Item #: SCP-9880 "Unyielding Carnage"
Object Class: Thaumiel Neutralised
Special Containment Procedures:
SCP-9880's entrance is to be guarded by 10 guards with assault rifles and automatic railgun turrets. These guards must wear noise-cancelling headphones that provide communication to each other. Any guard that removes headphones for any reason must be shot, along with any organism that escapes the area in which 9880 resides.
Description: SCP-9880 appears to be a massive, dark area within a cave residing in the [REDACTED] region of the [REDACTED] Mountain Range, near an ancient city. The cave is roughly 15 feet in height, and a width of 10 feet. Any organism that comes within 300 meters of the anomaly will begin to hear whispers from an unknown source, telling the victim to inflict violence, a clear cognitohazard. They will also suddenly gain an uncharacteristic strength and agility and their metabolism will go into overdrive. This cognitohazard increases in efficacy the closer one gets to the cave where SCP-9880 resides. Any persons who are affected by this cognitohazard are classified as an instance of 9880-1, and will proceed to slaughter any living thing nearby. It has been noted, however, that the cognitohazard's efficacy also varies from person to person, and some people have high immunity. Attempts to determine a pattern have been inconclusive.
Addendum 9880-A: Interview of Exploration Log A
Interviewer: Dr. Craig
Interviewee: D-4585
The following log is an interview between a surviving D-Class of the 9890 Exploration endeavor, and the Doctor in charge of SCP 9880's observation, Dr. Craig.
Beginning Notes: This is the interview that occurred after D-4585 and 5 other D-Class personnel entered the cave of 9880, with an MTF squad on watch.
*Begin Log*
Dr. Craig enters the interview room and sits across from the D-Class.
Dr. Craig: I imagine you just want to get to the point, so I'll be brief. We want to know what happened.
D-4585: R-Right. Well, the headphones you gave us, we put it on, and so did the others. But as we got close to it, one guy, he…he said his ear was itchy, and took them off.
Dr. Craig: D-8140?
D-4585: He had a name. Ron. I got to know all of them, and treated them like actual people. Anyway, he took his headphones off just for a second. But one of those MTF guys blew his brains out. Poor guy didn't have time to think.
Dr. Craig: We understand about what happened outside SCP-9880. We want to know what happened inside the cave.
D-4585 gets visibly uncomfortable.
D-4585: Well…we went inside and it was mostly black. I could barely see a thing. Those flashlights you gave us didn't light up a thing. And then…we felt this rumbling, and I knew something was off. It was getting less dark, and I could make out this…land. It was still pretty dark, but I could make out this rocky, sandy land. It was like ash. There was this large hill up ahead, but…oh god, just thinking about it…
D-4585 begins to pale in the face, as if becoming nauseous.
Note: Dr. Craig expressed that D-4585 looked very distressed, and the doctor did not want the man to panic, and potentially lose valuable information.
Dr. Craig: Take deep breaths. Calm down. Now what did you see?
D-4585 follows the breathing instructions, and begins to calm down.
D-4585: Almost immediately, I heard a lot of whispers. The headphones didn't help at all. It was like whatever it was…was speaking in our minds. It was all words like, "Kill. Kill." Then, the other guys, they started fighting. Bad. I don't know how, but they were a lot stronger. Tossed me like nothing. The guy that threw me probably would have killed me, had the other one not snapped his neck backwards. It was so fucked up. The man's neck was snapped, and he was still trying to lift himself up to fight. But eventually, he went still. I ran like hell, but I guess I didn't focus much on where, because I tripped over, and I was on the hill. But the hill was…it was a bunch of bodies.
Dr. Craig: Bodies? And the voice, it did not cause you to kill like the others?
D-4585: No. It was annoying, like white noise. But I didn't want to kill. That said, I realized the hill were…bodies. Corpses. A mountain of dead bodies just rotting. The stench was fucking awful. And there was something on top of it, like this…this big heart. It was the only source of light in whatever fucked up place this was. A creepy-ass purple light. Had a lot of separated tubes, like it was pulled out of something, or someone. It was the size of maybe a person? It was hard to tell. But it was speaking to me.
Dr Craig: What did it say to you?
D-4585: It kept saying, "War. War. Mekhane, Yaldabaoth. War. War." It kept repeating it louder. I ran the hell out of there. I didn't think to look at the others, but I think they died. Listen…you guys should just leave this thing alone.
Dr. Craig: You have no authority on what we do. That will be all.
*End Log*
Addendum 9880-B: Staff Update
As of [REDACTED] D-4585 has been promoted to I-Class Personnel, under the codename "Banner". This is due to Banner being a rare individual that is immune to the cognitohazard of 9880. Further testing is pending.
*Level 4 Personnel Only*
Addendum 9880-C: Discovery
The following log is a formal mission report of an MTF squad that first discovered the area of SCP-9880 in the year of 19RE
*Begin Log*
MTF Squad Delta-8 "Firestorm" is an advanced MTF Squad with experience in many forms of anomalies, composed of 8 units. They were deployed roughly 2km away from the supposed location of the anomaly.
Throughout their travel in the [REDACTED] Mountain range, Delta-8 took notice of numerous rural towns that were destroyed, with rotten corpses littering the streets. In addition, each town and village had a shrine in the center, seemingly to pray to a deity.
As they continued to traverse, the amount of bodies only increased, before they reached a massive ancient city, seemingly the capital of a long-gone civilization. It was here where the stench of the dead caused several Delta-8 members to puke. However, they continued on, regarding how numerous bodies had missing limbs, and how some of the bodies were mutated, with large arms or organs.
As they got closer to where the anomaly was mapped, the squad complained of loud whispers. Before the Squad Captain could advise a retreat, a Delta-8 member punched through his chest. All video and audio feed was lost afterwards.
*End Log*
Addendum 9880-D: Exploration Log Report 2
I Class "Banner" was sent alone into SCP-9880's territory, and into the cave, with audio and and a mounted camera. However, both audio and video cut out after entering the cave. Banner was not seen again until he was ejected out of the cave roughly 4 hours later, with a massive hole in his chest. He was found to be in a comatose state, and the cave where 9880 originally resided was closed shut, replaced by non-anomalous stone. An interview log will be added, pending Banner's recovery.
