Item #: SCP-4310
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4310-1 is to be contained in the center of a 4m x 3.5m cylindrical glass enclosure at all times. Measurements of SCP-4310-1 are to be collected daily and compared with previous measurements, any changes in these measurements are to be reported immediately.
Staff or D-Class entering the enclosure are to wear the issued protective equipment. Upon entering two staff members are required to stay behind covering the entrance, if no staff are available entry is not permitted. Contact with SCP-4310-1 fluid on the equipment is to be reported and after all activities within the enclosure are completed the affected equipment is to be submitted for research. If SCP-4310-2 numbers exceed that of approximately 20, all activities scheduled or active are to be cancelled immediately.
Any found hosts of SCP-4310-2 will be locked in a standard cell with comfortable living arrangements until further orders are passed.
If growth is detected, which inevitably it will be whether due to carelessness or a containment breach, all site personnel will be put under investigation. This can take anywhere from a day to a week, so compliance with required testing and MRI scans would greatly help speed the process up. Any resistance will lead to disciplinary actions. We apologize in advance for any interruptions caused by this.
Description: SCP-4310-1 is a functioning large agglomerate of neurons resembling and functioning like a human brain. The left and right hemispheres are divided down the longitudinal fissure, opening up to a hollow cavity filled with a pink unidentified viscous substance. The interior surrounding the substance are made up of combed structures which provokes a strong similarity to the combed structures within a honey bee hive. Once placed on a surface for any considerable amount of time SCP-4310-1 will secrete this substance to stably keep connection to the ground. From the cavity SCP-4310-1 spawns instances of SCP-4310-2.
SCP-4310-2 are parasitic organisms spawned from the viscous substance within the opening of SCP-4310-1. They are made up of neurons similar to SCP-4310-1 contrasting to it only in it's worm-like shape and mobility. When spawned they are about 0.2m in length but after the feeding process they are reported to mature and grow to about 4m in length. Tumor-like growths cover the surface of the organism with several sharp extrusions extending from the tip of its conical shaped head and two sensory organs at each side of the head which provide advanced awareness of the organisms surroundings. On the opposite end of the organism they have a hooked proboscis that extends slightly from the body at about .05m but can vary depending on the organisms size which it uses for feeding.
SCP-4310-2 live only 48 hours without a host as the organism seems to rely on brain activity, only finding interest in human brains. The organism does not feed off of SCP-4310-1 for any more activity other than the original activity SCP-4310-1 transfers into them when spawning SCP-4310-2. SCP-4310-2 organisms actively will seek out human hosts to insert themselves inside (typically through the navel cavity but other entry points will be used on occasion) while actively dispersing a substance similar to the fluid within SCP-4310-1 which numbs and heals all wounds inflicted. After insertion the parasite begins their migration to the hosts brain taking about 20 hours to reach the destination and an additional 4 hours to attach itself to the frontal lobe with their hooked proboscis. SCP-4310-2 will at this point secrete more of the viscous substance to fuse with the hosts frontal lobe beginning the feeding process. As previously mentioned, SCP-4310-2 relies on brain activity and thus feeds off it within the host for an indefinite amount of time. To stimulate more activity, SCP-4310-2 will oscillate frequent beta and/or gamma wave signals which trigger neural activity within the host. This stimulation from SCP-4310-2 will intensify as SCP-4310-2 grows over the course of 7 days, after the 7 day period expires SCP-4310-2 will reach its max length of 4m wrapping its body around the brain continuing its feeding process and oscillation.
All hosts will display a clear lack of memory in regards to SCP-4310-2 inserting itself inside of their bodies and deny all accusations of the parasite being inside them. Exactly pinpointing what causes this has been unsuccessful, but the fluid is suspected to cause this anomalous effect. No discomfort is observed when the parasite migrates towards the hosts brain but migraines are reported around the time of fusion with the frontal lobe. Hosts after the 24 hour period will express random insightful thoughts and knowledge covering numerous topics even [REDACTED]. EEG tests on the hosts at this point typically display increased neural activity exceeding that of beta waves and entering gamma wave level at over 40Hz when most active. As the feeding process continues the host will display signs of distress and fatigue expressing that the thoughts "are not of their own" as well as displaying numerous cases of REM sleep with oscillation never ceasing. After SCP-4310-2 growth is at maximum the neural oscillations will intensify at varying levels causing an overload of neural activity within the host. Hosts at this point will often uncontrollably state incoherent statements or factoids without a clear method of controlling thought with the exception of few down periods for the host to be signaled to act out the necessities for survival. Knowledge of the host at these points are immeasurable even partially extending into clairvoyant aspects. EEG tests report high level gamma waves at almost 80Hz with down periods lowering them to heightened beta wave oscillations. Hosts during the down periods will act out their needs but will also display emotional instability and the feeling of the loss of individuality. Unless terminated, the host will live out their normal lifespan as the parasite continues to feed, unable to accurately control themselves.
The feeding of SCP-4310-2 does not only affect the parasites growth but the growth of SCP-4310-1 as well. Continuous feeding stimulates signals within SCP-4310-1 causing additional tissue to grow in a cylindrical formation on the exterior of SCP-4310-1 increasing the size and the volume of the substance within the brain-like hive. Providing incentive to believe that SCP-4310-2 is sent out as a feeder for SCP-4310-1. However, even without connection to any hosts SCP-4310-1 seems to take no negative effects and EEG tests report same levels of activity normal to SCP-4310-1. Although the longer SCP-4310-1 remains unconnected neural signals oscillate with heightened intensity and SCP-4310-1 will produce increased amounts of SCP-4310-2 with an increased rate of production. This will steadily increase every two days until a host is connected.

Saved message from Dr. D Grigs: I shouldn't have to state the potential security hazard SCP-4310 as a whole presents. These are creatures that could easily be weaponized by opposition if they were to get their hands on them. Not to the mention the potential [REDACTED]. This is a highly intelligent organism which has provided a variety of examples of knowing information even beyond that of which could possibly be known.
Concerns were noted and updated security procedures are being worked upon.
Addendum 01 - SCP-4310 Recovery Information: Detailed information regarding the recovery of SCP-4310-1 is strictly limited, but key pieces are allowed for distribution. SCP-4310-1 was located in South America, anomalous properties were present, and there was several eventual casualties. Recovery was successful as is evident by containment of SCP-4310-1 but personnel involved with recovery have sworn secrecy and no logs exist of recovery.
Addendum 02 - Containment:
Audio Message from CS Holloway - Received 9/16/████: Hey it's Holloway, so the documentation here says this brain thing grows. Not only that it says it produces little super smart worms sometimes by the dozens, now I'm not question anything but, how the hell are we supposed to contain this thing!? The size of this thing now is like [REDACTED] and so far the eggheads don't know how big this thing gets, furthermore these worms are smart as hell, they may not show it but you can just tell that they're up to something… Thank God they only live 2 days or else I don't think this current setup would be enough.. Hell I already don't even think this setup is enough.. Ahh.. The cylindrical design of this enclosure should help keep up with measurements of that… hive. Just keep it in the center of the room, notice any growth and measurements should be easy. But, hey, keep those little fuckers inside the enclosure. No telling what they would do if they got out. Message End
Audio Message from CS Holloway - Received 9/18/████: Holloway again.. Someone has not been cleaning the enclosure for the past. two. fucking. days… Now I know it's not detailed in the documentation but this pink goo that they're made of, fucking. stinks. Not only that but this goo is causing degradation of the enclosure, not like severe degradation but enough to cause me having to go and repair the thing. So please, if worst comes to worst get D-Class to come clean this shit, I'm sure they would appreciate this more than whatever other hells they go through. Message End
Audio Log of CS Holloway - Received 10/4/████: Ah one of the dumb shits got one of those worms inside of them, they were taken to the infirmary to hopefully get it removed before the thing becomes one with the guy. There was just a little sliver that the suit didn't cover and one of those things knew about it, slipped right in. Fucking guy didn't even feel it. Ah, I'm going to prepare the cell.. Just in case. Log End
Addendum 03 - Experimentation Logs:
SCP-4310-1 EEG Tests - 9/17/████
Procedure: The goal is to see the oscillation rates of SCP-4310-1 and specifically the most active points of SCP-4310-1 neurons. A EEG will be placed on SCP-4310-1 and monitored for any activity, if things go well staff are asked to create some form of stimuli to see what points of SCP-4310-1 light up.
Results: While experiment was successful determining oscillation rates of over the normally maximum 150Hz, finding the most active sections has proven unsuccessful. All parts of the brain function at a parallel rate with one another 24/7. What we have discovered is the lack of an emotional center and an acute awareness of its surroundings. External stimuli seems to trigger a oscillation focus within the logic centers of the brain lasting around 5 seconds before oscillation continues around all areas. However, when staff were instructed to see if afflicting slight pain to SCP-4310-1 would cause oscillations in other areas, focused oscillation began once again in the logic centers before producing several SCP-4310-2 organisms, causing an abrupt end to the experiment.
Note of Dr. D Grigs: Now we may have limited proof on this but considering what SCP-4310-2 does to hosts, I feel like it's safe to assume this is a logic based organism. And considering the reported oscillation rates, this is an organism that functions at higher rates than any human mind, with knowledge practically untold. And how it reacted to something that didn't even occur yet, where did this thing come from? Certainly, like most items within the foundation, it's not from this world. Obviously, this could also potentially propose numerous problems. I'll have to message the site director about security regarding SCP-4310.
