Amnestic Prototype
Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: All documentation regarding the structural formula and synthesis process for SCP-XXXX is stored in Site-311 databases, and is accessible to staff with Level 3/XXXX clearance. Any plans for experiments involving SCP-XXXX must be submitted for review by the director of Site-311.
Staff interacting with SCP-XXXX must follow the safety guidelines outlined in Document XXXX-12. Any samples of SCP-XXXX remaining after the conclusion of experimentation must be subjected to aggressive fluorination before disposal by application of organic catalyst K-161.
Subjects subjected (either intentionally or inadvertently) to the effects of SCP-XXXX must be treated with broad-spectrum amnestic therapy by a qualified amnesticist following the conclusion of the experiment in which they are involved. D-class personnel, as well as any individuals whose loyalty to the Foundation is under question for any reason, must not be used for testing of SCP-XXXX.
Development of new amnestic substances must include a testing phase to rule out any anomalous properties comparable to those of SCP-XXXX.
Risk analysis suggests that non-Foundation entities are unlikely to inadvertently synthesize SCP-XXXX with currently-available technology on account of the highly-complex chemical structure of SCP-XXXX. Due to this, containment procedures for suppressing discovery of SCP-XXXX by non-Foundation entities are currently deemed unnecessary. All scientific papers relating to the synthesis of complex biochemicals are reviewed when published to check for any possible precursors to the discovery of SCP-XXXX; containment protocols will be reviewed and reassessed if such a precursor is detected.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a psychoactive chemical which was first synthesized during the Foundation's original research process into developing a general short-term amnestic substance2. SCP-XXXX exists as a crystalline white solid at standard temperature and pressure, and displays several psychoactive effects when metabolized by a human, including its primary anomalous effect.
SCP-XXXX primarily acts successfully as a general short-term amnestic when administered as such. It induces a hypnotic trance-like state in the subject, and a total loss of memory of a variable time period3 leading up to the end of this hypnotic state. Importantly, SCP-XXXX also exhibits the secondary desired effect of a general amnestic, in that it automatically replaces the lost memory with a period of false memory, without the need for an amnesticist to implant the false memories during the hypnotic state.
The false memories created are the primary anomaly associated with SCP-XXXX. Rather than drawing from the subject's existing memories to generate a plausible replacement for the lost memory4, SCP-XXXX generates wildly implausible false memories, all of which invariably involve the subject gaining reality-bending abilities. Subjects will subsequently demonstrate reality-bending abilities identical to those they recall attaining. These effects are highly unpredictable in nature, and will persist until all traces of SCP-XXXX are excreted from the subject's body - a process which takes between 2 to 4 weeks.
