Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: Any sewage system containing SCP 5xxx is to be sealed off and the flow redirected to another underground passage to prevent the spread of SCP 5xxx spores. All water treatment plants in an known area affected SCP 5xxx are to be monitored for spores or other plant parts.
Description: SCP 5xxx is a newly discovered species of plant of the order Vitaceae. SCP 5xxx is similar in appearance to Parthenocissus Tricupidata commonly known as Boston Ivy. Unlike other members of its species, SCP 5xxx does not have a need for sunlight, growing in sewage systems. It feeds off the waste in sewage systems, even creeping up the sides of a sewage tunnel to consume the moisture that gathers. As a result of this diet, SCP 5xxx has a foul smell that comes off its flowers when it blooms for sexual reproduction. SCP 5xxx is invasive, as the growth will follow sewage all the way to the source. This means the plants will grow out of sink faucets, toilets and drains. The resulting damage from SCP 5xxx often causes the replacement of pipes, garbage disposal and even whole sinks.
Discovery: On 01/18/20 the Foundation received a report about a recently created Dead Zone in
--, Washington. The incident was investigated by the foundation because the location of the dead zone encompasses almost half a town of 50,000 people and was created rather quickly. The official reports from the city council estimated 23,000 residents had to relocate in a time period of roughly 3 weeks. Foundation agents were deployed to investigate a possible anomaly. SCP 5xxx was discovered when MTF Unit SOAP-4 were roaming the sewage system and were able to track vines of SCP 5xxx going into former residences. The plant was brought back to site 18 where it was further tested and found to be anomalous in nature. However, when the foundation reviewed the incident reports from the town archives, there was very little mention of SCP 5xxx. Furthermore, what reports did mention SCP 5xxx do not refer to it as the source of relocation. The town’s reports instead sourced the western water treatment facility being poisoned.
Addendum 01 Civilizan Discovery of SCP 5xxx
Foundation operatives had originally believed the town had accidentally poisoned themselves, however, foundation operatives could find no records of city officials trying to control the spread of SCP 5xxx themselves. What was discovered was that complaints from the town's people about SCP 5xxx regularly causing destruction were taken as a serious city issue. At first, the town's people were given special instructions to stop SCP 5xxx from coming through pipes. This included regularly running substances such as bleach and drain cleaner down through pipes and regular drain snaking. These methods kill vines existing in the pipes, but do not stop new ones from coming back. The city santianary and waste management launched an official investigation into finding the source of 5xxx. Upon entering the sewage system in the western side of the town, they discovered massive overgrowths of SCP 5xxx in the older parts of system; which had been neglected to the lack of funds. There was also vines in newer part of the system.
Addendum 02: Further Action by City Waste Management
SCP 5xxx was believed to be a escaped house plant that is parasitic in nature. City waste management team failed to completely destroy SCP 5xxx after multiple attempts. This led to a battle over budget between the county commissioners and the city council. The mayor of the town writes a letter to the district representative, complaining of SCP 5xxx and not having enough funds nor the means of getting rid of it. The representative contacts the state governor. The letter lands on the desk of his assistant, who is later revealed to be GOC operative.
Addendum 03: Action taken by the GOC
The undercover representative for the GOC contacts his colleagues. Upon review of the report the GOC invesigates and identifies SCP 5xxx as an anomaly. Because of the highly destructive nature of SCP 5xxx infestations, it is designated a high level threat to humanity. The GOC enters the town of [Redacted], Washington under the guise of being new exterminators sent by the governor. It is at this point at that GOC decides to try to eliminate SCP 5xxx themselves through through the use of a still unknown poison. They used this poison by placing it into needles and injecting it directly into the root systems of SCP 5xxx. However, what the GOC did not know is that SCP 5xxx would react by becoming resilient and treating the poison as a new form of food. SCP 5xxx metabolized it to be an even stronger version of the poison which meant it was now found in the leaves and branches of SCP 5xxx. When the plant shed its leaves due to normal life and death cycles, the leaves would dissolve and poison the water. The GOC failed to properly put fail safes in place to stop water flows that passed through SCP 5xxx from breaking through. The western half of the town was forced to be relocated to the outskirts of the eastern half.
**Addendum 04: Request to demolish buildings remaining in the Dead Zone*
