Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: ]
SCP-XXXX is to be contained within a standard containment chamber, with access to the chamber limited only to authorised tests given prior permission by a senior researcher with level 3 security clearance or higher. Video cameras are to operate within the cell at all times but audio recording devices are not required. After testing all instances of SCP-XXXX-1 are to be transferred to a standard humanoid containment cell, where they are kept under watch by an armed guard at all times until cleared by onsite phycologists

Description:
SCP-XXXX is an approximately 40"x40" dark wooden window frame. The wood appears to be aged, with the wood being cracked and in certain locations along the frame, rotting. Within the window frame is a glass window pane but has noticeable damage to it, leaving much of the pane missing from the frame.

The glass pane has distinct brown smears on the base of the glass which after sample testing have been shown to contain both animal and human DNA but due to age, the full composition of the sample could not be fully identified. SCP-XXXX was originally found in an uninhabited house on the outskirts of ███████ , Scotland. The wood which makes the frame has been theorized to have been originally harvested from a local forest though no matches for the wood type could be found within an 30 km radius of the shed.

Upon first review SCP-XXXX seems to be of no particular concern, but when the subject is facing away from SCP-XXXX they are quickly startled by what has been described by subjects as a "knocking" sound. Individuals state that it sounds like it is coming from the other side of the glass, despite the pane being broken. Subjects have also stated it sounds a human rapping their knuckles against the glass as if they are trying to get the attention of the subject. Furthermore the "knocking" seems to only be perceived by the subject and all attempts at picking up the sound via audio recording devices have been unsuccessful.

Upon hearing the sound emitted by SCP-XXXX, subjects, now identified as SCP-XXXX-1, show an increase in heart rate and breathing along with dilated pupils and on occasion visible trembling. This suggests SCP-XXXX-1 experiences a fight or flight response due to the sound. After the initial response, SCP-XXXX-1 will walk towards SCP-XXXX and seemingly try to identify the location that the knocking is emitted from, which have been unsuccessful in all tests so far. Upon realisation that they cannot find the source, SCP-XXXX-1 pace or patiently sit for 10 minutes before breaking down into tears on the floor.

SCP-XXXX-1 will stay in this state for approximately 20 minutes before they begin to start scratching at their ears. This scratching behaviour can quickly escalate into SCP-XXXX-1 attempting to, and eventually succeeding to rupture their own ear drums. Subjects have used nearby tools in order to do this with notable tools including pencils, audio equipment issued to SCP-XXXX-1 and in one instance ████████. This behaviour has been theorized to be in order to stop the knocking sounds emitted by SCP-XXXX. Upon accomplishment of the task SCP-XXXX-1 will bang at the door of the containment chamber repeatedly asking to be let out. The effects of SCP-XXXX also appear to effect those with a history of mental health problems more drastically and often occur at a faster rate than those who are mentally stable. Physical attributes seemingly have little effects on SCP-XXXX-1's ability to withstand SCP-XXXX

Addendum:
SCP-XXXX came to the attention of the foundation after information about a local teenager being reported missing and subsequently found under suspicious circumstances in the area surrounding SCP-XXXX. After undercover Field Agent ██████ , failed to reestablish communication after investigating the location of SCP-XXXX, a small team of members from MTF Psi-7("Home Improvement") were dispatched to identify and contain SCP-XXXX. Once located, containment was established without incident and after being cut from the wall, SCP-XXXX was airlifted to site-19. Field Agent ██████ was located 5km away from SCP-XXXX's original location with perforated eardrums and minor injuries sustained to their feet and arms, likely occurred during the process of moving away from SCP-XXXX. Field Agent █████ was given a Class E classification and remained under analysis for 4 months before being cleared by onsite phycologists.
