Procedure: SCP-5XXX is to be stored inside Area-179's Anomolous Collections Library.. Access of SCP-5XXX requires permission of the researcher assigned to Project-5XXX-Prompt. Interaction with SCP-5XXX is to be performed at the researcher's discretion, and all interaction is to be recorded.
Description: SCP-5XXX is an unmarked book. The publication date listed on the inside states the year of its creation at the year 1963, and no other evidence collected about the book contradicts this date.
SCP-5XXX describes the reader of the book from the view of an invisible entity, invariably positioned within a very close proximity to the reader. The entity typically describes facts about the reader known only to the reader, and often describes the reader as a future meal of the entity.
Notably, turning the pages of the book has no effect on the content of the book unless the two pages presented are read to completion. Attempting to skim or speedread through the content of the two pages presented has mixed results, as presentation of new reading material only seems to be predicated on reading comprehension. Narration of the book does not appear to change whether the text is changed, as the book only seems to 'sense' the reader of the book and not anyone within the immediate vicinity. However, multiple participants reading at the same time produces a change in the content of the text, as the entity presented within the text will begin to describe the multiple readers as a group.
Reading of SCP-5XXX is reported to evoke feelings of dread and fear in the reader, although tests as to whether these feelings are due to reading of the material or the actual content thereof remain inconclusive.
Performance of Project-5XXX-Prompt has concluded that no such entity as the one described has any meaningful effect on reality, thus it is not to be classified as a separate entity.
