Item #: SCP-XXXX - The Black Painting
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a standard gallery frame with closable curtains in room 204 of site 5. Room 204 is to only be accessed for testing purposes with authorisation from level 2 personnel.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a 1 metre by 1 metre canvas painted - upon first glance - entirely black. Upon closer inspection SCP-XXXX has multiple layers of various different black paints creating a highly detailed picture of a modern style city or town - see Addendum XXXX-01. Samples taken from SCP-XXXX show 15 [fifteen] different paint types with 6 [six] different finishes to create the image. Artist inspections of SCP-XXXX note that SCP-XXXX is the most highly detailed image they have ever seen suggesting that most of the painting had to have been painted with a 20/0 size brush or smaller.
SCP-XXXX was brought to SCP Foundation's attention after a celebrity art collector killed his sister and burned down his mansion, stating the Black Painting made him do it - see Addendum XXXX-02.
SCP-XXXX changes it's features slightly between each viewing, ensuring that the viewer will always have something new to look at. Viewers of SCP-XXXX develop a dependency to SCP-XXXX causing them to view SCP-XXXX as often as they can, often forgoing eating, drinking, sleeping or cleaning themselves, referred to as SCP-XXXX-A. SCP-XXXX-A will note that SCP-XXXX always has something new to look at, almost as if SCP-XXXX is being changed or added to between viewings.
After prolonged viewings of SCP-XXXX, SCP-XXXX-A will note familiar faces and settings and become enraged that their painting has been defiled. SCP-XXXX-A will then hunt down the familiar face within SCP-XXXX, referred to as SCP-XXXX-B, and kill them. SCP-XXXX-A will then return to view SCP-XXXX to inspect the scene where they saw SCP-XXXX-B and will see the image has changed to show a police crime scene.
SCP-XXXX-A will be overcome with guilt and fear as they notice they can't remember the period of time between seeing SCP-XXXX-B, killing them and returning to SCP-XXXX. SCP-XXXX will attempt to destroy SCP-XXXX, usually by means of burning it and the building SCP-XXXX resides in before handing themselves over to the police. SCP-XXXX will survive the fire while the rest of the building and even the frame SCP-XXXX resides in is destroyed.
Addendum:
XXXX-01: SCP-XXXX seems to change the way it looks for different viewers, depending on where they grew up. If the viewer lived in a large city, SCP-XXXX will look like a large city, filled with cars and people going about their daily lives. If the viewer grew up in a town then the buildings will be that of a town, with smaller houses and fewer people.
XXXX-02: Mr [REDACTED] of [REDACTED] bought SCP-XXXX in an art gallery for a vastly discounted price after seeing how well crafted SCP-XXXX was. [REDACTED] brought SCP-XXXX home and began to sell tickets to view SCP-XXXX to neighbours. Word spread quickly making multiple instances of SCP-XXXX-A's, some even taking out loans so that they could purchase more tickets to view SCP-XXXX, resulting in Mr [REDACTED] quickly becoming a multimillionaire.
After several break in attempts and death threats, Mr [REDACTED] moved into a mansion bought with the money made from ticket sales. Mr [REDACTED] then cut all contact with friends and family and was not seen for 3 [three] months. Mr [REDACTED] was then seen entering his sisters house with a knife where he then stabbed her 108 [one hundred and eight] times in the face and chest, killing her.
Several hours later Mr [REDACTED]'s house was bought to the ground and when he was questioned by the police he said that SCP-XXXX made him do it by showing him killing his sister.
