Automatic Trial Generator

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is contained in its original discovered location due to its anomalous nature. Four guards are to be stationed at ███████ Hotel in ████, Michigan, where SCP-XXXX is located. Two unarmed guards are to be present on the ground floor of the hotel at all times in order to divert or distract patrons or visitors away from the top floor, where SCP-XXXX is located. Two armed guards are to be present on the top floor at all times, one stationed at the elevator door and one at the entrance to SCP-XXXX. Hotel staff (all positions held by SCP personnel) are to deny all requests from the public to access the top floor, and assist in diversion techniques when necessary. In the event of a member of the public accessing the top floor, they will be escorted off the premises by guards under the guise of an ongoing crime scene investigation, and further barred from entering the building.

Currently, 1 D-class personnel is allotted to be used for testing purposes of SCP-XXXX per day. If the trial in progress requires multiple D-class personnel, testing personnel are required to wait the number of days needed to accumulate the needed amount of D-class. Due to uncertainty of what will happen upon completing all trials, and Incident-██ regarding SCP-███, use of SCPs as personnel for "Impossible trials" is forbidden until further notice.

Due to the contained and self-cleaning nature of SCP-XXXX, no procedures regarding the inside of SCP-XXXX are necessary, though the outside door leading to SCP-XXXX is to be inspected for maintenance as often as possible.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a hotel room on the top floor of ███████ Hotel in ████, Michigan. Labeled as "Room 713" on an otherwise non-anomalous floor, SCP-XXXX is a 20 x 20 x 10 feet chamber constructed of concrete walls and floors, with a thin carpet laid upon the floor. At the north end of the chamber an electronic sign is fixed to the wall which can be manually cycled with a button on the side of the sign through 4 set messages, but a new message cannot be set, nor can messages be deleted. These messages are:

Next Trial in xx:xx:xx (Hours/Minutes/Seconds, displaying a maximum of 24 hours at any time.)

Trial in Progress
xx:xx:xx (Hours/Minutes/Seconds, displaying a maximum of 5 hours at any time.)

Trial Failed

Trial Passed

When the "Next Trial" timer reaches 00:00:00, the sign will display a blinking red light in its bottom left corner, indicating that the room is either occupied, or being viewed remotely. When all occupants leave SCP-XXXX, the room's door is closed, and remote viewing is ceased, the interior of SCP-XXXX will undergo an instantaneous transformation into a seemingly random "Trial" out of as of now discovered, 144 different trials.

Upon re-entry of the room, the electronic sign will now read "Trial in Progress" and can no longer be manually changed. Typically, only 1 sentient entity is permitted in the test chamber unless the trial's instructions specify otherwise, which upon entering will trigger the room's door to close. Attempting to have more sentient entities enter the room than is designated during a trial, or re-opening the door for any reason, will result in a "Trial Failed" message, and reset the 24 hour timer for the next trial. Remote viewing of a trial in progress is possible, but the test subject must enter with this equipment, and recover it after the trial, as it will be lost upon the room's next transformation otherwise.

The dimensions of the room appear unchanged after a transformation but the color of the walls and carpet will have changed depending on the current trial. Any matter not pertaining to a trial left in the room before a transformation will be gone upon the next transformation. If matter is left in a "Failed Trial" upon reset, this matter can be recovered when the trial next appears. However, if left in a completed trial, it is seemingly lost. It is unknown where this matter is transported, or if it defies our knowledge of conservation of matter.

Certain objects such as desks, lanterns, exercise equipment, weapons, and utensils will now be present in the room depending on the trial, with the exception of a consistent index card in the center of the room which provides simple instructions for the current trial. Trials range from simple to challenging tasks, vague riddles, as well as trials that are impossible for all known non-anomalous lifeforms (See Trial 34 and 108). Trials can at times suggest strong violence or perversion, including self-harm.

It is unknown how this transformation occurs, as all observation and inspection of the room from the outside during a transformation reveals no anomalous happenings, and the room itself is indestructible (see ████████ Report) from both the inside and outside, despite being built from seemingly normal concrete.

All trials thus far have had a 5 hour time limit, with subjects free to open the door and leave at any time (this fails the trial). There has yet to be any noticeable reward or effect for completing a trial successfully, or failing one, other than the reset of the timer until the next trial. No trials that have been "completed" have yet to make a 2nd appearance. Trials that have been "failed" have appeared multiple times in no discernible pattern.
