SCP-4878 prior to containment.

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: Due to the immobile nature of SCP-4878, Armed Containment Site (ACS) 27 has been constructed in situ. ACS 27 is located in ██████, Russia. ACS 27 is to be considered a restricted zone with a minimum 2km zone of control.

SCP-4878 is to be housed in a 50m diameter and 0.75m thick concrete dome structure. 5 modified RD-0210 rocket engines are to be installed on the walls of the containment dome with their exhaust directed towards SCP-4878. The interior of the dome is to be patrolled at all times by no less than 3 security personnel equipped with incendiary devices. Additional monitoring will be performed from site control by closed-circuit cameras positioned around the dome.

During a secretion event, security personnel are to utilize their issued incendiary devices to destroy new instances of SCP-4878-3. Should SCP-4878-3 incineration fail, the interior rocket engines will be activated for no less than 10 seconds. Security personnel are then to requisition incendiary devices from the armory and participate in suppression and cleanup of remaining SCP-4878-3 while containment is reestablished. In the event of a containment breach exceeding ACS 27’s 2km zone of control, Tunguska-02 Protocol is to be enacted.

SCP-4878-1 is to be contained in a standard anomalous item locker in the ACS 27 command center. It may accessed under video surveillance by any personnel of clearance level 2 or higher.

Description: SCP-4878 is an oblate spherical object with a diameter of 3.59m. SCP-4878’s outer shell is a material of unknown composition1 that is highly absorptive of electromagnetic radiation, giving it a dull grey-black color, and resistant to extreme heat and pressure. An ovate hatch is set into the side of SCP-4878 and can be opened by applying moderate force. The hatch will close automatically after approximately 8 minutes. The mechanism behind this action is currently unknown. The interior of SCP-4878 is a hollow cavity lined with a highly reflective material of unknown composition2. A column protrudes from the bottom of the interior and extends into the center, parallel to the entrance hatch. This column ends in a flat top with a hemispherical indentation, determined to be a receptacle for SCP-4878-2.

SCP-4878-1 was found attached to the exterior of SCP-4878 and was removed with minimal force. It is a crescent-shaped plate with rounded edges made from a tungsten alloy, 0.60m in length. Chemical analysis of the object has uncovered that certain surface regions bear different alloy metal ratios. Visual mapping3 of these regions has revealed a number of distinct two-dimensional images. For a complete list of images, see Document 4878.1.

SCP-4878-2 was a sphere measuring 0.210m in diameter found on the floor of SCP-4878’s interior. It was composed of 308 stacked metallic disks of various elemental compositions and colors. When exposed to a localized magnetic field of at least 5x10-3T, the disks composing SCP-4878-2 would instantaneously exchange composition and color with other disks in the stack. As long as the magnetic field persisted, the disks would continue this action at a rate of approximately 0.6 changes per second. The mechanism behind this action is unknown.

After events detailed in Document 4878.2, SCP-4878 began periodically secreting an anomalous corrosive substance, now designated SCP-4878-3, from its exterior shell. All recorded secretion events have taken place approximately 2 weeks apart, but a definite pattern has not been established at this time. SCP-4878-3 appears similar in coloration to SCP-4878’s exterior and displays self-propulsive capabilities. SCP-4878-3 flows radially outwards from SCP-4878 at approximately 0.24m/s upon secretion and actively deconstructs objects that it makes direct physical contact with. This process occurs at a rate of approximately 0.1m3/s, varying slightly with relation to object density. The mass of deconstructed objects is incorporated into that of SCP-4878-3, increasing its size and therefore rate of expansion. SCP-4878-3 does not actively expand downwards, although it will flow through trenches and holes in its path. SCP-4878-3 is vulnerable to temperatures exceeding 1200K, and will be permanently destroyed on exposure.
