SCP-XXXX
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be sealed in a plexiglass container Site-76. Tests involving SCP-XXXX is to be limited to one subject at a time and will only be coordinated by personnel with security clearance of Level 2 or above. SCP-XXXX will only be read by a subject fitting within the parameters of its anomalous properties. Testing procedures will not be conducted without the approval of Dr. Prodri.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a book wrapped in leather binding with 89 pages, all of which are blank. According to radiometric dating, SCP-XXXX is approximately 1880 years old. Despite this, it is shows no sign of age or wear. When an individual interacts with the first page of SCP-XXXX, one of two different phrases will be presented to the subject:
Phrase One:
"Only those who share the sacred blood of the emperor may read these pages. Thou shall suffer as the emperor did."
Phrase Two:
"Welcome, scion. Thou shall now read the history that was hidden from the light. The history of your ancestor."
Upon viewing the first phrase, an individual will begin to suffer from severe clinical depression, rating between 24 to 27 on the PHQ-9 test1 regardless of their emotional state prior to the event. The individual will also begin to experience symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, complaining of the 'horrors of Judea.' Upon reading the second phrase, the individual will be able to view the full contents of SCP-XXXX.
All text within SCP-XXXX is written in Latin, however, the individual will still be able to read SCP-XXXX regardless of their native language and/or their ability to understand Latin. Only individuals who can fully understand Latin text are able to read SCP-XXXX verbally. The only method of translation is via audio recordings. However, upon playback, the subject's voice will sound distorted. Video recording of any reading will result in the pages being observed as blank.
SCP-XXXX details the Roman emperor Aelius Hadrianus Severlinus, who reigned as an emperor of the Roman Empire from 130 AD to 138 AD. Emperor Severlinus's history is not recorded in any other text or historical document besides SCP-XXXX, with his supposed command falling within the later years of emperor Hadrian's reign. The recorded anomalous activity during the Bar Kokhba Revolt, as well as other anomalous events during these years, are also within Foundation databases. Hadrian, however, is still recorded as the emperor during these events.
SCP-XXXX was discovered after an Italian archaeological team from the Sapienza University of Rome explored a previously unrecorded chamber underneath Rome. SCP-XXXX was found on a pedestal in a pristine condition. One of the team members opened SCP-XXXX, while other team members observed. SCP-XXXX's anomalous effect then activated, causing most of the team to suffer from severe depression and post-traumatic stress disorder within a few hours. One of the original team members did not experience any of SCP-XXXX's effects and swiftly reported his discovery to government officials. Suspecting anomalous activity may be involved, the Italian government contacted the Foundation whereupon it was swiftly secured and transferred to Site-76.
Addendum.1 - Incident XXXX.4.17: On 17/4/20██, Doctor Prodri opened SCP-XXXX believing that his Italian ancestry and family linkage to Dark Age Italy could allow him to access SCP-XXXX's contents. Doctor Prodri opened SCP-XXXX and began reading until he was apprehended by on-site security. Doctor Prodri was temporarily relieved of his duties and was watched closely under house arrest. During the following days, Dr. Prodri did not show signs of any anomalous effects by SCP-XXXX. He was cleared of SCP-XXXX's effects, and he was allowed to view SCP-XXXX under video observation. After opening to the first page, Dr. Prodri began to read SCP-XXXX without interruption. The test was concluded after it became clear that Dr. Prodri could not verbally read SCP-XXXX.
Believing his DNA could be the reason as to why Dr. Prodri was able to read SCP-XXXX, samples were collected and the Foundation began to search for other individuals who could potentially read SCP-XXXX. Within a few days, nine other individuals samples were found to have matched Dr. Prodri's DNA. These nine individuals were invited to a museum tour, where SCP-XXXX was displayed in a closed-off section of the museum, where each individual read SCP-XXXX's first page one at a time. Five experienced the first variation of SCP-XXXX and were given Class-A amnestics. The remaining individuals were able to read SCP-XXXX's contents. These four subjects had their DNA samples taken from drinking cups they used during the tour and were given amnestics.
As a result of Incident XXXX.4.17, the Foundation has greatly narrowed who is able to view SCP-XXXX contents based on shared genetic qualities. Because of this, an estimated 1.5 million potential readers exist in the world.
Addendum.2 - Page excerpts: The following are excerpts from various pages of SCP-XXXX. Only major variations between the actions of Severlinus and Hadrian are transcribed and presented. SCP-XXXX itself can be divided into three different sections:
First Section: Pages 1-9
Description: Early life and eventual coronation of Severlinus
Second section: Pages 10-55
Description: First years of Severlinus's reign towards the end of the Bar Kokhba Revolt.
Third section: Pages 56-88
Description: Final years of Severlinus's reign and death.
Excerpt from page one
It is here that I record the reign and death of Imperator Caeser Hadrianus Severlinus Augustus, whose reign began 883 Ab urbe condita2 and lasted a glorious eight years. It will be here, and only here, that his excellence is deified. His reign brought great prosperity to the empire and its people but also brought him to madness. His actions were guided by fate, as commanded by Jupiter himself. Come, scion, and learn of your forebearers feats and victories, as well as his fall from grace.
Excerpt from page nine
During Imperator Caesar Trajanus Hadrianus Augustus's voyage up the River Nile, much of his flotilla sank and drowned. An inquiry into this event has led many to come to the conclusion that a sudden flood killed the late emperor, his beloved Antinous, and many who accompanied them. Locals who witnessed the event believe it was the influence of Suchus as means of protecting the River Nile.3 Upon word of the tragedy reaching Rome, Severlinus was struck with immense grief. The late emperor had been his father, his teacher, and mentor. Words can not describe the number of tears that were shed that day. Regardless, it was now time for your forebearer to take the crown. After the Senate was told of Hadrian's death, which was received of mixed opinion, your forebearer was officially crowned as the new emperor of the empire.
Excerpt from page seventeen
Severlinus then traveled to Athens a few months later, where he had hoped to uphold his father's ambitions. He had hoped to finally realize his father's Panhellenion as a means of culturally uniting the Greek city-states and Rome. As a gift to the Athenians, as well as completing another one of his father's dreams, he finished the construction of the Temple of Olympian Zeus. Underneath the temple, he had buried Trajan's artifact as a means of passively subjugating the Athenians.4 By giving the Athenians more luxuries, Severlinus had gained their trust and admiration. These feelings were reciprocated, as Severlinus would walk among the Athenians in the streets with little to no guard. Upon his departure for the east, he was sent off warmly by the people.
Excerpt from page twenty-seven
During his visit to Palmyra, Severlinus first heard of the artifact from a woman claiming to be a traveling Vates. It was here that his curiosity and hubris led him further down the stairs of fate. Intrigued, he pleaded the woman for answers. She told him of the powers it could give, and the horrors it could bring. In great detail, she explained its mastery over the flesh of others, sickening those around Severlinus. But not him. He had heard of the ancient myths and legends of a people who could manipulate flesh and bone. If such a power existed, no matter how savage it could be, Severlinus sought to tame it. Upon learning the location of the artifact, he and his troop moved south towards Judea.
Excerpt from page thirty-one
While in Judea, Severlinus sought to rebuild Jerusalem after years of destruction and war. He not only intended this to be a gift to the Jews but also hoped that the rabbis would lead him to the artifact he so desperately craved. Upon his arrival, he learned more about Jewish culture from a local Samaritan priest. Learning that the Jews openly circumcise their young, Severlinus was disgusted. A Hellenist like his father believed such an act was mutilation. He then enacted a decree within the city, announcing that circumcision was banned throughout the empire. This was met with much dissatisfaction, and the anti-Roman sentiment that lingered within the Jews had grown even more significant. This angered Severlinus, who then enacted many other anti-Jewish decrees. This would pave the way to war, sending your forefather even closer to his fate.
Excerpt from page thirty-five
Even as I write this, it is still unknown how the Jews found the artifact first. While our legionaries searched throughout Judea, one of the Jews found it. This Jew, Simon bar Kokhba, would utilize the artifact's immense power to gather followers to his cause. He utilized the artifact to 'bless' his soldiers and followers.5 As bar Kokhba marched on Jerusalem, he demanded that every single Roman within Judea leave immediately. Severlinus, no longer fond of the Jews, took this a declaration of war and had Tineius Rufus send two legions to crush the rebellion. They were met with utter annihilation with few survivors. The command bar Kokhba had on the artifact was masterful, leading his armies against Rome with skill. This only further spurred Severlinus's hate for the Jews, resolving to destroy bar Kokhba. He came to believe that his destiny was here in Judea, not in Greece. Oh scion, how right he was.
Excerpt from page forty
Severlinus had summoned several more legions and called Sextus Julius Severus from Britain to face bar Kokhba. In spite of the largest gathering of legions since the wars in Dacia, bar Kokhba still raised above Severlinus's pressure. Your forebearer became desperate, destroying the Jewish armies against him became the sole thing he thought about for the next year. He and Severus met bar Kokhba's forces outside of Jericho, where he witnessed for the first time the artifact's effects.
Seeing the mutation of bodies and frenzied fighting from the Jewish armies made Severlinus sick. Despite our best efforts, the legions were once again defeated at the hands of bar Kokhba's armies. Severlinus no longer wanted to capture the artifact, rather he wished to destroy it by whatever means. After regrouping in Samaria, Severus informed Severlinus of his own artifact from Britain. A sword that could be used to combat bar Kokhba's. Desperate, your forebearer had it brought to him.
Excerpt from page forty-four
Severus's sword proved to be the dagger. Bar Kokhba and his forces were on their knees, retreating to their final fortress in Betar. It would be here that the artifact's effect would finally take shape on bar Kokhba's men. They were now nothing more than prisoners in their own flesh, which only further disgusted Severlinus. His resolve to destroy bar Kokhba and his artifact only deepened. Despite their situation, the Jews still fought with frenzy and vigor.
Our legions could not break the walls of Betar, despite our best efforts. It would be here that your forefather resigned himself to fate. He stepped onto the front line in the last summer of the siege and charged at the walls. The legionaries saw this as a rallying cry, that if the emperor was as bold so should they. Only those closest to Severlinus knew the truth. He had become just as desperate, crazed, and manic as the Jews in front of them. He then broke the walls, and the massacre began.
Excerpt from page fifty-six
Finally, Severlinus returned to Rome. Word of his feats in Judea had already reached the greater population, who praised him as a hero. He had quashed the rebellion, renamed Jerusalem Aelia Capitolina, and decreed that Judea be erased from every map. Those closest to him knew the truth, however. His mind and body were broken. He had lost dear comrades and friends, including Severus, in the war. He was successful at destroying bar Kokhba and the artifact, but at what cost scion? He lost nearly everything he held dear to him. He didn't greet the senate with the customary salutation, he knew he wasn't worthy of doing so. The war effectively ended your forebearer's aspirations to realize his father's dreams. It had made him a recluse, yet he still held tightly onto Severus's sword.
Excerpt from page sixty-one
When his mother, empress Sabina, died Severlinus only further slipped into depression. He had been stopped numerous times from committing suicide. He had no heir, his travels left him childless. His current state of mind did not allow him to think of even adopting an heir. Many around him became frightened by the prospect of him dying with no heir designated to fulfill the office of emperor. That was until he met Lucius Aelius. Severlinus immediately became infatuated with him and sought him out on numerous occasions. The two would be seen together many times before eventually Severlinus named him his son and by extension his heir. Despite his newfound invigoration, your forebearer would still have bouts of madness all while keeping hold of Severus's sword.
Excerpt from page seventy-three
It happened suddenly. Lucius Aelius's death greatly impacted Severlinus, sending him into a deeper depression. He would always have two people around at all times, for if he ended his life the office of the emperor would be left vacant with no successor. As he sat alone, Severus's sword in hand, one of his consuls approached him. The consul, Arrius Antoninus, began to comfort him. At first ineffective, the consul eventually made a connection with your forebearer. The two talked for a long while, throughout the night. The next morning Severlinus announced to the senate that he had adopted the consul, with the condition that he adopt the son of the recently deceased Lucius Aelius. There was a sigh of relief among the senators, for the office was once again secure. Despite having made a connection with Severlinus, the consul could not pry Severus's sword from him.
Excerpt from page eighty-seven
It had finally happened. The sword that Severlinus had grown attached to brought him to madness. The object he had long used as a comforter, a precaution for the day should bar Kokhba's artifact rear its face again, had turned on him. He interrupted the consul's dinner with his attendants, Severus's sword in hand. He swung it wildly and with frenzy. The consul's wife shrieked as Severlinus approached them. The consul grabbed his blade and begged your forebearer to stand down.
He was beyond reason and swung at the consul. Then, the consul cut his neck. Can you blame him, scion? As Severlinus fell, the consul caught him in his arms. Letting go of Severus's sword for the first time, Severlinus asked the consul if he had made his father proud. With tears in his eyes, the consul comforted him by saying he had. With life leaving him, Severlinus made the consul promise to deify his father. And with that, your forebearer died experiencing peace for the first time in years.
Excerpt from page eighty-nine
Upon his ascension Antoninus Pius saw to it that Hadrian was deified, fulfilling Severlinus's final wish. Not wanting anyone else to experience the sadness and madness that Severlinus felt, he was to be hidden from history. Severus's sword was melted down and buried. Due to his remarkable likeness to his father, the people were made to believe that Severlinus was indeed Hadrian. Any record and document saying otherwise were destroyed. That is why I have recorded all of this. Your forebearer would have been lost, if not for me.
I, son of Aelius Hadrianus Severlinus, will see to it that he been seen by future generations. I was there for it all, experienced what he experienced, and rightful occupant to the office of the emperor. I fear that if Antoninus Pius finds this book, he will destroy it. I will see to it that the Vates harness the emotions my father felt moments before his death, and curse those that attempt to read the book. Only my future sons and daughters may view these texts without repercussions. If you are reading this somewhere in the future, even if the empire has fallen, I plead that you hide this book until the time is right. Ensure that my father deserves his place in the sun. Please, let him see the light of day once more.
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX's movement along the River Nile is to be tracked by MTF Lambda-9 ("Osiris's Hand"). Any significant deviation from SCP-XXXX's normal pathing is to be reported to Site-95 director William Orville. In the event that SCP-XXXX becomes hostile, civilian evacuation of the region is to be carried out in coordination with the Egyptian, Sudanese6, South Sudanese, Ethiopian, and Ugandan governments. News outlets will be led to believe that the evacuation was caused by significant flooding of the Nile River and its drainage basin. Any attempt to remove or neutralize SCP-XXXX, regardless of operational success, may result in catastrophic consequences for the region.7
Any and all reports of SCP-XXXX by civilian witnesses to news outlets are to be discredited. All civilians and reporters involved with said sightings are to be given Class-A amnestics.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a sapient male Crocodylus niloticus8. It measures 9.15 meters and weighs approximately 4,250 kilograms. Despite its immense size, sightings of SCP-XXXX by the public are minimal and are only reported from small villages. SCP-XXXX's age is unknown, but it is believed to be at least 200,000 years old. SCP-XXXX's primary anomaly is its control over the climate of the Nile River and its tributaries. Its control ranges from bringing in dry seasons and floods to changing the river's course and expanding its drainage basin. SCP-XXXX refers to itself as the protector and guide of the Nile. SCP-XXXX claims to have interacted with the inhabitants of the region from the early dynastic period of Egypt until the middle ages.
The Foundation became aware of SCP-XXXX's existence when the United Kingdom began to construct dams across the Nile in the early 1900s. SCP-XXXX would actively hamper, damage, or destroy these dams. After years of ineffective attempts at capturing SCP-XXXX, the British government handed responsibility to The Foundation. All containment attempts were abandoned after ██-██-1956 when SCP-XXXX was removed from the Nile River, which resulted in the flooding of the local area and all nearby plant life to decay. The area where this event happened has been sectioned off from the public and is now where Site-95 resides.
Addendum.1 - Interviews After the events of ██-██-1956, SCP-XXXX avoided all attempts at contact by Foundation personnel. In order to monitor the location of SCP-XXXX, several observation posts were constructed along the Nile River and its tributaries. Researcher Hanesworth, who headed the SCP-XXXX project, then proposed leaving food for it in areas it frequented to gain its trust and cooperation. Site Director Orville approved the proposition, provided Hanesworth himself placed the food with two members of Mobile Task Force Lambda-9 "Osiris's Hand".
Hanesworth approached the riverbed with carcasses of animals from the region every day. Initially, all attempts failed as SCP-XXXX would not approach the food until researcher Hanesworth left the area. Hanesworth insisted that the guards leave so that SCP-XXXX would approach. After several attempts, SCP-XXXX allowed Hanesworth to approach closer. Starting on 05-27-1997, SCP-XXXX would allow Hanesworth to stay next to the food as it fed.
Interviewed: SCP-XXXX
Interviewer: Researcher Hanesworth
Foreword: Researcher Hanesworth had left a deceased Syncerus caffer9 on a riverbed SCP-XXXX frequents. After 15 minutes, SCP-XXXX appeared out of the river and began consuming the carcass. Hanesworth had a hidden recorder on his person, in the event that SCP-XXXX could communicate.
<Begin Log>
(The sounds of cracking bones and flesh ripping are heard in the background)
Researcher Hanesworth: Can… Can you understand me?
SCP-XXXX: (bellows and turns towards Hanesworth)
Researcher Hanesworth: Oh, shit!
SCP-XXXX: Calm down human, I won't feast upon you. I do not hunt your kind anyway.
Researcher Hanesworth: You.. you can talk. I-I mean um, why did you let me get closer to you?
SCP-XXXX: Why indeed. (turns back towards the carcass and continues to eat)
Researcher Hanesworth: Do… do you mind explaining your control over the Nile?
SCP-XXXX: (stops eating and turns towards Hanesworth) It is but an extension of myself. I control the river's flow and in return, it gives me life.
Researcher Hanesworth: So, would you say that your containment would detriment the region?
SCP-XXXX: Is that what your leaders tried to do to me? To 'contain' me?
Researcher Hanesworth: Well… yeah. It's sort of our deal. We contain anomalies and research them for the safety of mankind.
SCP-XXXX: And by attempting to reach this goal, how many have died in the name of safety?
Researcher Hanesworth: We've crossed some lines, yes, but you must understand that we only have the best interests in mind.
SCP-XXXX: Those interests only further the goals of your superiors. If you were to 'contain' me, this river and all that it flows into would dry up.
Researcher Hanesworth: But if people were to see you-
SCP-XXXX: Have they thus far?
Researcher Hanesworth: Well no, but that's because we've suppressed all reports.
SCP-XXXX: Then there is nothing more to discuss nor worry about.
There was a minute of silence recorded as SCP-XXXX continued to feed upon the carcass.
L9 Beta-2: (in the background) Hey doc, you doin' alright!?
SCP-XXXX: That would be our time. Tell me, what is your name?
Researcher Hanesworth: My name? It's uh, Hanesworth.
SCP-XXXX: I hope to speak to you again, Hanesworth.
<End Log>
Closing Statement: Before Lambda-9 Beta could arrive, SCP-XXXX dragged the carcass into the river and disappeared. For the next few days, no contact could be established with SCP-XXXX and Researcher Hanesworth suggested that his guards not be within visual range of the river bank. A compromise was reached where every 30 minutes they would do a check-in before returning to the vehicle just outside of visual range.
Interviewed: SCP-XXXX
Interviewer: Researcher Hanesworth
Foreword: Contact was successfully established after the second attempt of the new procedure. This interview occurred shortly after the third check-in by Research Hanesworth's armed guards. He activated a transmission shortly after contact with SCP-XXXX to let his guards know he had done so. This time Hanesworth brought a hidden camera on his person to record this interview.
<Begin Log>
(Sounds of the camera being activated can be heard before it is turned on)
Researcher Hanesworth: So… you finally showed up.
SCP-XXXX: My apologies, but I would rather communicate in private.
Researcher Hanesworth: Well we're not entirely alone. (Hanesworth gestures behind them over the riverbank)
SCP-XXXX: I had a feeling that was the case. Your people appear to be… very untrustworthy.
Researcher Hanesworth: They are, but so are you. But that begs the question, why do you trust me?
SCP-XXXX: You misunderstand, Hanesworth. I don't trust you. Not yet anyway. But I see myself as a decent judge of character, and you don't seem to be a bad person.
Researcher Hanesworth: Then why did you come back?
SCP-XXXX: You remind me of someone I used to know.
Researcher Hanesworth: What were they like? If you don't mind my asking.
SCP-XXXX: It is a… long story.
Researcher Hanesworth: You can't just give me that. Just the details will suffice.
SCP-XXXX: He was a Roman boy. Much like yourself he would come to the riverside and feed me, although it was with lesser portions than what you give me.
Researcher Hanesworth: Whoa wait, Roman? How old are you exactly?
SCP-XXXX: Old enough to have seen this region turn from green to sand numerous times, older than your entire species. Now, will you let me continue?
Researcher Hanesworth: Yes, I'm sorry. Please continue with your tale.
SCP-XXXX: This boy and his family were farmers, but were pressured by local soldiers to give a significant portion of their crops and meat to them. I asked if he would like my assistance, but he declined. He was a stubborn, yet compassionate, young boy.
Researcher Hanesworth: What happened to them?
SCP-XXXX: I was waiting for the boy when I saw the smoke. By the time I arrived the farm had nearly burned down. I desperately looked for the boy and his family. It was too late… he was huddling the livestock and covered in gashes, bruises, and burns. He was barely conscious. I tried to save him but… he gently touched my jaw and smiled.
Researcher Hanesworth: I'm… I'm so sorry…
SCP-XXXX: Don't be, this happened well over a thousand years ago. I'm sure that even with the miracles your people can perform, nothing could save him. But it still hurts, you know.
Researcher Hanesworth: I know how you feel. When you work a job like this you need to get used to not seeing your friends the next day. And it's always the people you care about too…
SCP-XXXX: Grief is shared among all beings. I am sorry for your losses.
Researcher Hanesworth: You know SCP-XXXX, I think that-
SCP-XXXX: SCP-XXXX? What is that?
Researcher Hanesworth: Oh, uh, that's what me and my superiors call you. Consider it a tag.
SCP-XXXX: Given I'm such a high number, that must mean there are more of these 'SCP's'. (bellows in a laughing manner) Well between us you can call me by the name given to me by your kind some few thousand years ago.
Researcher Hanesworth: And what would that name be?
SCP-XXXX: Oh, my apologies! Long ago, they called me Sobek.
Researcher Hanesworth: Woah! Like the deity?
SCP-XXXX: I suppose, although I've never considered myself one.
(Hanesworth's guards can be heard calling for him in the background)
Researcher Hanesworth: Damn it, has it been an hour already?
SCP-XXXX: It would appear we've been interrupted again. I did enjoy our chat.
Researcher Hanesworth: You don't need to leave, I can convince them to leave us alone.
SCP-XXXX: I have matters to attend to anyhow.
Researcher Hanesworth: But what about the food?
SCP-XXXX: Leave it for the others. But you'll no longer need it to converse with me. Take care Hanesworth.
<End Log>
Closing Statement: After this interview, researcher Hanesworth requested that the armed guards do not come to him unless he calls for them. Given SCP-XXXX's behavior towards Hanesworth, this request was granted. Researcher Hanesworth and SCP-XXXX would meet frequently for the remainder of 1997. The frequency of these meetings, as well as the growing relationship between Hanesworth and SCP-XXXX, prompted an internal investigation into Researcher Hanesworth's conduct.
The investigation concluded on 02-05-1998 and found that Hanesworth was fraternizing with an anomalous entity, and was subsequently reprimanded. Hanesworth was removed from his position but was allowed to continue to interview SCP-XXXX once a month under close supervision. Subsequent interviews offered significantly more insight into SCP-XXXX.
Addendum.2 - Incident-XXXX: On 07-13-20██ Lake Kyoga's waterline significantly diminished, extending the shoreline by nearly a kilometer. This caused significant flooding across much of the Nile River and its tributaries. Determining SCP-XXXX to be the cause, MTF Lambda-9 "Osiris's Hand" and MTF Epsilon-6 "Village Idiots" were deployed to all affected areas. Disguised as UN Peacekeepers and members of the Red Cross, both task forces evacuated civilians in the area.
MTF Lambda-9 scanned the area of Lake Kyoga in search of SCP-XXXX. On 07-15-20██ a small team accompanied by Senior Researcher Hanesworth located SCP-XXXX on a shoreline near Bukungu. The following was recorded on L9 Alpha-1's helmet-mounted camera.
<Begin Log>
(Sounds of the audio capture being turned on can be heard. Image capture shows SCP-XXXX laying on a riverbank, showing moderate injuries, resting. Senior researcher Hanesworth can be seen running towards SCP-XXXX.)
L9 Alpha-1: Hanesworth calm yourself! It could be hostile!
Hanesworth: Can it! It could be worse than it looks!
Alpha-1: Sir, even if that were the case, we need to report this to command.
Hanesworth: Even so, he needs treatment now!
(L9 Alpha-1 looks around to his other squad members. After some hesitation, he points towards Alpha-3 and Alpha-5)
L9 Alpha01: Three, call in for medical! Five come with me to help this thing!
(Alpha-1 and Alpha-5 run towards Hanesworth and SCP-XXXX, and begin to apply medical aid. Hanesworth can be seen near SCP-XXXX's head comforting it.)
Hanesworth: It'll be alright, you'll be given good care.
SCP-XXXX: Then what, will they 'contain' me like the rest?
Hanesworth: They couldn't even if they wanted. It's way less of a risk for them to let you be.
(there is silence for next few seconds as Alpha-1 and 5 continue medical aid.)
Hanesworth: What happened here…?
SCP-XXXX: She was attempting to abuse the river. I had to put an end to it.
Hanesworth: Whoever it was, we could have helped you.
SCP-XXXX: I appreciate your concern, but the responsibility is mine and mine alone.
Hanesworth: This is exactly what I was worried about! What if you need to be in two places at once? You've already admitted that times are changing. Just say the word…
(SCP-XXXX bellows, startling Alpha-1 and 5.)
SCP-XXXX: I will consider. Return to the normal shoreline, the lake will fill in soon.
(Alpha-1 then looks over SCP-XXXX's back, and notices the waterline beginning to slowly rise and turns towards Hanesworth.)
Alpha-1: Sir, we need to leave. By the time medical comes, we'll be underwater.
Hanesworth: He needs treatment!
SCP-XXXX: I'll be fine my friend. This isn't my first encounter with her, and it won't be the last. Now go.
(Alpha-1 and 5 finish their medical treatment and begin to pull away Hanesworth as the water approaches their feet. Hanesworth initially resists but is eventually coerced by Alpha-5. Alpha-1 orders the team to return to the vehicle. Alpha-1 turns back as they approach the vehicle and watch the water rise above SCP-XXXX and quicken its rise. Alpha-1 enters the vehicle and it drives away from the waterline. The audio and visual feed is cut off moments later by Alpha-1.)
<End Log>
Report on Incident-XXXX:
From our intelligence, Incident-XXXX began as an unknown entity, described as having the head of a crocodile and the body of a lion and hippopotamus10, attempted to alter the entire Laky Kyoga area. SCP-XXXX noticed this change due to its anomalous properties and headed towards the area. The subsequent drainage of Lake Kyoga was seemingly an attempt by SCP-XXXX to stall and subvert the entity's progress. The flooding of other areas is seen as a side effect of this action. Eyewitness reports indicate that SCP-XXXX and the unknown entity had been locked in combat for a few hours before Foundation personnel arrived. By the time Foundation forces arrived and secured the area, the unknown entity was not seen nor encountered.
Class-A and Class-B amnestics were administered to the local population, and news outlets were led to believe the drainage and flooding were natural events. The actions of Senior Researcher Hanesworth and L9 Alpha were under review by the ethics committee. Yesterday they announced their actions of giving medical aid to an anomalous entity were justified, given the circumstances. Currently, SCP-XXXX movements have returned to normal but a second Site may be needed in order to cover the vast range of SCP-XXXX's influence.
In conclusion, if it were not for SCP-XXXX's actions the Foundation would have been faced with a Broken Veil scenario. Given its apparent nature, as well as the interaction with one of our senior staff, SCP-XXXX appears to be benevolent and nonhostile. So long as no harm is done to Senior Researcher Hanesworth and contact between the two stays steady, we should not have to fear SCP-XXXX turning hostile to the Foundation.
- Site-95 Director William Orville
Addendum.3 - Hanesworth's Journal: The following addendum contains an entry from Hanesworth's journal that document's a previously unknown encounter he had with SCP-XXXX. The entry is believed to be written prior to Incident-XXXX.
Journal Entry #52
Today I met with Sobek. It had been a while since I had seen him. We hadn't had a chance to see each other as often as we used to since the O5 stuck their noses in. It was the middle of the night when I found Sobek again. It's not that hard to spot him, but damn does he look intimidating. When I approached he turned his head toward me, and at first, he didn't recognize me. Once I made him aware of my identity he seemed to relax a little and gestured me to move closer. After I sat near him, it was silent for a while. I finally broke it when I asked him 'what was it like being treated like a god?' A silly question for sure, but my curiosity had piqued its interest.
He simply laughed and said that he never experienced it personally. His actions throughout the river were what caused him to be worshipped, not so much because he sought it. I then asked him 'then why do you call yourself Sobek?' He stated that it was the name they gave him, and he never had a name to address himself as before. Sobek said that since so many people were praying to him, the least he could do was accept the name. I wondered if the other Egyptian gods were real, to which he responded that he wasn't sure. He acknowledged the possibility of them existing, but he stated that he never met them.
For a while, we just stared at the moon. We talked about many things. We talked about politics, history, biology, and even sports. We enlightened each other on so many things. After witnessing Sobek's wiseness and intelligence, a part of me began to think he really was a god. Then he told me of his concerns. With the world evolving, the number of threats was increasing. If there were two crises at once, he would have to leave one to suffer for longer than the other. I told him that the Foundation could help. We have plenty of assets not being used right now. He thanked me for my generosity but said that the river was his responsibility alone.
I said that if he kept thinking like that, he would get lonely. Sobek stated that he already felt alone. After he met humanity, after guiding us out of Africa, he felt like he could change. But after that boy died he realized that he would outlive everyone he made friends with. His own kind feared him, even those that prayed to him every day held a degree of fear. Instead, he said, he would protect the region and guarantee the lives of future generations. I then asked him if we were friends. He laid there silently before answering we could be, but only if I recognized that we couldn't be for long. I said that didn't matter, and that if anything I wanted to be friends.
I've never seen an SCP, let alone a giant crocodile, cry before. I didn't know how to hug something that big, but I think I did a pretty good job. We sat there for a while longer before he suddenly turned his head downriver and began to hiss. I asked what was wrong, and he said something is troubling the source. Before he left he said his goodbyes and said we would meet soon. As he disappeared beneath the surface of the water I began to worry that we wouldn't reunite, and if we did, it wouldn't be a happy reunion.

There is this town on top of a gorge. The area above is a bustling, normal town. However, the gorge hides something deep below. When miners reached what they hope to be riches, instead uncovered a pinkish/black substance. As they dug deeper the area began to tremble. After multiple miners lost their lives, and reports of strange red/black wisps began to come out of the gorge the Foundation became involved. Geographic data/measurements found the local area to be unnatural. Eventually, they discovered a massive entity buried beneath the gorge and town. The substance the miners found was its brain and the wisps seemed to be an effect caused by it being disturbed.
The way this article will be presented will be via two differently seen articles. Once listing the gorge as a Euclid class SCP due to the unpredictability of the wisps as well as the location. However, upon the discovery of the creature a second, higher clearance, the document will be presented below showing the SCP as Keter/Apollyon.
Inspired by this weird thing that happened when I woke up the other day. When I began to wake up I saw what appeared to be an old internet chatroom. A bunch of short one to five-word messages in very basic English were being sent rapidly in succession. Random topics were discussed in just seconds before moving onto the next. Then, as I woke up, all of the "users" sent 'WELCOME ADMIN'. When I sat up from bed I thought well damn that was weird and thought about its potential as an SCP.
I think this has a chance to become a solid idea. Basically, I want whatever these things are to be the ones in charge of you when you sleep, the things that cause you to dream, and showcase that they have a rudimentary society. While they can't communicate to things outside while "we" are in control, they are aware that other people have "their kind." I plan to imply that these things are actually your Neurons and that's why they are rapidly speaking to each other and whenever you wake up they all go "WELCOME ADMIN."
Had a thought about this one as I was reliving some memories about the 2016 World Series. What if whenever the Cubs win the world series, some catastrophic happens somewhere in the world. Upon a quick search when the Cubs won in 1907 and 1908, shortly afterward a mining disaster (involving 239 and 154 deaths respectively) occurred within a month following the Cub's victory. If that trend continued in 2016 then it would be easier, but I guess mining disasters aren't the rage right now. The worst event to happen after the Cub's victory in 2016 was the Chapecoense Tragedy and the Russian Tupolev Tu-154 crash.
I have decided that for the 1908 event I will use Tunguska. The explanation is that sometime after the Cubs win the world series the Foundation is able to use a temporal anomaly to stop a large meteor that manifested as a result of the Chicago Cubs victory. It is sent a few months back in time, which resulted in its size decreasing, and impacts Siberia in June of 1908. As for the 1907 and the 2016 events I am still not sure how to do them. I am most likely going to make 2016 an event that was able to be averted, while 2017 maybe be a series of disasters for 1907.
Bottom line the ground rules should be that the disaster happens between when the Cubs win to the end of the year, that the Foundation picked up on it early on (shortly the 1908 incident) and that between 1908 to 1946 this SCP was classified as Keter but reclassified as Safe after the Cub's prolonged absence in the World Series. Containment protocols ramped up again periodically (namely in the mid-late 80s, mid-2000s, and currently starting in 2015). The SCP was reclassified to Keter in 2016.
Special Containment Procedures: Store it in a simple locker or container.
Description: A 200~ page academic research paper on the history and general nature of the SCP Foundation.
Addendum.1: Insert some SCP's and excerpts here in addendums.
A future case study on the SCP Foundation that is discovered by the Foundation via a temporal anomaly. The case study implies that the SCP Foundation no longer exists, as well as any successor organizations or alternate analogs.
