Item #: SCP-4279

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4279 is to be kept at Site-[REDACTED] in a 2 x 3m steel chamber. Walls are to be lined with soundproof material, and reinforced internally with inches of concrete. The chamber is to be kept dark when the object is not in use. A single pair of reinforced, airtight shutters are to be installed on the ceiling and will serve as the only approved, consistent light source for the room. These shutters will mechanically open and let sunlight from outside the facility enter the chamber during experiments. 4279 is to not be moved from its currently placed spot and no attempts should be made to do so. A pressure plate sensor will be installed in the floor directly underneath 4279 to alert Site staff if the object is moved.

The chamber is to be isolated by a hallway serving as the only entry point to the chamber door. One surveillance camera will be posted at the end of the hall and will automatically alert security if any personnel without proper clearance are detected in the hallway. The hallway door is to be reinforced with steel and monitored by at least one security agent at all times. No security personnel however are allowed to be consistently posted in the hallway or chamber itself, due to possible memetic influences of 4279.

It is essential that no visible light be allowed to enter the chamber during a non-controlled environment. The chamber is to be inspected biweekly by a designated repair crew for any forming crevices that may let external light leak into the room. The shutters must be inspected weekly in a separate appointment as to guarantee no seeable defects in the machinery. Repair crews must have at least a Level 3 memetic resistance and all work must be done with night-vision equipment. No external light is to be brought into the chamber without explicit permission from the Senior Researcher.

Description:
SCP-4279 is a __ x __ m cube seemingly made of indestructible glass __ in cubic meters. The surface of the cube is finely smooth and lacks any apparent scratches or other damage. Because of the nature of 4279 in visible lighting, it is impossible to determine if the object is see-through or casts a reflection. Footage observed of the cube shows contradictory evidence; with several frames having the cube appear see through and then for it to suddenly reflect a test object left in the chamber.

When held, subjects are overcome with sudden intense fear and curiosity, becoming unable to put the object down and effectively ceasing most motor functions. Entrapped subjects, labeled 4279-1, will incomprehensibly mumble descriptions of the cube and reflections until their bodies collapse of exhaustion. 4279-1 instances do not respond to any stimuli except for if the object is touched or an attempt is made to forcibly separate the instance and object. All instances of 4279-1 will immediately enter a state of fury and uncontrollable assault where the instance will do all it can to continue holding the object. If successfully separated, 4279-1 instances will grasp their chest for a brief second before collapsing dead to the floor near-indistinguishable from a heart attack. Autopsy reports show however that there has never been evidence of an interruption in blood flow or heart failure. All hearts observed, instead, are found with barbed wire-like scarring across the surface, and appear to almost have been strangulated by an unexplained force.
