Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: Observation and analysis of SCP-XXXX's travel patterns have revealed that it has at least limited awareness of the "rules" of the road and will attempt to follow them whenever possible. When presented with two paths forward, one closed and one open, SCP-XXXX will always choose the open road. By getting ahead of the entity and intentionally closing certain roads in its path, it is possible to guide it away from populated areas. This has been deemed a suitable short-term containment solution. Mobile Task Force Delta-88 ("Roadtrippers")1 has been assigned to containment. SCP-XXXX's inclusion zone is to be limited to the 48 contiguous United States. As a contingency in the event the entity cannot be directed away from a populated area, a tow truck driven by a member of MTF Delta-88 is to be positioned directly in front of the entity to portray to onlookers the appearance of a non-anomalous vehicle being towed. Amnestics may be administered to civilians if necessary.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a beige, four-door 1973 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale convertible with a white cloth roof and whitewall tires. The vehicle's front end has sustained heavy damage. The engine is inoperable, the windshield is shattered, the upholstery shows signs of water damage, and the driver's side front tire is entirely missing. This damage is speculated to be the result of a head-on collision at some point prior to discovery. SCP-XXXX has been driving without any issues, without stopping, and without a driver since initial discovery in 1998.

It is not currently known how SCP-XXXX is able to continue driving, nor where it is heading (if it has a destination at all). Analysis of scattered police reports dating back to the 1980s suggests that SCP-XXXX had traveled all over the world prior to discovery. Sightings of a "ghost" vehicle roughly matching the entity's description were reported across every continent excluding Antarctica, with the majority of reports coming from North America. These reports were near universally thrown out as nonsense by police until an onlooker captured a picture of the entity and shared it with a local news station, leading to its discovery by Foundation personnel.

Experiment Log XXXX.A:

Date: █ September 199█

Subject: To determine whether SCP-XXXX will park itself when presented with a suitable parking space and no other open paths.

Procedure: MTF Delta-88 guided SCP-XXXX down the road leading into Parking Lot C of Site ██, which is nested between two office buildings and has only one entry/exit point for vehicles. The lot and the adjacent buildings had been closed off the day before in the interest of safety. After SCP-XXXX entered the lot, the only exit was blocked and the experiment officially began.

Results: SCP-XXXX drove to the far end of the lot and smashed through the wall of an adjoining building, taking out two load-bearing support beams and causing a partial structural collapse. It then drove through an electrified fence on the perimeter of the Site and cut across a stretch of grass to return to the nearest roadway, breaching containment until MTF Delta-88 could catch up with it about 15 minutes later. SCP-XXXX sustained no damage from the event, despite having a building collapse on it, being electrified, and being shot at by Foundation security.

Notes: The entity seems to be impervious to all damage, save what it already suffered in the past. Nothing we could throw at it left a mark. It also boasts the kinetic force of a speeding bullet train. Even a 12-inch thick concrete wall wasn't enough to slow it down. There was no direct line of sight with the nearest open road until after it cleared the fence. How it knew where to go, we don't yet know. Lastly, in light of the damage done, we must exercise greater caution in the future. No more experiments at Foundation facilities.

Experiment Log XXXX.B:

Date: ██ May 200█

Subject: To determine whether SCP-XXXX will drive in a circle indefinitely when placed on looping track.

Procedure: MTF Delta-88 guided the entity to the North Wilkesboro Speedway in North Carolina. The track, having been abandoned only a few years prior, was chosen for its simple oval layout, relative isolation, and ease of access. Once the entity was on the racetrack, all exits were blocked off and the test officially began.

Results: Results were promising at first. SCP-XXXX drove in circles on the track for several hours. At the 3 hour 43 minute mark, the entity abruptly changed direction, crashing through a locked gate and returning to the open road.

Notes: I dismissed my colleagues earlier when they hypothesized the entity may possess a higher degree of intelligence than we thought. I now see I was wrong. The entity did not drive in circles like some monotonous robot. It sped up along straights, drifted around corners, and seemed to master the track like a real racer. At one point it did a burnout. It was clearly enjoying itself. I suspect it only left the track because it got bored.

Experiment Log XXXX.C:

Date: ██ March 200█

Subject: To determine whether SCP-XXXX can be driven by a person.

Procedure: One D-Class personnel wearing protective padding was driven up alongside the entity by MTF Delta-88 and instructed to open the driver's side door and climb in. Once inside, they were told to drive the vehicle like they would any other.

Results: The subject climbed into the driver's seat without issue. Pressing the pedals and turning the steering wheel yielded no response from the entity. It continued driving straight ahead. The subject was then instructed to look around the vehicle and note any strange details. They found pieces of a glass bottle, a moldy baseball cap, a broken Polaroid camera, and a key. That key fit into the glovebox, and within was a small pile of papers. The few of note have been transcribed and included as addenda.
