Dancing" dance school. The SCP foundation started investigation after one of the students suffered multiple severe fractures to the lower limbs. This was caused by the anomalous properties of the object.
Before putting them on, the Object has the properties of any common pair of pants. After putting them on completely, the material will stiffen for approximately 15 seconds. During this time period the subject will not be able to take them off. This effect is determined to be purely psychological. This phase will be referred to as the "initiation phase" .
After the initiation phase has passed the pants will contract until they hold the subjects legs firmly and start moving on their own accord. The movements correspond to perfect executions of different dances, which heavily focus on leg movement. The most popular example is the "Irish Tap Dance".
The effects after the initiation phase are categorised into two types of events:
- Type A Event: The subject doesn't try do defend itself and lets its legs loose. The subjects leg will start to perfectly imitate dances. The coise of dance is thought of to be random, but further research is needed. In this case the pants seize their effects after roughly one standard routine of the currently performed dance and can be taken off without effort.
- Type B Event: This outcome occurs, if the subject tenses it's legs and does not cooperate with the object. The pants will still try to exert their effect by exponentially raising the force used. If the subject starts to cooperate the outcome will switch to the consensual outcome. If the subject further resists the inconsensual outcome will further be executed. This effect consists of rising the applied force for 10 (ten) minutes or until the subject loses muscle tone. During this time period usually multiple leg and hip bones break under the force applied. After one of the cases occur the effects will seize and the pants can be taken off easily.
SCP-XXXX Test Log:
Test XXXX-1:
Subject: D-XXXX-1 (male, no dancing experience)
Test: D-XXXX-1 was instructed to put SCP-XXXX on. D-XXXX-1 was told not to resist SCP-XXXX's effect. After putting SCP-XXXX on the initiation phase commenced instantly. After the tightening of SCP-XXXX the test subject states discomfort. The lack of resistance triggered a Type A Event. The test subject goes on to perform a perfect rendering of a standard ballet routine exclusively using his legs (no effect on the upper body) The test subject was not harmed in the process and was able to take SCP-XXXX off without interference after the effects of SCP-XXXX concluded. The object is put back into containment.
Test XXXX-2:
Subject: D-XXXX-2 (female, went to a "rave" once)
Test: D-XXXX-2 was told to put SCP-XXXX on. D-XXXX-2 was told to resist the effects of SCP-XXXX within their capabilities. The first phase of the test did not vary from Test XXXX-1. After SCP-XXXX started executing a standard tap dance routine the subject tried to counteract it what triggered a Type B Event. Almost instantly the test subject screamed out in pain as their legs made a cracking sound. As the effects stopped the test subject was still concious, but dropped to the floor instantly as the test subject's legs were too damaged to support the weight. SCP-XXXX was able to be removed from D-XXXX-2's legs without resistance after the effects seized.Post-test X-ray scans revealed two broken femurs, a dislocated kneecap, disconnected tendants in the knee area and multiple fractures of the hip sockets. This is in line with the effects involuntary movements while tensing of the muscles.
Test XXXX-3:
Subject: Dr. █████ (used to dance regularly with his wife Dr. █████ pre-injury)
Test: Dr. █████ is suffering from complete paraplegia as a result of a car crash and volunteered as a test subject under the condition that his wife, Dr. █████, is to be present
He stated:
"Since the incident my only wish was to dance with my wife one more time"
SCP-XXXX was put on his legs by foundation staff. After the initiation period Dr. █████ was stood up by SCP-XXXX and was visibly startled. He then went on to perform a walz. He invited his wife to dance with him. The present staff expressed their concerns, but didn't intervene. They went on to perform the dance together and were visibly moved. In an interview this was determined to be not a effect of SCP-XXXX.
After the dance routine ended Dr. █████'s legs went limp again. To avoid injury staff caught him and seated him back into his wheelchair. SCP-XXXX was able to be removed with staff assistance and was placed back into the secured container.
Test XXXX-4:
Subject: standard female mannequin
Test: After putting SCP-XXXX onto the mannequin the initiation phase started. This phase lasted for a longer duration than usual. After ~30min of observation the initiation period terminated and the fabric went slack. Staff noted, that the extraction of SCP-XXXX from the mannequin's legs was met with slight resistance, but was succesfully performed after elevated force was applied. No additional activity was reported.
Addendum-1: On closer inspection after recovery a sewn in message was noticed by recovery agents.
"A dance of joy and pain"
The sewn in text is theorised to be related to a quote by Martha Graham:1
“Dance is a song of the body. Either of joy or pain.”
