Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: All offspring of SCP-XXXX-1, SCP-XXXX-2, and SCP-XXXX-3 are to be terminated immediately unless they are intended to be used for the purpose of study into their physiology or reproduction, in which case they are to be kept in isolation until the appropriate studies are conducted, and immediately terminated afterward if alive. Study of the interactions between two SCP-XXXX instances may only be carried out between two or more offspring of the previously mentioned instances, and never with the three instances themselves. Experimentation with the offspring requires Level 3 approval, and experimentation beyond a standard measuring of vitals with the initial subjects themselves requires Level 4 approval.
SCP-XXXX-1, SCP-XXXX-2, and SCP-XXXX-3 are to be given distinct tags for the purpose of identifying them. Tags are to be fastened to a collar around the neck. All offspring of these instances are to be tagged as such. Unless for experimentation purpose, no physical marking or injury is to be inflicted on any instance.
Description: SCP-XXXX describes several anomalous instances of Canis Familaris, designated SCP-XXXX-1 through SCP-XXXX-4. All instances are completely identical. The diet of SCP-XXXX instances is not different in type to those of typical Canis Familaris, though SCP-XXXX consumes significantly more food than is typical, likely due to its unique method of reproduction. SCP-XXXX instances have atypical personalities, displaying complete apathy to their environment. SCP-XXXX interact as little as possible with other organisms of any kind, including their own offspring and even when threatened or physically harmed. Instances are extremely lethargic and only move if necessary to eat or drink. It is believed that this is due to the significant resource needs of its method of reproduction.
SCP-XXXX's most notable characteristic is that it reproduces asexually, using a process comparable binary fission and similar to the reproductive processes of certain single-cellular organisms. As a result, instances lack any sexual organs. SCP-XXXX's reproduction consists of four stages, with instances always in one stage of this cycle.
Stage 1: Stage one begins immediately after the completion of Stage 4 in the parent following a reproduction event, and immediately after the completion of Stage 5 in the offspring. Physical activity is nearly non-existent beyond eating and drinking. Dissection of instances during this stage has revealed that nearly all internal organs are being duplicated, as well as components of the muscular system. At a cellular level, reproduction is greatly accelerated. The specific manner in which each organ duplicates varies and is still under study. Relatively simple organs such as the stomach are built from the side of the preexisting organ, expanded and developed, and eventually separate. It is still unknown how precisely more complex organs such as the kidneys are duplicated but it appears that these are built "from scratch" away from the parent organ and developed similarly to how such structures develop in the bodies of non-anomalous fetuses. During this stage, the instance bloats significantly as its internal mass begins to double. The skin rapidly expands to accomodate this massive increase. Leg appendages begin to form on the underside of the body, growing under the skin. The only structure that has not been observed to duplicate at this time is the skeletal system. Most organs are non-functional at this time, and are still reliant on many of the initial organ systems for life. Due to the increased metabolic needs, near-constant hyperventilation and tachycardia begin to occur, especially near the end of the stage. Stage one takes between six and eight months to complete. A
Stage 2: Stage 2 begins immediately after the completion of Stage 1. Through means not yet fully understood, organ systems begin to re-orient themselves to opposite sides of the SCP-XXXX instance. Facing the head of the instance, the parent organs will orient themselves to the left and the newly formed organs to the left. Although the newly formed tissues are entirely reliant on the parent body for nutrients, oxygen, and waste excretion, this stage is also characterized by the rapid formation of a second head, skeletal system, and anus.
