Item Number: SCP-7091
Object Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures: Foundation personnel embedded in governments, NGOs, Astronomical Societies, and any other organisation with access to advanced space searching telescopes must make every effort to direct the attention of these telescopes away from SCP-7091.
At all times, at least one Foundation owned space searching telescope must maintain visual on SCP-7091.
As of 04/06/2020 procedure 7791-D (SINK THE EPIMETHEUS) has been suspended. New procedure pending.
Description: SCP-7091 is an artificial stellar object. Dimensions are; 409 meters long, 172 meters wide, 131 meters high. Object is largely rectangular with a widening rear and a front section with an inwards ballistics curve. Surface of the object is irregular, broken by directional armoured copulas, antennae, heat-sink surfaces, and several clearly visible armoured covers - presumed to hide sensitive equipment and weapons systems. At the front of the vessel a large lens is visible, analysis shows that this is a telescope several times more massive than the largest astronomical telescopes ever launched. The rear of the vessel ends in a large drive cone, emissions analysis indicates a Fusion-based propulsion system.
SCP-7091 has an inscription on its frontal plate with accompanying artwork. Text is distantly reminiscent of ancient greek lettering, and artwork depicts a largely naked muscular man holding a small wooden box. Through analysis, it is presumed the text translates to 'EPIMETHEUS', Ie. The Mythological Titan brother of Prometheus.
Sections of SCP-7091 explored in incident 7091-1-7791-D were fit for human habitation. Corridors were typically 3.71 meters in diameter and appeared to be constructed of steel and other traditional materials. All walls were padded. Several humanoid instances were found crewing SCP-7091, henceforth SCP-7091-A. SCP-7091-A appear for all intents to be human, and seem to follow a military-style hierarchy.
Addendum:
Meeting Transcript - 3/04/2020 - Decision to use procedure 7791-D
"How long until the telescopes see it?"
"Three days, sir."
"Are you sure there's no way to change the telescope schedule?"
"No sir- not without violence. They've already started the live stream, so if we send in a strike team, it'll be hell to clean up the mess. Also. The Americans won't let us do anything unless we tell them why."
"I need options, Jenkins. Options. Not bad news. Who even watches a live stream of telescope data!"
"Some three thousand people, sir. We have three options."
"Your career is on this, Jenkins."
"Yes sir." [Pause, 2 seconds. Agent Jenkins takes a sip of water.] "We could amnesticize all three thousand people, and accept the government fallout. It would be a major undertaking, and the risk of a broken masquerade scenario is present, but it is not impossible."
"So there are two options. Next."
"… Yes sir. We could deploy MTF ढ-3's special unit, MTF ढ-3-1, 'Space Marines'. If we were to board and move SCP-7791, we could move it out of the telescopes view path. Worst case, with explosives, it could probably survive a few C4 detonations."
"Could they make it in time?"
"Yes sir. The refits on the space shuttle Columbia have been finished, we could have a thirty man team, exclusive pilots, there 13 hours before the telescope. If you give the order now."
"Option three?"
"Pretend it was a practical joke."
"There was only one option this whole time. Don't waste my time- Jenkins."
"It might really work, sir."
"Might is not good enough when we're talking about a broken masquerade scenario. Action option two, and if it doesn't work, we'll just have to blow up the telescope and say there was a 'sudden and unforeseen technical failure'."
"Yes sir."
LOG ENDS
Footage begins to transmit from all team members space suit mounted cameras and shuttles external camera. Space shuttle COLUMBIA has been commandeered by the Foundation as of its seizing in 2003 for Foundation OTF use.
TEAM LEADER: "HQ, are you receiving us?"
HEADQUARTERS: "We are receiving you loud and clear team. Communications delay is roughly 1.25 seconds."
TL: "We're approaching the object now-"
PILOT: "Hey- do you see that! One of the armour plates just opened. Zoom- It's a gun. HQ, There's a gun pointed at us, looks like an autocannon, maybe 20 or 30 millimetre diameter."
HQ: "Is it targeting you?"
P: "Yes, I think so. They aren't firing."
HQ Receives video footage of a 20mm cannon, analysis determines it likely serves a point defense role. Weapon was previously hidden behind an armour plate, video analysis determines plate to be ~120mm thick.
HQ: "Continue to advance, team. We need this done, you know the motto. Ready spacesuits."
TL: "Yes-sir."
Cannon does not engage COLUMBIA, and COLUMBIA is able to safely dock with a structure reminiscent of an airlock. Airlock opens without interference from the team - team moves to airlock inside.
TL: "HQ, Can you still hear us?"
HQ: "Yes. Please advance into the SCP."
TL: "Confirming, the airlock just shut my team in. We're getting air- suit says it's breathable."
HQ: "Do not take off your suits."
TL: "Yes HQ- the doors opening."
Footage shows the airlock door open. Two humans are waiting, one male and one female, without clear anomalous traits. Subjects are wearing navy-blue uniforms faintly reminiscent of early 20th century naval uniforms. Uniforms have a plastic-like texture and a faint criss-cross pattern, and have adorning gold features. Both subjects are armed with handguns held in holsters - handguns are larger than conventional standard and have a cylindrical implement built-in under the barrel.
TL: "Are you seeing this?"
HQ: "You are not hallucinating. Please attempt to open a dialogue."
One subject speaks.
TL: "Do you recognise the language?"
HQ: "Sounds like gibberish to me."
Language is later determined to be distantly related to ancient Greek.
TL: "Hey! He's trying to take my gun!"
Male subject is attempting to remove the Team Leaders firearm. Subject is not immediately violent, but appears to be persistent and has better mobility, presumably because of Team Leader's suit. Team leader panics and fires- the subject is hit in the chest and begins to bleed heavily, second subject reaches for sidearm and is shot.
TL: "STORM!"
HQ from here attempts repeatedly to contact Team Leader, but receives no response. Whether incoming transmissions have been jammed or Team Leader refused to answer remains unclear.
Team moves through the ship, splitting up. Team is following pre-arranged directions to likely areas for a ships command section, and splits into separate groups of five. Teams One, Two, Four, and Six are engaged almost immediately. Hostile SCP-7091 instances were typically wearing black ballistics armour with open visored helmets. Subjects carried automatic rifles with under-barrel grenade launchers, subjects also had sidearms, several hand grenades each, as well as at least one knife, usually on the arm. What follows is one such encounter.
Team two encounters a four man opposing strike team positioned in front of an internal door. Door is being used as cover. Mobility of team two is severely hampered by space suits, team is only able to take cover as SCP-7091-A instances appear initially reluctant to engage, until team opens fire to break through.
Team opens fire - one target is struck twice in the chest, ballistics plate is visibly damaged, but camera analysis suggests it was not penetrated. Assault rifle fire appears limitedly effective. SCP-7091-A throw several hand grenades and begin suppressive fire. One team member is wounded by counter fire, space suits prove too restrictive to mobility for grenades to be returned. Grenades detonate and kill two team members, one more is severely wounded. Team returns fire, striking one subject in the arm - rounds visibly penetrate - and striking another in the visor. Visor cracks but does not break. Subjects take cover, and two grenades are thrown at angles, bouncing off the wall and exploding in close proximity to team members. All cameras have now failed.
LOG ENDS
Pilots were able to break off from SCP-7091 and were able to safely return with COLUMBIA.
No Further messages were received from the team, but shortly after COLUMBIA broke off from SCP-7091 SCP-7091 triggered its main drive and retreated to the dark side of the moon. Engine suppression was remarkably effective.
SCP-7091 has since returned to its previous orbit, and procedure 7791-D has been retired. Researchers are to consider SCP-7091 a potentially existential threat to the Foundation and should devise ways to reliably remove this threat.
