SCP-XXXX upon discovery.

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a medium capacity locker at Site-XX. Operation of SCP-XXXX is prohibited unless instructed by a Level 3 personnel assigned to the item. SCP-XXXX should not be connected to a power supply unless the device is undergoing testing procedures.

Description: SCP-XXXX is an unbranded MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) machine. Despite appearances, all electronic and mechanical features of SCP-XXXX are functional. When the internal electromagnets activate, SCP-XXXX maintains an approx. ~8.4 tesla magnetic field, a value abnormally high for a device of this size and quality. Most of the buttons and options on the exterior of the machine are unmarked. Due to the risk of compromising SCP-XXXX's ability to operate, dismantling SCP-XXXX is strictly prohibited for the time being.

Patients who undergo standard imaging procedures with SCP-XXXX enter a state of shock within ~2 minutes of the process. Afterwards, the patients report great feelings of trauma, fear, and impending doom. This is also characterized by constant panic attacks, cases of paralyzation, and lack of motivation among different individuals. These side-effects do not wear off alone. Use of Class B/C amnestics have proven to subside these effects, at the cost of losing memory of the experience.

Instead of traditional images, SCP-XXXX outputs a video feed by unknown means. These videos display dire situations with the patient as the main subject. It is speculated that the viewport is the perspective of the subject's eyes. These sequences last as long as SCP-XXXX's base cycle of operation, 90 minutes. The environments in the sequences change from subject to subject, often basing itself around these common traits:

  • The subject's greatest fear.
  • Past trauma that the subject has endured.
  • Death by blunt force, crushing, pulling, falling, etc.
  • Loud, mechanical grinding noises. (Very similar to the sound of SCP-XXXX during operation.)

After the moment of death and/or climax in the sequence, the patient regains a nominal level of consciousness with the procedure's finalization. Interviews with patients after the procedure report that the sequences "feel real, just like being awake." Due to the argued ethics of causing subjects to 're-live' trauma, as well as SCP-XXXX's cognitohazardous properties, Site-XX is currently waiting on confirmation for the continuation of testing.
