Special containment procedures:
SCP-5978-ALPHA is to be confined to a standard humanoid containment cell. It’s containment cell is approximately 7 meters in length and 4 meters in width.The 10 meters surrounding the cell are to be lit up brightly, as to maintain security. The cell itself however is to be pitch black, as to be habitable by SCP-5978. The cell is to be stored at humanoid containment site 62.
Description:
SCP-5978-ALPHA is a shadow with a height of 1.5 metres and features that vaguely resemble a humanoid figure. SCP-5978-ALPHA is Asexual, and as of now, has an unknown amount of offspring, known as SCP-5978-A. Darkness is necessary for the survival of SCP-5978 as it is sensitive to direct light. Current known specimens are aggressive to most forms of life, though testing has shown that they prefer a diet of household pets to humans. This food however seems to show no signs of benefiting 5978-A. Researchers have also found that the only contained specimen of SCP-5978 appears to be some kind of mother (hereafter referred to as SCP-5978-ALPHA). All food eaten by any SCP-5978-A instance goes to 5978-ALPHA as it is the only instance capable of reproduction. Studies have shown that SCP-5978-ALPHA has no apparent way of controlling the baby’s race. There are 5 types currently in the custody of the foundation and each race is triggered by a different diet. And when referring to all of the different breeds they are called SCP-5978- A.
SCP-5978 was found in a dark basement under a house in London in 17 July 1982, and as of yet, no offspring of SCP-5978-ALPHA have been contained and SCP-5978-1 still feed and give the food back to the mother, who is apparently incapable of fast movements and passive.
Incident 01:
SCP-5978-1 was attacking personnel by dragging them into a dimension of shadows designated SCP-5978-PRIME. Agent green was quoted as saying: “they dragged us through the portal and devoured our agents, we kept shooting but they just kept coming.” Scientists reviewing the video footage hypothesise that SCP-5978-PRIME was what allowed them to move to other shadows.
Addendum 5978-1:
After extensive experimentation, a termination solution for 5978 has been discovered. SCP-5978 can be destroyed by light within a week of birth. In addition all SCP-5978 with the exception of SCP-5978-ALPHA can be terminated by full bodily submersion in water.
