Item #: SCP: SCP-XXXX-Living Paint
Object Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX should be contained within a 2M X 2M x 2M airtight room with a controlled atmosphere of 0% humidity at 20° C. The seal must prevent all light from escaping through possible cracks in corners or edges. The inside of the containment chamber must be made of polished steel mirrors (composed of no less than 20% chromium). The chamber should be checked bi-weekly for any tarnishes on the mirror's surfaces or structural failures, identified as chipping or cracking, in the edges and corners.
High intensity fluorescent lights with a reading of at least ten-thousand (10,000) Lumens each must line all edges of the containment chamber while in containment or during transportation.
All ventilation and AC units connected to SCP-XXXXs chambers must have interior walls polished similarly to the containment chamber, with lights of the same specifications lining all edges. During a containment breach of any magnitude, a fail safe door is to automatically shut the ducts to prevent SCP-XXXX from escaping containment via air systems.
The door of the containment chamber must be connected to an airlock with the same specifications as stated prior, the outer door must be shined with a minimum of four hundred-thousand (400,000) Lumens1 total when the airlock is initiated to allow personnel to inspect the chambers.
All personnel must carry at least two (2) FENIX TK20R2 hand torches when entering SCP-XXXXs chambers. If SCP-XXXX-A manages to break containment, several personnel are to "drown" it in a constant beam of light until SCP-XXXX-A is terminated.
All personnel must wear a Level-3 Contained Atmosphere suit fully covered with highly reflective foil found in civilian construction vests to prevent SCP-XXXX from leaking into the suit when operating within the chambers. The suit must have the visor replaced with an airtight camera that transmits the feed to a monitor the operator can use to see3.
Description:SCP-XXXX is a ████ brand aerosol spray can in the color purple recovered from █████████, date of purchase is currently unknown. The owner of the can claims to be an artist and organic chemistry intern ██ years of age working at [DATA EXPUNGED]. Subject and immediate family were administered Class-B amnesics. The can is 6 cm in diameter and 18 cm in total length without the cap, a pressure gauge and male nipple connector are fitted to the round side of the body with decaying Teflon tape on the threads. No cap is necessary as the contents are not contained by it.
SCP-XXXX was identified as a cost-effective, refillable alternative by the owner, with plans to sell the paint formula as a product prior to the discovery of SCP-XXXXs anomalous properties. The formula's plans were confiscated and are currently stored in [REDACTED]. The Foundation gained interest when multiple police reports were brought to attention by field Agent-████ on 2/13/09.
Reports claimed to see a large black mass similar to a shadow (although much darker) flood the streets but abruptly stop after the shadow cast by the home ended. The shadow soon expired after 20 minutes after the sun rose, effectively having its food source stifled. No civilians were harmed.
Attempts to recreate the formula were successful, see Incident Log 5/28/09
When released from its container, SCP-XXXX-A sticks to any and all non-reflective surfaces and rapidly assimilates all shadows, being able to absorb more shadows in higher light areas until possibly reaching a 100% absorption rate. SCP-XXXX is also able to absorb all matter excluding organic (see Test Log-A) to aid its assimilation rate. Researchers are still unable to understand how it is able to do so as experimentation is limited.
SCP-XXXXs liquid paint formula contains high concentrations of organic compounds such as Melanin and Chlorophyll with the base consisting of inorganic compound [DATA EXPUNGED]. How the creator was able to synthesize such compounds is unknown to personnel.
SCP- XXXX is to not be used as a conditional spray paint under any circumstances, with experimentation being approved only after two (2) or more 05-Council members approve of it.
Addendum:Incident Log 5/28/09
On 5/28/09, research head director Dr. Mandarin approves Dr.██████ to continue with testing after receiving adequate confirmation from 05-Council members to begin attempts at synthesizing SCP-XXXX.
At ████ p.m, Dr.███ and co-researcher Dr.█████ become unresponsive and attempts at audio contact are stifled by screams and frantic yelling. Seven (7) armed guards enter the research lab, allowing SCP-XXXX to breach containment. SCP-XXXX is finally secured at ████ a.m after the combined forces of ██ personell armed with hand torches.
Nineteen (19) guards succumb to temporary effects of SCP-XXXX and all make a full recovery after a 2-week period of mental evaluations. Both researchers make a full recovery after 7 weeks of mental evaluations while on suicide watch. Audio interviews have proved unsuccessful with both researchers going silent and becoming unresponsive.
Test A - 3/04/2009__
Subject: D-29007
Procedure: Spray a small amount of SCP-XXXX onto a one (1) square meter canvas, and make attempts to communicate with it
Result: The paint begins to slowly absorb light in the room, D-29007 begins showing distress4 and begins to negotiate with the mass as instructed. No affect. D-29007 is seemingly absorbed by SCP-XXXX despite screams continuing to stay audible; camera equipment completely engulfed in darkness. Flood lights turn on and after 30 minutes of continuous light SCP-XXXX-A expires. D-29007 is diagnosed with PTSD, unresponsive, is later found dead by suicide in living unit.
Analysis: SCP-XXXX may ensue a primitive fear of the dark due to 99.27% light absorption levels recorded during experiments; more research required to support this hypothesis. SCP-XXXX may also be a Prokaryotic cell organism with the only desire to expand (plausible).
