Special Containment Procedures: The runoff systems that SCP-xxxx-1 and SCP-xxx-3 were previously integrated with have been redirected, with the goal of ease of containment. Provisional sites have been established at the locations of SCP-xxxx-1 and SCP-xxxx-3. Entry into SCP-xxxx-2 must be authorized by both provisional site leaders before being attempted.

Entry into SCP-xxxx-2 while it is currently occupied is strictly forbidden.

Description: SCP-xxxx is an anomaly consisting of a set of 3 parts: SCP-xxxx-1 is a storm drain entrance grate located in the city of ██████, ████████████. When SCP-xxxx-1 is opened, rather than leading to the runoff system, it leads to a damp, mossy tunnel similar to a lava tube cave, designated SCP-xxxx-2. Testing has determined the moss growing with SCP-xxxx-2 to be comprised of several varieties of non-anomalous moss.

The exit to this cave is a grate similar to SCP-xxxx-1 (designated SCP-xxxx-3), that opens to a sandy beach thousands of kilometers away from the entrance, located at ████████, ██████. The cave cannot be entered from the exit, which leads to a non-anomalous runoff pipe if entry is attempted.

Relative time inside SCP-xxxx-2 differs significantly from outside the anomaly. When a subject enters SCP-xxxx-2, the time they spend inside has no bearing on the time at which they exit. The time of exit appears to be decided upon entry, seemingly at random See Interview Log 3/30/20██

Exploration Logs: SCP-xxxx has been explored ██ times to date. The initial exploration was overseen by Dr. Keene, and executed by 2 D-Class personnel, who reported the initial observable effects, but encountered no obstacles in their traversal, exiting SCP-xxxx after approximately 3 hours. The time elapsed within SCP-xxxx was reported as 35 minutes, with one rest period taken and several short attempts to reestablish contact with control, as laid out below.

NOTE: D-8769 is a 29-year-old Caucasian male of average build and physique. Subject has a history of petty theft, and 8 charges of aggravated assault.

D-5472 is a 24-year-old Latino male with a light build and physique. Subject has 3 counts of armed robbery and 1 count of motor vehicle theft.

Both subjects were equipped with standard mission equipment, including 3 glowsticks and 1 flare per kit, as well as communication earpieces and bodycams. Dr. Keene is standing by to give subjects direction at Control. In the event of lost contact, Control is to wait 12 hours before writing subjects off as MIA

Both subjects enter SCP-xxxx, and the grate is closed behind them. The interior is visible in recorded footage, but live audio and video feed is cut off at the moment of the grate closing.

D-5472: Fuck, there’s water dripping on my head. There’s some mossy shit on the ceiling that’s soaking wet. It’s running down my neck, man.

Both subjects quickly realize that contact with Control is no longer functional, and debate whether to proceed without instruction. After trying the grate from which they came, and subsequently failing to open it, they proceed down the tunnel.

D-8769: Not as dark as I expected. Tunnel must not go that deep. I can see some light way off in the distance, really faint.

D-5472: Oooh, man, “Do not go into the light” is like, rule number one, or two, or something like that.

D-8769: Got a better idea? Maybe going down the darkest branching tunnel we can find would be a lot safer, huh?

D-5472: Fuck off, man.

Both subjects proceed towards the source of light for 15 minutes, at which point they stop to rest. D-5472 drinks from his canteen before footage from D-8769’s camera shows him cupping a hand to his ear and listening for several seconds. The sound was inaudible at this point in the recording, although both corroboration from D-8769 and later audio excerpts confirm that D-5472 was not under any memetic or hallucinatory effects.

D-5472: You hear that? Sounds like waves crashing, really faint, like you’re listening to a conch shell.

Footage from D-5472’s camera shows D-8769 pausing to listen as well. After several seconds, he nods.

D-8769: Doesn’t sound too far off. Maybe this tunnel leads to a beach.

D-5472: A beach? Here, in [REDACTED]? Hell no, man. Nearest beach is ███ miles away. No way we’ve walked that far.

D-8769: Does this look like a normal storm drain to you?

D-5472: No fucking clue man. What, you spend enough time prowling through the sewers to be an expert or something?

D-8769 grunts in response, but otherwise does not answer. He proceeds down the tunnel towards the light source, with D-5472 following suit after a brief period of hesitation. The next 15 minutes are uneventful, save for the sound D-5472 had heard earlier becoming more audible, with the subjects reaching a similar grate to the entrance of SCP-xxxx. The grate opens with no difficulty, leading the subjects to a sandy beach. The subjects’ location is too far for contact with Control to be reestablished, however GPS tracking confirms their location at [REDACTED]. Subjects were apprehended by Foundation personnel rerouted from the nearest available site.

NOTE: Due to the lack of any apparent threats within the tunnel, the second exploration was conducted by field researchers in order to map out the exact length of the tunnel and discern the pattern of temporal deviations from standard time. As a precaution, the 12-hour retrieval protocol was retained from the previous mission.

Personnel were briefed on the lack of contact with control that they would experience and were reassured that the previous exploration had encountered no threats.

In addition to standard field researcher equipment, personnel were equipped with geological survey equipment with which to measure the tunnel’s dimensions, with intent to compare the results against future measurements to ascertain whether the tunnel’s dimensions were consistent across subsequent explorations.

After entering SCP-xxxx, contact was lost as expected, however monitors stationed at the exit to SCP-xxxx reported that the team did not emerge at any time before the 12-hour period had elapsed.
After the 12-hour window had elapsed, authorization was given to mobilize 3 members of MTF Zeta-9 ‘Mole Rats’, for evacuation of personnel within SCP-xxxx.

NOTE: 3 agents of Mobile Task Force Zeta-9 ‘Mole Rats’ were deployed to retrieve members of a research expedition into SCP-xxxx as per retrieval protocol as stated in the preliminary briefing for Expedition 2.

As contact with Control has been proven impossible, Zeta-9 are given instructions to act independently, and have been outfitted with bodycams and short-wave radio for the purpose of communicating with each other in the event that the space inside SCP-xxxx deviates from the previous explorations.

Zeta-9-1, 2, and 3 enter SCP-xxxx, the grate being shut behind them.

It is surmised that the cameras and audio recorders of Zeta-9-1 and 2 cease functioning at this point, as they were not recovered post-mission.

Footage from Zeta-9-3’s bodycam becomes indistinct as well, however audio remains functional. Zeta-9-3 expresses surprise and shock. Quiet splattering can be briefly heard.

Zeta-9-3: Jesus Christ!

A brief pause follows. Zeta-9-3 can be heard groaning and coughing, later testifying that she was suppressing the urge to vomit from severe motion sickness. Zeta-9-3 recovers and attempts to
contact Zeta-9-1 and 2.

Zeta-9-3: Zeta Nine Dash One, Dash Two, respond. I’ve… I’ve already reached the exit. Space appears to deviate from standard. Repeat, non-standard space─
At this point, Zeta-9-3’s testimony states that she realizes that she is covered with blood and traces of gore, having earlier failed to notice initially due to the wet conditions of the tunnel, and her own disoriented state.

Zeta-9-3: Fucking hell… Zeta Nine Dash One, Dash Two, please respond.

Receiving no response, Zeta-9-3 proceeds to wipe her bodycam lens clean of blood, revealing the interior of SCP-xxxx, with Zeta-9-3 standing next to the exit grate.

After awaiting contact from her team for several minutes, Zeta-9-3 receives no response. Footage shows her turning in the direction of the tunnel leading back to the entrance, but not attempting to go back the way she came.

Zeta-9-3 exits SCP-xxxx and is picked up by personnel stationed there.

Zeta-9-3 was later interviewed in order to gain a better understanding of the events that transpired. Dr. Keene acted as the interviewer.

Foreword: Zeta-9-3 was instructed to give her best recollection of the events that took place during Expedition 3, in order to fill in the gaps caused by her bodycam's temporary obstruction, as well as gather details that could not be represented through recording.

<Begin Log, 3/24/20██>

Dr. Keene: Hello Zeta-9-3, I’m Dr. Keene. I’m responsible for supervising testing for SCP-xxxx. According to recovered footage, which we could of course only obtain from your personal bodycam, you found yourself at the end of the tunnel, and separated from Zeta-9-1 and 2, more or less immediately following the grate closing behind you. Can you describe to me what transpired?

Zeta-9-3: Honestly doc, that sums it up. As soon as the grate was shut, I had barely taken one step before I was standing in front of the exit. It felt like the floor had… been pulled out from under me, or… like it had been stretched. Like a rubber band. Next thing I knew I was at the exit, alone. I felt like I was about to puke, and then I looked at my hands, and… oh god…

Dr. Keene: Take as long as you need to.

Zeta-9-3 takes a few breaths, then continues.

Zeta-9-3: I couldn’t get the others to respond, and when I looked back down the tunnel… something in the back of my mind screamed that I shouldn’t try to go back. It looked wrong. Like when you put two mirrors opposite each other, and the reflection goes on forever, except this wasn’t an infinite series of reflections, it was just the one tunnel, all warped, shifting when you moved your head even a tiny bit.

Dr. Keene: There was a visible spatial distortion?

Zeta-9-3 nods her head.

Zeta-9-3: I don’t know if that’s what got the researchers and my unit, or if it’s just an aftershock, or whatever. But I know that if I had tried to go back, I would have ended up a bloody smear on the wall. Like them.

Zeta-9-3 pauses for several seconds.

Zeta-9-3: Only that… there’s one thing that still nags at me. When the grate was closed, Dash One and Two were ahead of me. We were single file. Whatever killed them… I went right through it without a scratch. Without even seeing what happened. I couldn’t tell you why I’m even alive right now. It happened so fast…

Dr. Keene: Hmmm… Thank you Zeta-9-3. That will be all.

Closing Statement: It appears that whatever caused the deaths of the research team and Zeta-9-1 and 2 was some form of spatial anomaly not previously encountered within SCP-xxxx-2. Prior testing showed only the linking of two distant locations as an effect of SCP-xxxx’s spacetime-bending properties, as well as the variances in traversal time between outside and inside perspectives. More insight will need to be gained on SCP-xxxx’s anomalous effects to avoid subsequent disasters. There’s something here we’re missing, but for the life of me I don’t have a clue what it could be. Whatever dictates the variance in the traversal times just seems to be random, and maybe it is. But we can’t rule out the possibility of an unknown factor at play here. – Dr. Keene.

Addendum: On 3/30/20██, one week after the initial loss of the research team and Zeta-9-1 and 2, security systems detected an entity emerging from SCP-xxxx-3; upon apprehension, the entity was discovered to be Field Researcher ██████, one of the 3 personnel sent into SCP-xxxx-2 during Expedition 2. The subject was noted by security personnel to be covered with blood, and claimed to have only been inside SCP-xxxx-2 for approximately 1 hour.
