Site 23 SCP-049 interview

The following is Audio from a small interview recorded on November 11th at 2:46 AM at site 23#. The interview is between SCP-049 and Doctor Andrew Espian.

Begin log:

Dr. Espian: “Hello SCP-049, Are your studies coming along well since we last spoke?”

SCP-049: “Quite. The subjects that you have given me were very informative. I am making great progress doctor.”

Dr. Espian: “Good to hear, now we've talked about the Pestilence before and it’s clear the people at the facility still have close to no idea what it physically is, so to let us understand more can you please explain to us what is in great detail?”

SCP-049: “Doctor I've tried to make you and others aware all this time. You don’t see the big picture, you don’t look for something more. You ask me if it’s physical-”

(Dr. Espian cuts off SCP-049)

Dr. Espian: “so there are no physical effects?”

SCP-049: “not always… (SCP-049 readjusts in his seat and looks down and circles the table with his finger) in fact, many people hide it from everyone else, they suppress it until they are alone which is truly killing them faster. It can start off small and build over time.”

Dr. Espian: “if-if there’s not always physical effects then how do you sense it?”

SCP-049: “despite it having no effects it radiates from every pore, every nook, and cranny. A seeping gas constantly pouring from the victim. Even you without my experienced vision can see glimpses of it, their slumped faces and dead eyes. Their infected minds suffering and writhing in their own actions. A life not worth living, the Pestilence (SCP-049 leans forward in his chair) is a dying person that is forced to continue living.”

(Doctor Espian wipes the sweat off his face and states under his breath)

“this is going nowhere”

Dr. Espian: “ok we need more information, this is too general…”

SCP-049: “you hear me not doctor? What I tell you is as specific as I can get. I will say this place and most people here are without the pestilence. It seems your director is doing good”

Dr. Espian: “clearly we are no closer to getting the intended goal, I can’t even do anything right not even get a simple answer from you. Security please take him back to his chamber, I'll figure out another way to tell Walter I've failed again…”

before security can get into SCP-049s side SCP-049, says:

“Strange…”

“Doctor, are you feeling alright?”

End log

After the interview, SCP-049 was taken back to his containment chamber and Dr. Espian went on to release the logs to Jade. Dr. Espian reportedly seemed down and “not the same” always after that point. On February first Dr. Espian was killed by SCP-049 and turned into SCP-049-2. When questioned about SCP-049 explained that Dr. Espian had gained the pestilence.
