SpeckledTrout

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a 2m x 1mx x 1m enclosure lined with a 10cm layer of sediment and furnished with several rocks and items of foliage. Three heat lamps fitted above the enclosure are to be monitored at regular intervals during the day and adjusted per SCP-XXXX’s wishes.

SCP-XXXX should be fed once daily, according to its tastes. A selection of live mice, assorted nightcrawlers, and various fish are available for SCP-XXXX’s consumption. Foundation personnel assigned to SCP-XXXX are encouraged to ask the specimen for its preference in meal choice.

Any attempts to escape by SCP-XXXX should be responded to by application of standard reptile control measures. Whenever handling the specimen, use of the extendible hook and tongs, stored adjacent to SCP-XXXX’s enclosure, are required. Care should be taken when handling the specimen, and any instance of bites from SCP-XXXX should be reported immediately to Medical Staff.

At approximately 0800 on Sunday of each week, the on-site Catholic priest, Fr. [CENSORED], is to practice Mass for SCP-XXXX, performed in Liturgical Latin. These services are to extend to Holy Days which may occur on days other than Sunday.

Should SCP-XXXX become verbally abusive, personnel are advised to adhere to the posted feeding and heat schedules posted in Addendum XXXX-IV. Additionally, personnel may restrict the weekly visits of Fr. [CENSORED] if disruptive behavior continues.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a male garter snake approximately 130cm in length. The specimen weighs approximately 145g (a side-effect of an extensive diet), and is identical to non-anomalous specimens biologically and physiologically. SCP-XXXX produces a neurotoxic venom, delivered (often ineffectively) through the application of a bite, and is understood not to be seriously harmful to human staff.

SCP-XXXX’s feeding and habitation habits are largely identical to those of non-anomalous specimens, with the exception of more regular expectation to feed daily rather than on a weekly or bi-weekly period.
SCP-XXXX’s lifespan is theorized to far exceed that of a non-anomalous garter snake specimen, having claimed that it has existed for more than 1000 years. The Foundation’s study of SCP-XXXX only consists of a small fraction of that period, so this claim has not been ratified. Further study, and the continued longevity of SCP-XXXX, may prove this claim to be true.

SCP-XXXX is capable of human speech patterns, and is fully capable of speaking both modern English and a dialect of ancient Dutch sourced from the Flemish Region of Belgium. The specimen regularly communicates fluently with Foundation staff, and makes its desires and necessities clear. SCP-XXXX is reportedly polite and overwhelmingly considerate of site limitations, and displays cordiality when directly communicated with. SCP-XXXX can display or communicate aggression or negative emotion, and has only been recorded to become abusive or aggressive after significant provocation by Foundation personnel.

SCP-XXXX claims that it is Sir Lethold of Tournai, a Christian nobleman and crusader, and was born in the year 1077. The specimen is able to recount with great detail the events and individuals of that period of history, and has testified to its involvement in multiple battles of the First Crusade. According to historical record and fact-checking, all verifiable details of SCP-XXXX’s narrative are accurate, and the non-verifiable details remain impossible to prove or disprove through historical examination or study.

SCP-XXXX was discovered by the Foundation during an [CENSORED] operation (“Blast Door”) conducted by Mobile Task Force Lambda-31 (“Lightning in a Bottle”) to contain then-escaped SCP-[CENSORED] in the Dead Sea cavern network. Lieutenant Oliver Spitz, while participating in the bug-hunt, uncovered SCP-XXXX and was verbally greeted by the specimen. Lieutenant Spitz performed an in-field containment of SCP-XXXX by placing the specimen in his left leg cargo pocket, where it remained until the culmination of the Operation Blast Door. SCP-XXXX was then turned over to containment and research personnel for study and transported to Zoological Containment Site-282.
