O' Crimson Light

An instance of the start of an SCP-XXXX event.

Special Containment Procedures: Due to the nature of SCP-XXXX, containment is focused on observation, as SCP-XXXX events do not occur outside of the affected area. Victims of SCP-XXXX events are to be detained and questioned if possible of their experience during an SCP-XXXX event, after which they must be given Class B amnestics.

Description: SCP-XXXX is an event which specifically occurs in the town of Mariager, Denmark. After multiple observations of SCP-XXXX events and interviews with victims of SCP-XXXX events, it is concluded that SCP-XXXX events only occur when specific criteria are met. The criteria are as followed:

• The victim must have moved into the town, and bought a house to live in.

• The victim must live alone. SCP-XXXX events do not occur if more than two people are moving into a new house.

• The victim must have a loved one(s) which are either deceased, divorced or have gone through a breakup with the civilian.

•The victim must feel guilt over the events with occurred between them and their loved one(s) .

If all of these criteria are met, then an SCP-XXXX event will occur after one week of the victims stay in their new home. An SCP-XXXX event begins with a luminescent dark red light being emitted from the light fixture in the victim's current position in their household. Interviews have shown that whether the light fixture is in use or not does not effect the outcome of SCP-XXXX events. Once the victim is aware of the light, an entity will appear in front of the victim resembling the loved one mentioned in the criteria (All know instances of this entity are to be labeled SCP-XXXX-1).

SCP-XXXX-1 will be very caring toward the victim, showing signs of affection towards them, even if the loved one was known to be abusive, or showed no signs of affections towards the victim. SCP-XXXX-1 tries to convince the victim to "join them in the crimson light", and will start to become more seductive towards the victim. If the victim is convinced by SCP-XXXX-1 to join them, SCP-XXXX-1 will proceed to approach the victim and kiss them passionately. After approximately ten seconds after the kiss, SCP-XXXX-1 will proceed to rip out the victims trachea with its teeth and [DATA REDACTED] the victim. Once the victim has died, SCP-XXXX-1 will disappear, and the room will return to its previous state.

SCP-XXXX-1 however, can be "contained" by a victim if the victim shows and feels no guilt toward the event in which they lost their loved one(s) and rejects the entity's offer. If the victim rejects SCP-XXXX-1,SCP-XXXX-1 will begin to change its form to resemble a more monstrous version of the loved one. Interviews have shown that the forms that it takes have some common traits. These include red pupils, sharpened canine teeth, elongated limbs which are estimated to be two metres in length, and large wings which are located on the scapulae of SCP-XXXX-1. These wings have been identified to be bearing a resemblance to Diaemus Youngi. Once this form is revealed, SCP-XXXX-1 will begin to melt through the floor while shouting profanities at the victim. An SCP-XXXX event will no longer occur for a victim who has rejected the entity, no matter if they start to feel guilty about past events in the future.

Interviewer: Agent ███
Interviewee: Edward ██████

Edward: Who are you people?

Agent ███: Who we are is not important. What is important is that you tell us exactly what happened to you.

Edward: Why should I trust you?

Agent ███: Because if you tell us what happened, then we can help people that could go through what you went through. You could save lives, Edward.

Edward: [Silence for four seconds] Okay, fine… I'll talk.

Agent ███: Good. First question, where were you in your house when the event occurred?

Edward: I was…in my bedroom. I was just getting ready to go to sleep. And as was about to get into bed, this red light just started to come out of my bedroom light.

Agent ███: Was the light in use?

Edward: Uh… No. it wasn't. I'd just turned it off for like 10 seconds, and then it turned back on slowly, but in red.

Agent ███: I see. And what happened after that?

Edward: Um… I heard footsteps coming from my bathroom. And the door opened.

Agent ███: Who opened it?

Edward: It was… It was…..

[Edward begins to cry and sob]

Agent ███: It's okay, take your time.

Edward: I'm okay.. it's just… I saw ███████.

Agent ███: Who is ███████?

Edward: She was… my wife. We'd gotten into a car crash and she'd died. And there she was, in my house. In my fucking house! How?! How the fuck was she here?!

Agent ███: Okay, calm down. Just tell me what happened next.

Edward: She started to act weird, like she was getting turned on or something. She said to me, "Heya honey. I've missed you so much after the accident. You failed me then, but now you can fix this. Come with me and join the crimson light. It's so beautiful here."

Agent ███: And you refused to go with her?

Edward: Yeah, I did. I told her "I've missed you too ███████, but I'm not going with you. I may feel bad about what happened, but I know it wasn't my fault! And you can't pin that on me! Get out of my house!"

Agent ███: And then she left?

Edward Yeah. But she started to change. She grew bat wings, and her arms and legs grew longer. And then she started to… melt. Right into the floor. She was swearing at me the entire time in a really low voice. Stuff like "You fucking shitbag!" and "You left me to die, you fucking worthless piece of crap!". As she left, the red light got dimmer until it was pitch black. Then I turned my light on and just kinda broke down crying. Then you guys came outta nowhere.

Agent ███: I see. Thank you Edward. You don't know how many lives you've just potentially saved.

[After this interview Edward is administered Class B amnestics and returned to his home.]

Test 14D - 27/4/████

Subject: D-6957. Subject has been convicted of murder. Victims included wife, and two female children, both seven years of age.

Procedure: Subject was interviewed to obtain details of the murders so that the subject could feel guilt for his actions. Subject was instructed to move into a house in SCP-XXXX's affected area. Subject was not told of SCP-XXXX or its anomalous effects.

Results: Subject moved into the new home in SCP-XXXX's affected area, and after one week had passed, multiple instances of SCP-XXXX-1 manifested in the vicinity of the subject. SCP-XXXX-1 took the appearance of the subject's deceased wife and two children. The subject was instantly persuaded by the entities to join them, in which the entity which took the appearance of his wife proceeded to kiss the subject, while the entities which took the appearance of his children began to hug his legs. After twenty seconds, the two children proceeded to gnaw on the subjects Achilles tendons, causing the subject to topple over. They then pinned him down by holding his arms. His wife then proceeded to walk towards him, rip out his trachea with her hand, and [DATA EXPUNGED] the subject. All instances of SCP-XXXX-1 disappeared shortly after the subject expired.

Analysis: "It seems that SCP-XXXX is able to make things a lot easier for itself by using multiple entities to make people more susceptible to persuasion. A cruel trick just to obtain that death it seems to desire. But i will admit, it is a smart move by it. - Dr ██████

Test 47A - 19/8/████

Subject: D-3928. Subject had recently broken up with her boyfriend, as she was confirmed to be abusive towards him. Her boyfriend was then confirmed to have committed suicide five days after the breakup.

Procedure: Subject was interviewed to obtain information prior to and during the breakup so that the subject could feel guilt for her actions towards him. Subject was instructed to move into a house in SCP-XXXX's affected area. Subject was not told of SCP-XXXX or its anomalous effects.

Results: Subject moved into a home in SCP-XXXX's affected area, and after one week had passed, one instance of SCP-XXXX-1 manifested in the subjects home. SCP-XXXX-1 tried to convince the subject to join them, but the subject started to act hostile towards the entity, shouting profanities at it, and striking it across the face. SCP-XXXX-1 cowered in fear, changing its appearance, while whimpering. Subject then proceeded to kick SCP-XXXX-1 repeatedly, which caused the entity to yell and cry. SCP-XXXX-1 then began to melt through the floor, while crying. Subject was then tranquilized and given Class B amnestics.

Analysis: "That was… certainly a interesting outcome. It seems like SCP-XXXX-1 can be warded off if the hatred for the loved one is strong enough. It is also interested to note that SCP-XXXX-1 seems to feel pain, and does have emotions. Perhaps there is more to this that initially thought." - Dr ██████

Interviewee: An instance of SCP-XXXX-1
Notes: Dr ██████ had lost his wife due to an incident involving ●●|●●●●●|●●|● 3 years prior to the interview. This interview occured after SCP-XXXX-1's disguise was seen through by Dr ██████. It then changed its appearance, and became willing to comply.

Dr ██████: Hello SCP-XXXX-1. Its nice to finally have the chance to talk with you. What made you comply?

SCP-XXXX-1: [Despite SCP-XXXX-1 being in its "original form", the voice of Dr ██████'s wife still remains] Hello ██████. I knew there was no point in trying to lure you. I just wanted to talk to you again.

Dr ██████: Again? But we've never met each other before.

SCP-XXXX-1: You've know me for years, ██████. We've were married for 5 years. You must remember that, right?

Dr ██████: Wait… is it really you Vanessa?

SCP-XXXX-1: Yes ██████, it is. No tricks, no lies. It is really me.

Dr ██████: [Dr ██████ is heard taking a sharp inhale of breath, most likely of shock, followed by five seconds of silence] What happened to you?!

SCP-XXXX-1: I… I don't know. I just remember waking up and I saw a light. A crimson light. I followed it, and it took me to the most beautiful place I've ever seen.

Dr ██████: What did it look like? Were there people there?

SCP-XXXX-1: It looked like this town. But the sky was the most prettiest red. And there were people there. Entire families even. But they were… the most disgusting creatures I've ever seen. [SCP-XXXX-1 pause for three seconds, and its voice reverts to its expected deeper tone] And I was disgusted by the fact that I had become one of them as well.

Dr ██████: Have you tried to leave at all?

SCP-XXXX-1: [SCP-XXXX-1's voice returns to its previous state] Yes. Multiple times. But there's walls around the town. And a ceiling too. No one gets out.

Dr ██████: Except for when they do. And when they do, innocent people die. Do you know why?

SCP-XXXX-1: Because the light demands it. If we don't do as it says, it hurts us, takes us away from each other, turns us to ash. And none of us want that.

Dr ██████: Okay… so what does this "Light" want?

SCP-XXXX-1: It wants more people to become part of the town. It gives us everything we could ever want. Food, water, happiness, love, power, desire… It gives us everything. But it needs more people to join it so that this can happen. So the light tells us to go and take people here. If they want to join us, their life is the price for an eternal utopia. They body remains, but their spirit joins the light. Gruesome, yes…. but it is worth it.

Dr ██████: I see. Listen Vanessa, I miss you. I really do. But we both know that I can't come with you. I need to tell the Foundation about this. About you. They need to know everything.

SCP-XXXX-1: I know. [SCP-XXXX-1's skin begins to flake and fall off of its body, while muffled crying can be heard.]

Dr ██████: [Dr ██████ becomes emotionally distressed] Wait, what's going on?! What's happening to you?!

SCP-XXXX-1 The light has seen us. It knows that we have talked to each other. It cannot let me live anymore.

Dr ██████: No, there's has to be something that I can do! Please! Just let me help you!

SCP-XXXX-1 You… already… have. I love… you… dar…l…in…g…

[SCP-XXXX-1 quickly falls apart, and becomes nothing more than a pile of dust. Dr ██████ is heard sobbing uncontrollably for two minutes before regaining his composure]

Dr ██████: I love you too, dear. I love you too.

Addendum: SCP-XXXX was first made aware to the Foundation on March 7th, 20██, when the towns local police office's database was unintentionally leaked to the public due to a coding error. This database included a unusually high death count of ███,███ civilians that had occurred in only one month, despite the population of Mariager being approximately 2523 people. After multiple Foundation Members moved into the town to investigate the deaths and mysteriously died as a result, the Foundation concluded that a potential SCP was harbouring itself in the town, and a Site was created on the outside border of the town to study and monitor for any future activity.

Notes: Due to the unique instance of SCP-XXXX occurring for Dr ██████ and the information that he carried, he had been asked to be head of research concerning SCP-XXXX. He has graciously accepted the offer. Any Foundation members that are assigned to observe SCP-XXXX are to report to him from this point onward.

Notes: Due to the recent suicide of Dr ██████, all Foundation employees that are assigned to SCP-XXXX are to report to the new head researcher of SCP-XXXX, Dr Leone.
