Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures:

Direct access to or information about, SCP-XXXX is limited to personnel with Level 2 clearance or higher.

SCP-XXXX and SCP-XXXX-1 instances are being held at Area-109. SCP-XXXX is to be contained in a plot of nutrient-rich soil 3x3x1 meters in dimension. The plot of soil, along with SCP-XXXX, must be put inside an airtight chamber filled with moist air, with enough space to allow two 1.91 meter tall staff members to freely enter and exit for routine soil replacement and experiments. The soil inside SCP-XXXX's plot must also be replaced with new nutrient-rich soil at the end of every week.

The air inside SCP-XXXX's containment chamber must be routinely checked for contamination by its spores. If the air inside SCP-XXXX's chamber is contaminated by spores, the air must be filtered out and replaced. If any Foundation personnel breathe in SCP-XXXX's spores, they must be turned in for immediate medical evaluation. If any staff personnel are found to be infected with SCP-XXXX spores, they must be quarantined and then either studied or terminated. Any corpses infected with SCP-XXXX spores must be cremated.

SCP-XXXX-1 instances are to be put in a standard humanoid containment chamber, furnished with objects appropriate to SCP-XXXX's believed time period. Instances of SCP-XXXX-1 must be fed a balanced meal three times a day.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a white, bulbous puffball fungus with the ability to give people the memories, and abilities of an individual living during the time of a historical war dating back, up to World War I. SCP-XXXX's anomalous properties are activated via inhalation of its spores. Origins of SCP-XXXX are currently unknown, as DNA testing shows that it is not related to any species of puffball fungi in the areas in which it is found.

After several experiments using D-class subjects, it has been found that individuals that enter within a 10-meter radius of SCP-XXXX will trigger it to burst its upper head and release a yellow cloud of spores. Because SCP-XXXX has such a large trigger radius, the only authorized method of neutralization for this SCP is covering the surrounding area with plastic to contain the release of spores and burning the fungi and spores using a flame thrower. If any individual breathes in the spores released by SCP-XXXX, they will quickly develop a headache and or sore throat 5-6 minutes prior to passing out after the initial inhalation (Subjects tend to pass out around 10-30 minutes after initial exposure). After infected subjects have been unconscious for approximately half an hour, most subjects will wake up and become an instance of SCP-XXXX-1. If the transformation into SCP-XXXX-1 is unsuccessful, subjects will die instead, usually due to a collapsed lung or heart attack.

Subjects that have turned into an instance of SCP-XXXX-1 will adopt the personality and memories of an individual who participated in a historical war, while simultaneously believing that their respective war is currently taking place. Currently, the memories a subject adopts after inhaling SCP-XXXX's spores, do not regress past World War I, which suggests that SCP-XXXX originated around 1914. Although SCP-XXXX spores allow a subject to gain the memories and skills possessed by a person in the past, they are not guaranteed to know their native language, usually defaulting to English.

Instances of SCP-XXXX-1 are incapable of seeing items that were not present during their believed time period. While instances of SCP-XXXX-1 are incapable of seeing objects that did not exist during their time period, they are capable of seeing and using items that were present during their time period, even when an item is not provided. Infected individuals are able to perceive and use objects that do not currently exist in their immediate vicinity, suggesting that infected subjects are partially immersed in another dimension or equivalent. Although instances of SCP-XXXX-1 cannot see items that do not belong to their time period, they are able to come into contact with them. As of ██/██/████, tests have been conducted in order to attempt to convince instances of SCP-XXXX-1 that their perception of reality is incorrect by making them touch objects outside their time period. Testing with this quality of SCP-XXXX-1 has shown that infected individuals are capable of coming to the conclusion that they are not living during a historical war. If an instance of SCP-XXXX-1 ever breaks free from the effects of SCP-XXXX's spores, they will either revert back to their normal selves and lose all memories created during their infected state or develop intense Schizophrenia and attempt to commit suicide. The attempts to successfully revert subjects back to their original state has been established as Project Win-Back.

The Foundation is currently in possession of ██ instances of SCP-XXXX-1. At the time this file has been created, Area-109 has had zero containment breaches pertaining to SCP-XXXX. Although no breaches have currently been reported, SCP-XXXX-1 variants have been observed to have drastically different behavioral patterns. Some of these behavioral patterns range from resorting to violence frequently, to avoiding conflict at all cost. In order to distinguish between instances of SCP-XXXX-1 that pose a safety threat, and those that do not, a partial list of subjects has been created based on the subject's compliance or defiance to instructions (See Document XXXX-8).

SCP-XXXX-1 instances are authorized for interviewing in its containment cell if they have a risk and compliance level below high (Although exceptions may be made). For a partial list of SCP-XXXX-1 interview candidates and interview logs, read document XXXX-8 and XXXX-23 respectively.

History: SCP-XXXX was originally found in ███████, after many civilians filed police complaints about loud noises and hysterical people coming from abandoned buildings, formerly known as ███████ mental hospitals for veterans of war. SCP-XXXX was found in many of those hospitals, along with infected bodies (SCP-XXXX-1). While SCP-XXXX was originally found in a ███████ mental hospital, SCP-XXXX has also been found growing in abandoned war factories, abandoned military bases/sites, and deserted laboratories in America, Europe, and various locations in Asia (Read Document XXXX-26 for more information).
