first visual contact with SCP-4122 from recovered footage
Item #: SCP-4122
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4122 is to be stored in a secure locker. Personnel under security clearance 3 may not interact with SCP-4122.
Description: SCP-4122 appears to be a 2012 model █████ handheld camera recorder with an additional non-factory feature. While viewing surroundings through the camera’s viewfinder, regular inanimate objects classified as “displacements” can be seen. Sounds emitted from “displacements” can be heard through SCP-4122’s speaker. These objects do not seem to exist outside of the viewfinder since they cannot be seen or interacted with in any way, unless “brought back” (see Usage section).
Usage: Bringing SCP-4122 close to the user’s eyes and looking at a “displacement” in close proximity for 3 seconds triggers an unexplained event, bringing the “displacement” into existence. These “brought back” objects display some discrepancies with their former displaced versions seen through the viewfinder. For instance a “brought back” telephone might ring in a slightly different pitch.
deformed dog from recovered footage
In rare situations “displaced” living objects can be seen through the viewfinder. Bringing back these objects has been successful in varying degrees. In the first contact footage (see section “first contact footage”) an animate “displaced” object appearing as a mixed breed dog through SCP-4122’s viewfinder is “brought back” by ████. The resulting “brought back” object seems to be the same dog as seen through the viewfinder, but severely deformed, appearing as a displaced amalgamation of its organs, entrails, skin and extremities. The dog object dies a few seconds after being “brought back”. Remains of the object have not been found at the first contact site - ███ ██████.
One (1) previously successfully displaced living object has been recovered from the contact site and classified as SCP-4128 currently contained at site 15.
Analysis: SCP-4122 has been disassembled and each part has been studied extensively.
The hardware of SCP-4122 is identical to a regular █████ 2012 model handheld camera recorder except for having no serial numbers on any of the components.
The firmware of SCP-4122 has no differences in code from a regular █████ 2012 model handheld camera.
Files recorded with SCP-4122 are immediately corrupted and repair attempts have been unsuccessful thus far.
Connecting SCP-4122 to an external display causes the software of the external display to completely corrupt, requiring a manual firmware reinstall.
Swapping any removable part of SCP-4122 causes SCP-4122 to stop functioning.
First contact footage: Footage of the discovery of SCP-4122 was captured by a head mounted action camera worn by ████. Every observer who has watched the footage seems to give a slightly different account of the footage, particularly in regard to the displacement feature and how many times it was used by ████. Additionally, observers give several different accounts in regards to the final few minutes of the footage where SCP-4128 is first seen. Some observers declared that the ██████ in question, now known as SCP-4128 has not been “brought back” at all by ████ and instead left inside of SCP-4122. This has no merit since SCP-4128 is contained at site 15.
Additional Notes: To see first contact footage you must file an observer request.
