SCP-4362 - The Black Amaryllis

Item #: SCP-4362

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4362 must be kept in a 4m x 4m x 4m airtight, impenetrable steel cube. A watering mechanism must be attached to roof of the steel cube at all times and SCP-4362-1 must be watered with distilled water two (2) times per day. A constant ray of UV light must also be shone on SCP-4362-1 at all times.

In the event of a blackout, backup generators will be switched on to power the lights and watering mechanism. If the latter does not regain power, personnel will be required to enter the containment area and water the plant at the required times until power is regained. If the UV lights don't regain power for more than five (5) days then it's containment area must be locked down and its surrounding are evacuated.

In the event of a containment breach all personnel must be evacuated and are surrounding must be locked down. When entering the containment area a researcher must be wearing a hazmat suit and must be accompanied by a minimum of two (2) armed guards. After testing all personnel must be quarantined for thirty six hours and decontaminated.

Description: SCP-4362-1 is a black plant that closely resembles an Amaryllis. It does not require oxygen as it does not undergo photosynthesis but it had been proven to require both water and UV light. The process it uses to remain alive is so far unknown.

In the soil beneath the plant there resides SCP-4362-2. SCP-4362-2 is a black worm that is 5 foot long and 16cm thick that buries itself inside the soil. Studies conclude that unknown cells inside SCP-4362-1 emit ultraviolet light which is though to keep SCP-4362-2 at bay. Closer studies have also shown that SCP-4362-2 contains the properties necessary for self-replication bust is unable to activate them due to the ultraviolet waves emitted by SCP-4362-1. If SCP-4362-1 were to die then SCP-4362-2 would be released at full power, potentially leading to an NK-class end-of-the-world scenario.

When approached by Subject, it [DATA EXPUNGED]. Once it was inside of the Subject's throat it ensued a series of black cracks to form on Subject's body and Subject's eyes turned a deep black. Black smoke began to emerge from Subject's mouth. When introduced to another human, Subject began to [REDACTED]. SCP-4362-2 then emerged from Subject's throat and [DATA EXPUNGED]. After entering Subject-2's throat it caused the same effects that had appeared on Subject-1. After being left alone for thirty minutes Subject-2 walked back to SCP-4362-1 and [DATA EXPUNGED]. Subject-2 then began vomiting an unknown black substance before SCP-4362-2 exited Subject-2's throat and re-buried itself in the soil of SCP-4362-1. After three hours since depositing SCP-4362-2 into Subject-2's throat, Subject-1 began to shake violently. Subject-1 then fell to the ground and continued to lie still for twenty minutes. Subject-1 then awoke and [REDACTED]. Subject-1 then began to vomit it's own blood, tissues and organs until nothing was left inside of it. This process took five minutes. Upon closer inspection it was revealed that both Subject-1's and Subject 2's skeletons had been completely disintegrated. The ashes and black substance secreted by Subject-2 were collected for further analysis.
