SCP-XXXX

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is kept in a standard Safe-class storage locker in the █-Wing of Site-██. Testing is to be conducted at the discrepancy of any on-site personnel of clearance level 3 or higher. After use, it is to be returned to its designated location and refilled with ink as needed. Failure to do so will result in disciplinary actions.

Description: SCP-XXXX appears to be a standard Marikiaro-brand Red Trentaremi fountain pen, measuring at 11 cm long and 0.89 cm wide. Its anomalous properties are exhibited whenever it is actively used to write an answer to any verbal, textual, or image-based prompt. If no prompts are given to users of SCP-XXXX, it will not exhibit any anomalous properties. Answers to questions and other visual stimuli written by SCP-XXXX will always display something different to what the writer intended to put down. The writer seems to be completely oblivious to this process, in a manner similar to that of SCP-443. All answers created by SCP-XXXX are always grammatically correct and use a fairly wide range of vocabulary, regardless of the IQ of the writer, however the handwriting of literature composed by it does not differ from the appearance of the user's.

SCP-XXXX will always answer prompts and questions in its own words, alluding to possible sentience. It will answer differently to repeated prompts (unless it is inherently impossible to answer differently), on numerous cases has been observed to 'think' on particularly long/difficult answers, shown by the user hovering it above the paper for an indeterminate amount of time, and has been observed to write down 'I don't know', or other phrases along those lines. The length of the response written by SCP-XXXX is always dependent on direct requests for x amount of sentences/paragraphs/words, the complexity of the question or image, and the length of the prompt.

The ink in SCP-XXXX is non-anomalous, and can be refilled with any color of ink without undermining its effects or any significant consequence, even when mixing two different inks together. The individual parts of the pen do not exhibit extranormal properties when disassembled, save for the writing mechanism, which still shows its effects when used to answer a prompt.

Below is a log from a series of tests conducted at the discretion of Dr. ████, a level 4 researcher, after SCP-XXXX's initial acquisition.

Document A | XXXX Test Log:

Foreword: SCP-XXXX will be subjected to a variety of tests to determine what kind of 'answers' it produces under different circumstances.

Test XXXX-a:

Writer: Dr. ████

Prompt/Question: None. Writing on a blank sheet of paper.

Output: "This is a test to determine SCP-XXXX's effects when unprompted."

Notes: It seems like it will only show its anomalous properties whenever it is asked a question or given a prompt. - Dr. ████

Test XXXX-b:

Writer: Dr. ████

Prompt/Question: "What are you?"

Output: "I am a pen."

Notes: It will only ever refer to itself as a pen. Further testing has proved that it will never respond with anything else when asked similar questions, such as 'what is your name' and 'what do you consider yourself'. These tests have been expunged from the document due to redundancy. -Dr. ████

Test XXXX-e:

Writer: Dr. ████

Prompt/Question: "What is your favorite color?"

Output: "While I may appear red, I prefer the color green."

Test XXXX-f:

Writer: Dr. ██████

Prompt/Question: "What is 87 + 44?"

Output: "131"

Notes: It at least knows basic math… I wonder if it can do anything more complex?

Test XXXX-f:

Writer: Dr. ██████

Prompt/Question: "What is the factored form of x2+7x+10?"

Output: The pen 'thought' for approximately seven (7) seconds, before rewriting the equation and solving using the Cross method. It then proceeded to write down "(x - 2)(x - 5)", the correct factored form of the problem.

Test XXXX-g:

Writer: D-09281

Notes: D-09281 is illiterate.

Prompt/Question: "What is the escape velocity of an object leaving Earth?"

Output: After several minutes of ordering D-09281 to answer the question, subject finally complied after being threatened with termination. He proceeded to write down "25,020 mph" in very large and sloppy handwriting. Subject seemed surprised to learn that he wrote down the correct answer.
