Item #: SCP-5712

Class: Euclid

Special containment procedures:

SCP-5712 must be kept within immediate reach of a nuclear warhead capable of obliterating the entire complex. Any lunar spacecraft or probe flying in a 100 km radius must be destroyed by lunar operatives present on site constantly. No living being can be allowed to approach SCP-5712 further than 10 meters away from it. Any infected personnel, no matter the class or clearance, must be immediately terminated, and the body must be secured to the lunar soil using proprietary on-site rods to prevent any movement of the carcass.
Description:

SCP-5712 is a giant lunar complex secretly constructed in the year 197█ by the government of the now non-existent Soviet Union. It is about ███ meters long and ██ meters wide, and its highest point is ███ meters tall. The technology inside is very intact, along with the rather crude hydroponics bays and research equipment. The base itself has suffered large hull breaches caused by SCP-5712-1 and small asteroids. The reserves of water and food are halfway used, and the facility's nuclear reactor is still expected to work for at least █ years. All non-Foundation personnel inside are dead, suffering massive ███████ trauma caused by SCP-5712-1's spores.

Video equipment and logs retrieved by Foundation probes show that the base functioned normally until ████, when an unknown organism has been conceived in the onboard laboratory. The Foundation is still studying how the organism came to be, and the known information is as follows:

1. The organism was called длинные ноги by the Soviet scientists, meaning long legs in english.
2. The organism can move upward of 40 km/h.
3. It reproduces using spores, which have been seen to cover ██ % of Zvezda's hull, as well as at least █ meters of Moon soil around Zvezda.
4. The spores are highly flammable, but can stay anaerobic until a host is found.
5. Adult specimen are █ meters tall, and have a green colour.

The foundation named the organism SCP-5712-1, and has been studying it ever since.
Its behaviour is very animalistic, and the organism hasn't been seen in the unoxygenated areas of the compound, so it is believed to be aerobic in nature, however we can't confirm this yet. It seems to have at least a basic sentience though, as it uses the oxygen emmitors of the base to spread its spores.

Any human being or animal that comes in contact with the spores (Known from now on as SCP-5712-2) is considered an immediate danger to the safety of all lunar personnel, and must be terminated immediately.
The reason from this is that the spores break down into microscopic particles containing a virus. This virus (Known from now on as SCP-5712-3) changes the DNA of skin cells, and causes them to mutate. This mutation produces miniature, ungrown SCP-5712-1 instead of the subject's skin cells. The organism mimics the subject's skin, and is thus unspottable for the first few days. When three layers of complete SCP-5712-1 grow, they shed instantly, and the creatures spring to life, ███████ the host. The foundation hasn't documented the process firsthand, so we don't have an acute understanding of the mechanism. Dr. █████ and his team will be implanting ██ class D personnel with the spores, but due to funding limitations can't yet do so.
Due to barely functional life support, there are estimated to be 400 living SCP-5712-1 all around the compound, mainly in the oxygen production zone and Hydroponics bays. Due to their natural camouflage inside the green interior of Zvezda we only have a few photographs available, the aquisition of which caused the destruction of the drone.

SCP-5712 and the organisms within must be kept in check until sufficient funding is received.
