Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: Any instances of SCP-XXXX located on an unauthorized storage device or any file cloud are to be deleted, and any external download links on the Internet that provide an instance of SCP-XXXX are to be taken down immediately. An instance of SCP-XXXX is to be stored in a flash drive locked in a standard plastic case for research purposes. Researchers below clearance level 3 are forbidden to interact with SCP-XXXX, and close supervision by at least two other researchers is required during experimentation. Subjects observed to be affected by SCP-XXXX’s secondary effect are to be administered a Class-B amnestic immediately. Severe containment breaches are to be handled by Mobile Task Force Mu-4 (“Debuggers”).
Description: SCP-XXXX is a user-created weapon add-on with the name “PLAYER DESTROYER”, created for the physics sandbox video game Garry’s Mod and initially uploaded by Steam user █████████████. In the game, its model is identical to the fictional Pulse Rifle model from the first-person shooter Half-Life 2, from which Garry’s Mod was created. The weapon has three modes of firing that can be switched between when the player using it presses the “alt-fire” hotkey:
- “BULLETS”: The weapon rapidly fires bullets in a loose spread.
- “FIRE”: The weapon sprays burning gas that ignites other player characters and non-player characters.
- “RPG”: The weapon fires rocket-propelled grenades that explode on contact with an object, damaging nearby structures and characters.
SCP-XXXX’s primary anomalous property manifests when a player uses the weapon in-game to attack another player’s character. When a player’s character is injured with the weapon, the real-world person controlling the character (hereafter referred to as “the player”) receives their injuries. When the character is shot with the “BULLETS” firing mode, the player receives ballistic trauma in the same area their character was shot, although no bullet is apparent in the wound. The “FIRE” firing mode causes the player to spontaneously combust, and the “RPG” firing mode causes the player to explode violently, killing them instantly and damaging their surroundings with the explosion. The weapon’s coding does not have any references to how these effects are triggered. Self-inflicted damage does not trigger the effect.
SCP-XXXX also has a secondary memetic effect. Subjects who use SCP-XXXX within Garry’s Mod or examine its files will attempt to distribute it to other people by sharing the files online via a file cloud, allowing its effects to spread and potentially beginning a chain reaction. It is currently estimated that there are more than 1,000 instances of SCP-XXXX across storage drives and the Internet.
