Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a well-lit, white padded cell to prevent damage. SCP-XXX is to be enclosed in a transparent glove box made of no less than 6-inch thick hard plastic walls accompanied by ballistic screen protectors. SCP-XXXX is to be ‘opened’ by a team of no more than one D-Class personnel members daily.

Description: SSCP-XXXX is a silver reflective semi-transparent polygonal sphere with a small red ‘button’ located on the top, which when pushed, opens an 2.5 centimeter section of the device for 4.2 seconds. This casing contains what appears to be a black-hole 12.5-centimeters in diameter. Infrared heat maps have shown that the interior temperature of SCP-XXXX fluctuates very rapidly from -295 to 537 degrees Celsius, whereas the exterior is consistently at the temperature of its surroundings (Roughly 24 degrees Celsius) and does not change during SCP-XXXX’s forced daily activation.

SCP-XXXX has shown no signs of being sentient nor mobile. The origins of SCP-XXXX, as well as the material used in its manufacturing are unknown, however traces of both Earthborn sand traced back to Cairo, Egypt (Roughly 2628 B.C) as well as dust particles that appear to be extraterrestrial in origin have been found. All attempts at recreating SCP-XXXX’s ‘casing’ have failed.

Kurt Jäger : Schmidt! Calm yourself, you’ve seen worse… Note that the test subject is visually perspiring and frightened.

Müller: Yes, sir.

Hans Schmidt: I know I j- I never get used to this, we have no idea what this is, why does it always have to be me?

Jäger : I’m not sure if he’s just scared or if this object is doing this. Schmidt, gently feel the object. Be careful. How does it feel?

Schmidt: Can I at least have some gloves?

Jäger : No, pick it up and feel it. Remember that it’s much heavier than it looks. Do not drop it or touch the red spot yet.

Schmidt: The thing inside is vibrating.

Jäger : Vibrating?

Schmidt: Well, shaking really fast at least.

Jäger : I need you to be as specific as possible Schmidt.

Schmidt: Okay, yeah it feels hollow, but that thing inside is shaking very fast.

Jäger : Good, good, see? Nothing to worry about.

Schmidt: You said that with [REDACTED] too.

Jäger : And we kept you safe. Now, I want you to face it upright and hold it with both hands… Good, now feel the red mark, but gently.

Schmidt: It feels like some sort of button.

Jäger : A Button?

Schmidt: Like I could push it down.

Jäger : Interesting. What about the material?

Schmidt: It… it feels rubbery yet metallic at the same time.

Jäger : Now I want you to very slowly press the button, see what it triggers.

Schmidt: What?

Jäger : We need to know what we are dealing with. You don’t have to press it down all the way yet, just see what it does. Do not drop it.

Schmidt: Nothing’s happening.

Jäger : Push it down all the way.

Schmidt is visibly startled

Jäger : What?

Schmidt: Part of it the sphere just retracted in itself. I can clearly see what’s inside of it now… It’s…beautiful.

Jäger : Schmidt?

Schmidt: No don’t worry. I’m not being hypnotized again. It’s just so beautiful…

Jäger : How would you describe it?

Schmidt: It just closed again.

Jäger : What did it look like?

Schmidt: It looked like… some sort of pitch black cloud, but it just… I don’t know.

Jäger : Open it again.

Schmidt: I’ve never seen anything like this, it’s impossible to describe, I can’t even touch it, but it feels like I can push down on it.

Schmidt lets out a loud scream of pain before dropping it on the floor, his index finger is now completely missing, there is however no blood nor wound mark, only a stump.

Jäger : Schmidt!

Schmidt: What the fuck did you do to me!?

After hitting the ground, the sphere closes itself, lying perfectly still on the ground.

Jäger : Did you see that? Write that down.

Müller: Yes, but sir-

Jäger : Hold on, he’s fine. Let’s see how this plays out.

Schmidt: Jäger ! What the hell did you do!?

A brief moment of silence occurs.

Schmidt: You know what!? I’ve had enough of this!

Schmidt then picks up the sphere and assumes the position of throwing it towards Jäger . Müller and Jäger then both duck and look the opposite way, preparing for an impact. A few seconds of complete silence pass before they look back towards Schmidt, who has now been reduced to a pile of ash.

Jäger : What the hell…

Interviewed: Broder, Heinz

Interviewer: [REDACTED]

Foreword: Afer several years in containment at Facility [REDACTED], a team of our research staff has mapped out locations in which SCP-XXXX may have been over the past half-millennium, as well as groups and/or nations who may have successfully harnessed SCP-XXXX’s energy. Subject Heinz, Broder I.D #32543, one of the last survivors of the Holocaust, is thought to have witnessed SCP-XXXX’s power first hand, and has been located and has consented to an interview to help further our understanding of SCP-XXXX.

<Begin Log: Sunday, February 2nd,2014. Time: 09:00 UTC>

Interviewer: Good evening Mr. Broder, thank you for joining us today.

Heinz: Yeah *clears throat*. Yeah, thank you.

Interviewer: Have you ever personally handled SCP-XXXX, the object?

Heinz: No, but I know what it can do.

Interviewer: When was your first encounter with it (SCP-XXXX)?

Heinz: I was working at a factory for the Germans. They never told us where we were, but we build tank parts and ammunition there. The first time I saw it it was only in passing. A man in a lab coat was carrying it, he was being escorted by a group of soldiers.
Interviewer: Can you describe the object?

Heinz: Well, they had it in a box. I had no idea what was inside of it, but I knew it had to be very important. I had never seen anyone in a lab coat enter the factory before.

Interviewer: So you’ve never seen the object?

Heinz: No, but I’m no fool. The next day, something had changed in the factory. The assembly lines began moving faster, and more quiet too. Usually they sounded very old and worn out, as if the gears inside were begging for an oiling. But now, it sounded…different. Just a very faint humming.

Interviewer: Humming? Like electricity?

Heinz: I would have to say yes. But not only that, the machines begin producing something different. All the shells and tank parts that came out after other workers had worked on them… They looked the same, but… More polished, and they felt much more sturdy and ice cold to the touch, usually they were at least warm.

Interviewer: And in your opinion this was being caused by whatever was in the box from the day before?

Heinz: Certainly. The difference was night and day. Usually parts would break down left and right, not only were we all working against our will but most of us had only lied about having experience to save ourselves. But now, everything was pristine. Quiet, too, usually you could hear the roars of every contraption in the building, not anymore.

Interviewer: Were you aware of what you were building in that factory?

Heinz: Well, I think most of us did. I mean you don’t have to be a soldier to know what a tank shell looks like. But here’s the thing… before the “upgrade” we were always working on the same exact parts over and over. Our job never really got harder, considering the circumstances.

Interviewer: And then?

Heinz: Something had changed drastically. Before, well.. let’s just say I didn’t bother making friends with anyone. Everyone was very replaceable to say the least. But now, at least a couple dozen new workers had been put in, and no one ever really went missing.

Interviewer: What about the work efforts? Did they change?

Heinz: The parts we were making were much larger than before.

Interviewer: How much bigger would you say?

Heinz: Well, over the course of a few weeks I had overheard the same group of guards talking about something more and more. I heard them use the same term quite a few times. Die Ratte they said. And I knew they weren’t talking about us. They can come up with much better insults.

Interviewer: Die Ratte? What does that mean?

Heinz: Forgive me. It means The Rat. I didn’t know what it meant at the time, but I’ve seen a few documentaries from the time, it was a tank Hitler wanted to dominate the battlefield. It made even the largest tanks look like small children.

Interviewer: And you believe this is what the Nazis had you working on in that factory?

Heinz: The size of the parts we were making were on par with The Rat, yes.

Interviewer: So how come The Rat never saw the battlefield?

Heinz: The Russians. I don’t know if they were sent specifically to rescue us or to capture that device, but they came to our camp. It all happened very fast, and I don’t think the details of what I saw are that important. I didn’t even think to look towards that factory. All I knew was I was being saved, and that’s all most of us cared about.

Interviewer: Did you ever come into contact with the object?

Heinz: Apart from operating the machinery it was powering, no.

Interviewer: And was this the last you had heard from it?

Heinz: In person, yes. But after the war was over, years after… I remember hearing the report on the radio. The Chernobyl incident… I don’t know what happened in that power plant, but I do know that the Russians had that device and coincidentally the worst nuclear disaster in the world at the time had happened with them.

Interviewer: In your opinion, who in recent history may have had their hands on this device?

Heinz: Well, i’m assuming you people have it contained?

Interviewer: Until we know its true potential, yes.

Heinz: Then there are two possibilities: either it’s been taken out of this place multiple times, or there are more out there.

Interviewer: What leads you to believe this?

Heinz: Well, let’s say I were to throw you on an island with a group of a hundred other people. How long would it take for even one of you to build an iPod? Or working phone lines?

[A brief moment of silence is had]

Heinz: Don’t you see how fast technology is advancing? I’d bet not one person in this building couldn’t build even a basic radio from scratch. I know I wouldn’t be able to.

Interviewer: Who do you believe has harnessed it’s powers in recent years?

Heinz: Nearly all Western civilizations. Just look at the line between first and third world countries, how do you think that happens? Many would probably say it’s the result of good leadership or something political. But no, it’s a crutch… A cheat if you will. People think those that live in third world Countries are just inherently animals. I can tell you first hand that all humans share the same evils and instincts.

Closing Notes: Subject has shown no signs of an altered state of mind nor intoxicants of any kind. Further questioning and/or containment is unnecessary and is to be discontinued as of Sunday, Februrary 2nd, 2014 10:22 UTC.

[REDACTED] Side Notes: Broder Heinz has raised some genuine reasons for concern. The first and immediate threat being the possibility of collusion within the facility and/or duplicates of SCP-XXXX. The second, but by no means less of a cause for alarm, is the implication of only civilizations with the device being able to advance, as well as the possibility of said advancement backfiring on its user.

10	Emission causes subjects head to implode. Note that the subject was visibly shaking as a result of fear. This seems to be a combination of increased levels of instability in SCP-XXXX as well as changes in direction of the opening.

14	Subject is completely disintegrated with no visible traces of clothing nor charred remnants remaining. Minor cracks and tears in both the windows and walls of the test room form. Closing Notes: Research staff members have concluded that SCP-XXXX becomes increasingly unstable with time. SCP-XXXX is to be placed in a reinforced glove box cabinet and activated daily.
