Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be monitored by six standardized trail cameras positioned within a twenty meter radius of the tree. Edmund’s Path Trailhead is to be closed under the pretense of trail maintenance and unsafe geographical features. Any unauthorized persons monitored near SCP-XXXX’s site should be detained and given Class-A amnestics before being released from Foundation custody.
SCP-XXXX-1 through -6 are contained together in one furnished humanoid containment cell fitted with a regulated pipe pumping argon into the atmosphere. Requests from each subject are to be approved or denied by Researcher Lawson. Subjects are permitted to visit the staff gym once a week equipped with an argon breathing tank and the accompaniment of a Level 1 researcher or higher to monitor the data relating to their increasing physical abilities.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a gateway to an alternate dimension (SCP-XXXX-A) set into the trunk of an oak tree located on Mount Eisenhower at elevation of 4203 ft in White Mountain National Park, New Hampshire. When an organism comes in contact with SCP-XXXX, it is pulled through the tree into SCP-XXXX-A.
SCP-XXXX-A geographically mirrors the appearance of White Mountain National Park. Despite geographical accuracy, flora found in SCP-XXXX-A do not resemble any known species of fungi or plant. The tallest flora simulate trees and are turquoise colored while possessing smooth surfaces, drooping branches and visible roots stretching across the fungal forest floor. Shorter flora found in SCP-XXXX-A are a number of highly saturated colors including orange, magenta, blue and yellow. SCP-XXXX-A’s atmosphere is composed of 79.5% argon, 5% water vapor, 5% other noble gases and a 10.5% concentration of unidentifiable1 elements. Elemental compositions of the flora are primarily neon, argon and other unidentifiable elements.
SCP-XXXX-B is an ursine resembling entity that resides in SCP-XXXX-A, showing hostile and predatory behavior toward those who enter the dimension. It stands a height of 3 meters from the withers and is covered in shaggy turquoise fur with prominent yellow canines and large incisors.
SCP-XXXX-1, SCP-XXXX-2, SCP-XXXX-3, SCP-XXXX-4, SCP-XXXX-5 and SCP-XXXX-6 are Jamie, Nickleson, Bridger, Polonskye, Alejo and White, the former members of Mobile Task Force Zeta-12, “Black Forays”. Subjects possess an 8% higher mass of the lungs, heart, stomach and brain as well as a number of altercations on the physiological level. The bloodstream carries an unusually high white blood cell count and an unidentifiable hormone that allows natural regeneration to occur a recorded 12x faster than the average human. Subjects experience abnormally elongated bursts of adrenaline due to an increase in testosterone and the presence of an unidentifiable hormone replacing cortisol. Altered temperamental attributes include a shorter temper, fatigue, soreness and a previously unheard of craving for protein-rich foods.2
Subjects do not use oxygen in natural bodily processes, instead anomalously utilizing the element argon to function. The subjects are able to survive on the low percentages of argon present in Earth’s atmosphere but are unable to exercise and perform strenuous labor without suffering from an argon variant of hypoxia. However, when utilizing a breathing tank composed of pure argon, subjects show steadily-increasing, improved capabilities including a range of stamina, speed and strength 12x higher than the average human.
Discovery: On 12/29/██, SCP-XXXX was discovered after a string of disappearances occurred near Mount Eisenhower. A group of hikers vanished on the mountain and the search party disappeared soon after. A foundation agent stationed at the ████ Lodge in ███████ Notch followed the authorities’ trail and discovered SCP-XXXX, briefly entering SCP-XXXX-A. Shortly after exiting, he was found dead by a passerby on the main trail. Notified of his death, the foundation closed off nearby hiking trails and Mobile Task Force Zeta-12 was sent to investigate.
Addendum XXXX.1: On 1/4/██ SCP-XXXX-1 through -6 were transferred to a permanent, shared containment cell due to the identical nature of their anomalous properties. In the following days after initial transfer, subjects began experiencing worsening symptoms of fatigue.
On 1/10/██ at 1325 hours, SCP-XXXX-1 was observed through camera feed to be attempting a full set of pushups. Three minutes in, all six subjects suddenly collapsed unconscious onto the floor of their containment and were immediately transported to the hospital wing. Blood tests revealed the subjects’ utilization of argon and all six were promptly administered argon breathing tubes. Subjects made a full recovery within twenty-four hours.
SCP-XXXX-1 through -6's joint containment cell has since been fitted with a regulated gas pipe pumping argon into the atmosphere per the subjects’ needs.
Addendum XXXX.2: After █ years of containment, conditioning and specialized training overseen by Researcher Lawson, SCP-XXXX-1 through -6 have repeatedly requested to return to the Mobile Task Force mission field. Due to their enhanced physical abilities under the influence of argon, the subjects have been speculated to pose as a tactical advantage in the mission field.
As of 3/14/██ 6/14/██, the O5 Council's permission for SCP-XXXX-1 through -6 to return to the Mobile Task Force mission field is pending has been granted given specific requirements in regards to assigned missions3 are met.
As of 7/4/██, subjects have been re-designated as MTF Zeta-12 "Argon Breathers".
