Item #: SCP-5910
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5910 shall be bound shut at all times with reinforced steel clamps welded into the wall adjacent from the locked entrance. SCP-5910 can be contained in a bomb-proof, reinforced humanoid containment cell. The cell is to be furnished with metal detectors that are operational at all times. Also, SCP-5910 is to be scanned with embedded X-Ray screening machines every hour to determine if it contains any instances of SCP-5910-1.
In order to soothe it, SCP-5910 is permitted the sole luxury of having classic jazz music played through the speaker in its containment cell everyday from 0900 to 2100. In the case that SCP-5910 threatens to or actually does produce instances of SCP-5910-1, it will be doused with a sleeping agent via its chamber vents. Then, and only then, are personnel allowed to unbound SCP-5910, open it, clean out its interior, and dispose of any contents found inside. Depending on the scenario, personnel should take proper precaution, wearing the protective outfits (i.e., hazmat gear, bomb suits, fire proximity suits, etc.). If such an incident as this occurs, SCP-5910’s music privileges are to be revoked for a week.
Description: In appearance, SCP-5910 is a polished, bronze-laden, stone sarcophagus. It was discovered in Cairo, Egypt on the date August 7, 2010. The six-sided coffin has a very distinct design on the lid that separates it in appearance from other Egyptian sarcophaguses. It appears to resemble Anubis, the Egyptian god of death.
The sides of the sarcophagus feature many hieroglyphic symbols that wrap completely around it. A translator was brought to the site to read the symbols. After being translated, the hieroglyphics stated the following message:
“A vessel with no captain. A story with no writer. A body with no soul. The first to open shall never leave. This one shall become a creator of things and a giver of gifts. This one can only contain such things, but never shall grasp them.”
Professor Charles Barleywood, the key leader of the expedition that uncovered this artifact, felt a passionate desire to open the lid of the sarcophagus, going against protocol and the translator’s warning. Upon prying the lid open with a crowbar, it was discovered that the sarcophagus was completely void of human remains. In fact, it appeared that there was no evidence that it was ever for its intended purpose.
However, almost immediately after being opened, an invisible, supernatural force pulled Professor Barleywood into the sarcophagus, and the lid closed upon him. When the lid was once more opened, it was found to be completely empty, just as it had been before.
It was at this time that SCP officers were called in after receiving reports of a floating sarcophagus terrorizing a local dig site. Apparently, SCP-5910 had absorbed the consciousness of Professor Barleywood, who now acted as the “brain” of the floating, moving coffin.
After being brought into custody, experiments with SCP-5910 showed that it truly was a fully aware, sentient being inhabiting an inanimate object by paranormal forces. SCP-5910 itself, capable of speaking as well, explained that it believed it had had its soul permanently tethered to the coffin. SCP-5910 demonstrated that it could not only move via hovering and see visually through the lid’s engraved Anubis eyes (which glowed red when SCP-5910 was awake), but also materialize nearly any items (labeled as SCP-5910-01) small enough to fit within the confines of its sarcophagus body, simply by the consciousness of SCP-5910 imagining such items.
Addendum 5910-01: Researchers have been attempting to utilize SCP-5910 for its usefulness in producing items seemingly out of nothing. However, upon realizing that it would be contained at Site-17 indefinitely, SCP-5190 became hostile and uncooperative, so far as to attempt to materialize and release live grenades in retaliation against Foundation staff members. The grenades still had their pins in them and did not explode, acting as evidence that SCP-5190 was perhaps limited in its imagination. SCP-5910 is now being kept in confinement under the given special containment procedures indefinitely and is not to be used for experimentation or utilization until further orders are given.
