Item #: SCP-5890

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5890 is to be kept in a low-security containment room with bullet-proof walls on all sides. It is recommended to frequently have it in contact with C and D level as well as safe and some euclid SPCs; when alone for an excessive amount of time as this results in it becoming unresponsive for varying amounts of time. Occasionally C-class personnel are permitted to use it in firing practice against non-living targets.

In the event SCP-5890 becomes hostile, it is recommenced to be melted down and kept at that temperature in an airtight container. There is no known way of destroying it, as it can repair itself given the right conditions (not when it is melted), but in the worst case scenario it may be launched into space in its melted state.

Description: SCP-5890 is a sentient .50 caliber Browning Machine Gun which, despite having no eyes or ears, can see in all directions simultaneously and hear any sound without any damage to its hearing. Originally constructed in [REDACTED], United States and mounted on M10 tank destroyer serial number [REDACTED], it saw service in the Second World War until [REDACTED], 1945 when the [REDACTED] Bridge the M10 was travelling over collapsed under it, sending the entire vehicle into the Rhine River, including SCP-2004.

Due to [REDACTED] the M10 was not recovered and was discovered by civilians on August 19th, [REDACTED]. It was recovered by the German army and shipped back to the United States and put in storage at [REDACTED]. SCP-2004 was brought to the attention of the SCP Foundation when reports came of SCP-2004 making "clicking noises", which was it firing itself without any ammunition. Unlike the M10 it was mounted on SCP-2004 was not at all rusted. In 1992 SCP-2004 was retrieved by SPC personnel. Army personnel who heard the clicking were simply told that SCP-2004's (which our personnel told them was a normal .50 caliber gun) trigger was damaged and was sometimes held down and sometimes not, resulting in the strange clicking noises; no termination or memory erasing was necessary. In transport to facility [REDACTED], SPC personnel quickly found that SCP-2004 was communicating SOS in morse code by firing itself (although it had no ammunition). When it reached its facility, when given an ammunition belt it immidealty started firing of its own will, and personnel soon saw it was shooting the wall in a way to make letters, first writing "hello", and [REDACTED]. It was soon taught morse code other than "S" and "O", which allowed it to communicate clearly without the need to shoot.

SCP-5890 is capable of feeling contact with another object, temperature, and even pain when damaged. It can, to a limited extent, move around on its tripod, moving the legs, albeit very slowly. It can also spin its barrel on the tripod in 360 degrees, and elevate and depress its barrel. It can fire at will and also let others fire it, although it can jam itself if it does not want to be fired by someone else and is not able to reload itself. It cannot rust, but extremely cold temperatures can cause SCP-5890's firing mechanism to jam and extremely hot temperatures can cause it to melt like any other steal. When damaged, given enough time, SCP-5890 can repair itself, similar to SCP-682, so keeping it over the melting point for steel is the only way to keep it from repairing (like how keeping SCP-682 in acid keeps it from regenerating).

Cross-testing shows SCP-5890 may be helpful in containing other SCPs. As SCP-5890 can simultaneously look in all directions with no need to blink, it may be helpful for containing SCP-173. Furthermore SPC-173 does not attack SCP-5890 as it does not recognize it as a person, even if SCP-5890 shoots it. In addition to this SPC-5890 cannot aggravate SPC-096 when looking at it. SCP-5890 is able to aggravate SCP-682, but only if it fires; if SPC-5890 moves around in front of it SPC-682 does not seem to notice.
