Special Containment Procedures : SCP-3828 is to be kept within two pressure sealed containers in a room that can be pressure sealed in the event of a breach. Both containers must contain an inert gas at a pressure of no more than 0.25 atm. Each container must contain a carbon dioxide detector, and an air pressure monitor. The inner container, which will be directly containing SCP-3828, must contain a thermal sensor.
If carbon dioxide is detected in either container, air pressure rises above 0.25 atm in either container, or a temperature greater than that of the surrounding room is detected in the inner container, all present personnel must immediately put on hazmat suits and the room must immediately be pressure sealed until SCP-3828 can be properly contained again. All air in containing room must be filtered of any traces of SCP-3828-1 following a breach. Any personnel believed to be under the influence of SCP-3828-1 are to be isolated for no less than three (3) times the length of time they were exposed to SCP-3828-1
Description : SCP-3828 is a pink, scentless candle made from standard paraffin wax and cotton. SCP-3828 is fifteen (15) centimeters tall and eight (8) centimeters in diameter. SCP-3828 cannot be extinguished by any means but suffocation, and unless deprived of oxygen will continue to burn without consuming the wick or wax. The flame of SCP-3828 will not harm any SCP-3828-2.
Fumes from SCP-3828, referred to as SCP-3828-1, affect the ability to reason in both humans and non-humans who smell it, with the effects becoming stronger over time. SCP-3828-1 appears as normal candle smoke, but will not cause harm to subjects when present in high volumes.
Subjects exposed to SCP-3828-1 for short amounts of time, between ten (10) seconds and two (2) minutes depending on the subject's size and metabolism, begin to act in SCP-3828's interest, subjects having minor obsession with SCP-3828 and questioning the need for its containment. After one (1) to three (3) hours of constant exposure, again depending on subject's size and metabolism, subjects begin actively arguing for the release of SCP-3828, begin trying to convince others to smell the fumes as well, and in some cases, subjects begin to worship SCP-3828. After an extended period of exposure, between twelve (12) and twenty (20) hours subjects will claim to speak for SCP-3828, referring to themselves as "The Speaker", and SCP-3828 as "The Exalted". Subjects under this degree of influence are referred to as SCP-3828-2. In cases of where multiple subjects are under the influence of SCP-3828-1 simultaneously, only one will become a SCP-3828-2. It is unknown if there is a method to distinguish which subject will become a SCP-3828-2 The subject that becomes a SCP-3828-2 will be the healthiest subject available, and a subject will cease to be a SCP-3828-2 if a better option becomes available <Addendum - See Test Log 3828-03>
Initially, SCP-3828-2 and all subjects exposed to SCP-3828-1 long enough to become a SCP-3828-2 will hold SCP-3828 in veneration, and if subjects are a member of any theistic religion prior to exposure to SCP-3828-1 they will project those beliefs onto SCP-3828. After being SCP-3828-2 for approximately one (1) day, all subjects begin to act and speak similarly, it is hypothesized that [REDACTED]. See interview logs at end of document.
It should be noted, that aside from the veneration of SCP-3828, exposure to SCP-3828-1 does not cause any major personality change until the subject becomes a SCP-3828-2 for an extended period of time.
After SCP-3828 has been removed, the influence over each subjects will stay for approximately twice as long as they were exposed to SCP-3828-1, with the effects lessening over time.
SCP-3828 was recovered from the town of ██████ in Iowa, United States of America. SCP-3828 was discovered when two travelers, after passing through ██████ reported to the police in the nearby town of ██████████ that the entire town of ██████ had become "Cult-like". ██████████ sent two officers to ██████, both of which lost contact soon after entering. Upon the arrival of Foundation personnel, it was found that the entire populace of ██████ had reformed into a religious hierarchy, and had changed the name of their town to Babylon. Foundation personnel were met with resistance as they moved to the center of ██████, the populace becoming increasingly violent as the team approached the town hall. Upon entering the town hall, the Foundation personnel found █████████ █████ (Referred to as SCP-3828-2A), a 20 year old woman, with SCP-3828 in front of her. When spoken to, SCP-3828-2A referred to herself as "The Speaker" and when asked if she was the mayor of ██████, she laughed and indicated towards SCP-3828, saying "Of course not. The Exalted is our leader". After the removal of SCP-3828 and the administration of class C amnesiacs to all members of the town, all influence from SCP-3828-1 faded over the course of four (4) months, with SCP-3828-2A remaining under the influence the longest.

Subject : D-2988
Time : 06-09-20██, 8:00 AM
Test : Place SCP-3828 in an airtight room with one (1) subject, D-2988 for an extended period of time
Results : During the test, D-2988 became a SCP-3828-2, referred to as SCP-3828-2B. See Log 3828-1
Test Number : 2
Subjects : D-3925, D-1194, and D-2988
Time : 19-09-20██, 9:00 AM
Test : Place SCP-3828 in an airtight room with three (3) subjects; D-3925 (male, seventy three (73) in mediocre health, low metabolism), D-1194 (male, twenty nine (29) in good health, average metabolism), and D-2988 (female, twenty four (24) in poor health, high metabolism). All for an extended period of time.
Results : Only one subject, D-1193, became a SCP-3828-2 (Considered SCP-3828-2C). It is hypothesized that SCP-3828 picked D-1193 as he was both a young adult and in good health despite coming under the effects of SCP-3828-1 slower than D-2988. All three D class personnel became distressed upon removal of SCP-3828 and were neutralized and placed in isolation for four (4) days.
Notes : During the later stages of the test, D-2988 became distressed upon not being made the SCP-3828-2. It is recommended subjects are not used in more than one trial with SCP-3828.

Subjects : D-6854 and D-4729
Time : 02-10-20██, 3:00 PM
Test : Place SCP-3828 in an airtight room with two (2) subjects, first D-6854 (male, sixty two (62) in mediocre health) until he becomes a SCP-3828-2, then D-4729 (female, twenty four (24) in good health).
Results : After D-4729 had been exposed to SCP-3828-1 long enough to become a SCP-3828-2, D-6854 (SCP-3828-2D) handed SCP-3828 to D-4729. Upon questioning by Dr.█████, D-4729 confirmed she had become a SCP-3828-2 (SCP-3828-2E), and D-6854 had ceased to be a SCP-3828-2. It is clear that the SCP-3828-2 is chosen by health, and can change if a better option becomes available. See Log 3828-2

Subject : One (1) chimpanzee
Time : 14-10-20██, 1:00 PM
Test : Place SCP-3828 In an airtight room with one (1) chimpanzee to test whether the effects of SCP-3828-1 only affect human subjects.
Results : The chimpanzee acted similar to a human under the effects of SCP-3828-1, picking SCP-3828 off the ground and placing it on the center of the table of the room. After extended exposure, however, the chimpanzee did not appear to become a SCP-3828-2, displaying none of the expected behaviours.

Closing Statement : After the twenty three (23) hour break, there was a notable change in SCP-3828-2B’s tone and body language. After the interview, SCP-3828 was removed from the room and returned to containment. D-2988 was hostile to the Foundation personnel retrieving SCP-3828 and was neutralized, then put into isolation for the following six (6) days.

Closing Statement : It is clear that the SCP-3828-2 will be chosen by the health of subjects available, and can change which subject is the SCP-3828-2 if a better option becomes available. After testing, D-4729 was neutralized and placed in isolation for six (6) days.
Notes : Because of the responses D-4729 (or SCP-3828-2E) gave to all statements and questions aside from the final one in direct mirror of the responses given by D-2988 (or SCP-3828-2B), I believe that SCP-3828 is [REDACTED] (Most notably because of the response to my final question).
