Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is currently kept in a Safe-class containment chamber in Site-64.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a large, traditional balance scale roughly three (3) meters in height, consisting of two plates each roughly 0.8 meters in diameter. SCP-XXXX is primarily made of brass, and a symbol that depicts an eye is marked onto its fulcrum.

SCP-XXXX does not compare objects by weight, but rather by the number of eyes they have.

Discovery: SCP-XXXX was found on 07/15/20██, when an ocular focus cult, hereafter referred to as GoI-XXXX, was found to be responsible for multiple missing people around ████████, Oregon. After tracking the victims to the cult's base, Foundation operatives raided the base, and all members of GoI-XXXX have been detained. During the raid, SCP-XXXX was found to be holding a bowl containing an eyeball on one of its plates, and the body of one of the missing people on the other plate, with both of their eyes missing. Although the body should've been heavier, the scale shows that the bowl was heavier instead. SCP-XXXX was then confiscated by the Foundation.

Addendum XXXX-A:

Test #: XXXX-1
Researcher: Dr. Karey
Procedure: Two (2) adult Mus musculus (House mice) were placed on one plate, and one (1) D-Class on the opposite plate.
Results: The former plate weighed heavier.
Conclusion: The scale neglects the actual weights of objects.

Test #: XXXX-2
Researcher: Dr. Karey
Procedure: One (1) 1kg weight was placed on one plate, while the opposite plate was empty.
Results: Both plates weighed identically.
Notes: When Dr. Karey proceeded to collect the weight from the balance after the experiment, a Musca domestica (Housefly) had landed on the opposite plate, producing enough force to launch the weight off the balance, which landed on and hit Dr. Karey's head later. Dr. Karey had gained a concussion and was immediately admitted to the medical ward.
Conclusion: SCP-XXXX completely neglects objects that do not possess eyes. When objects with compound eyes are involved, SCP-XXXX counts the individual ommatidia (the units) that makes up those compound eyes.

From this point onward, Dr. Trevor Eriksson and Junior Researcher Isaac Eriksson has been temporarily assigned to SCP-XXXX for the duration of Dr. Karey's recovery. Special Containment Procedures have now been updated to spray insect repellent around SCP-XXXX before testing.

Test #: XXXX-3
Researcher: Dr. Trevor and Researcher Isaac
Procedure: A drawing of an eye was placed on one plate, while the opposite plate was empty.
Results: Both plates weighed identically.
Conclusion: SCP-XXXX is unable to detect depictions of eyes.

Test #: XXXX-4
Researcher: Dr. Trevor and Researcher Isaac
Procedure: A photo of Dr. Trevor was placed on one plate, while the opposite plate was empty.
Results: The former plate weighed heavier.
Conclusion: SCP-XXXX is able to detect eyes found in photographs.

Addendum XXXX-B:

<ACCESS RECORDING>

On 07/20/20██, surveillance footage had revealed Researcher Isaac inside SCP-XXXX's containment chamber attempting to perform a test on his own, which Researcher Isaac was reprimanded for.

[BEGIN RECORDING]

Researcher Isaac: (visibly holds a photograph and a bouncy ball in his hands) I wonder what would happen if I used a picture of a hundred ants to launch this ball…

(As soon as Researcher Isaac had placed the ball onto SCP-XXXX and was about to place the photograph onto the other empty plate, SCP-XXXX's beam tilted to lift the empty plate up, preventing Researcher Isaac from placing the photograph)

SCP-XXXX: What the hell do you think you're doing??

Researcher Isaac: Woah, you can talk??

SCP-XXXX: Don't change the topic! What are you trying to do with that photograph over there?

Researcher Isaac: Um… I just wanted to see what would happen if I used it to launch the ball.

SCP-XXXX: Well guess what, it's not gonna launch. Why? Because I'm gonna fucking break!

Researcher Isaac: Come on, you survived a fly.

SCP-XXXX: You think this photograph is no different from just a fly?? Y'know what, allow me to demonstrate.

(SCP-XXXX launches the ball on its own, causing it to hit Researcher Isaac's head (no visible effect) and bounce back onto SCP-XXXX's plate)

SCP-XXXX: This is how much damage a fly could do to me.

(SCP-XXXX launches the ball again, but this time, with enough force to ricochet off the chamber's walls a few times before hitting Researcher Isaac in the [DATA EXPUNGED])

Researcher Isaac: [EXCESSIVE EXPLETIVES REDACTED]

SCP-XXXX: This is how much damage that damn photograph could do to me.

Researcher Isaac: [EXCESSIVE EXPLETIVES REDACTED]

SCP-XXXX: I have to admit, even those cultist guys were more sane than you.

This occasion has been the only time when SCP-XXXX has demonstrated sapience and sentience, and the ability to vocally communicate through unknown means. Other attempts to communicate with SCP-XXXX without provoking it similarly¹ have met with failure.
