"Trial by Isolation"-Draft 0.8

Item #: SCP-XXX

Object class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: Mobile Task Force Theta-4 (Street Sweepers) are to monitor high population areas particularly cities, where the effects of SCP-XXX-2 will be rapidly noticed, to quickly locate late stage instances of SCP-XXX-1 for immediate containment. Any information about SCP-XXX-1 instances uploaded to the internet are to be taken down and Class-B amnestics administered to the civilian/s involved with uploading said information. Should the effects of SCP-XXX-2 become noticed by mainstream media, a story about a chemical attack and sabotage by a terrorist organisation is to be used as a cover-up, and any civilians directly exposed to SCP-XXX-2 are to be given Class-B amnestics.

Once any SCP-XXX-1 instances are located, contact is to be made with them via messages written with pen and paper and delivered to SCP-XXX-1 by aerial drops. The messages should direct it towards the closest SCP-XXX containment facility.

If SCP-XXX-1 does not cooperate1, canisters containing incapacitating agents that will render SCP-XXX-1 unconscious but otherwise unharmed are to be fired from QLZ-87 grenade launchers by a containment team to safely incapacitate SCP-XXX-1 before bringing them to a SCP-XXX containment facility.

SCP-XXX containment facilities are to be made in isolated locations far from any form of human settlement and outfitted with a crank-operated elliptical rail with a cart for further communicating and resupplying SCP-XXX-1 instances.

All equipment in a SCP-XXX containment facility are to be powered non-electronically and are to be restocked with supplies bi-weekly, including basic hygiene equipment, clothing, clean food and water, and other items requested from SCP-XXX-1 instances approved by Site-██ command.

Once inside a SCP-XXX containment facility, all SCP-XXX-1 instances are to be held indefinitely or until SCP-XXX removes their anomalous properties. If this occurs they are to be interviewed before being given amnestics appropriate for the time spent affected by SCP-XXX and released.

Description: SCP-XXX is a memetic hazard that affects an individual (hereby referred to as SCP-XXX-1) from an urban setting and over the course of a year gradually restricts their access to technology and human interaction. Upon initial exposure, SCP-XXX-1 will occasionally experience issues whenever they try to use electronically powered technology and online social media despite no apparent problem with the devices that SCP-XXX is using, if any. Issues will typically include slow internet speeds, shortages of power, user interface unresponsiveness and internal malfunctions,2 There can be more than one SCP-XXX-1 instances at any given time.

From the first month of being chosen, SCP-XXX-1 will experience technical issues more often and will now have slightly more difficulty meeting with individuals known to SCP-XXX-1, with increased chance of inconveniences, such as bad weather, occurring to reduce the chances of SCP-XXX-1 meeting with their person of interest.

The effects of SCP-XXX on SCP-XXX-1 do not increase again until the sixth month, where SCP-XXX-1 will begin to periodically emit SCP-XXX-2.

SCP-XXX-2 is a phenomenon in which all living human individuals within 20 meters of SCP-XXX-1 spontaneously vanish for the duration that SCP-XXX-1 is conscious and within range.

The duration and occurrence of SCP-XXX-2 will manifest weekly, and for 5 to 10 minutes of time for the start of the sixth month but drastically increases as time continues, eventually becoming permanent and growing to an area of 100 metres by the end year. At this time all electronic technology will also cease functioning within SCP-XXX-2.

Once in this stage SCP-XXX-3, a currently unidentified entity will sometimes attempt to communicate with SCP-XXX-1 by manipulating the environment around SCP-XXX-1, but due to the nature of SCP-XXX-3's messages it is impossible to fully understand. Each attempted communication by SCP-XXX-3 has a high chance of causing various mental issues within SCP-XXX-1 including depression, insomnia, anxiety and schizophrenia.

Should two instances of SCP-XXX-1 meet they will be unable to interact with each other by any means. If SCP-XXX-1 instance alters the environment, such as drawing on a surface, the change will not be experienced by any other instances. Any food consumed by a SCP-XXX-1 instance will appear uneaten by other instances, who can consume the same food without issue.

Discovery: SCP-XXX was discovered during a power outage in █████, North America, where multiple Foundation personnel in the city at the time did not give a standard sitrep within 2 hours of the outage. A satellite scan of the area revealed an unidentified humanoid within the last known location of the missing Foundation personnel, which was now known to be almost completely absent of human life.

Extensive testing was then performed with a total of ██ D-Class and a myriad of anomalous detection equipment. Once the humanoid was identified as missing person ████████, and had its anomalous properties fully documented, it was safely incapacitated and transported to a newly constructed SCP-XXX containment facility.

After the SCP-XXX-1 instance was rendered unconscious, the missing Foundation personnel, civilians and expended D-Class returned unharmed, with no apparent knowledge of their disappearance.

Addendum XXX-1: Of the ███ SCP-XXX-1 instances safely contained only one has since had its anomalous properties removed by SCP-XXX-3. The former SCP-XXX-1 instance, named ██████, was interviewed before being administered class G amnesics and taken back to her hometown in ███████, Australia. An audio transcript of the interview's contents is documented in the sub-addendum below.
