Item #: SCP-1984

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: Due to the extremely large area encompassed by SCP-1984, and the full extent of which being unknown, full containment is not presently possible.

Foundation personnel in the nations of Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Western Sahara, Muartinia, Mali, Niger, Chad, and Sudan are to monitor fossil and archaeological digs and media, and suppress information pertaining to SCP-1984. Anomalous fossils and artifacts are to be taken into custody and catalogued.

Description: SCP-1984 is the designation for the Sahara Desert, more specifically the grounds which contain an estimated 23% of all fossils in northern Africa.

SCP-1984 has an unusually large amount of fossil remains of anomalous organisms, an estimated 10% above the global average. However the variation of the anomalous organisms in question is the most significant factor. Evolutionary clades from various unconnected regions of the worlds have been discovered within SCP-1984, including representatives from the Japanese archipelago, Australia, Europe, South America, North America, and Sri Lanka, among others.

Due to the unusually high biological diversity that SCP-1984 possesses, coupled by recent archaeological discoveries, and the extremely low likelihood of such a large spontaneous teleportation event, it has been theorized that SCP-1984 was artificially created by an unknown organization operating in northern Africa between 100 BCE and 200 CE.
