scp_x_tube

Specimen of SCP-X, 5 minutes after insertion of biological matter from a specimen of Felis silvestris catus (The common 'house' cat).

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: Up to 10 instances of SCP-X-1 can be kept in a safe in secure storage for testing purposes. Excess instances of SCP-X-1 should be destroyed. Any instance of SCP-X-2 outside of a controlled testing environment should be destroyed immediately via incendiary weapon. Testing is prohibited unless permission is given by at least 2 Senior Researchers, one of whom must oversee the test.

Testing of SCP-X must be performed in a room less than 3x3x3m in size. This room must have an air humidity level of less than 5% during testing. The surface on which testing is performed must be coated with lead. The walls of the room must be completely fireproof, and the floor and ceiling outfitted with miniature flamethrowers capable of 60 seconds of sustained fire. In the event of a containment breach, MTF Team Gamma-13 ("Greek Fire"), equipped with flame-retardant lead-lined HazMat suits and flamethrowers will be dispatched to terminate the instance(s) of SCP-X-2.

Description: SCP-X is a sealed test tube (from now referred to as SCP-X-1) in clamshell packaging branded as "Life in a Tube!™". The packaging advertises itself as "a fun science experiment for kids!" and that it "Just needs 1 fingernail!". The company name "Kool Science Ltd." is listed on the packaging, though no company under that name is known to exist. The liquid within SCP-X-1 is seemingly non-anomalous water.

SCP-X-1 displays its anomalous properties when biological matter from any species of mammal is introduced to it while it is at least 50% full of water (this will only happen if the water is what was originally in the test tube; draining the test tube and replacing it with new water will not work.). When a sample of biological matter becomes submerged in the water, a layer of flesh identical in genetic makeup to the sample will begin to grow on it. The water in the tube will disappear at the same rate as the flesh grows, presumably being converted into flesh through anomalous means. Once all the water has been incorporated into the mass of flesh (from now on referred to as SCP-X-2), SCP-X-2 will begin to excrete an unknown liquid which liquefies most materials (at varying rates; organic materials are liquefied quickly, while heavy metals, especially lead, do so much slower). SCP-X-2 will then absorb the liquefied matter and, through anomalous means, convert it to flesh. As SCP-X-2 grows larger, this liquid becomes more potent.

As SCP-X-2 grows, it gradually takes the shape of the creature that the biological matter sample originated from. Its anatomy, however, can vary in similarity to the original animal. For example, the specimen in the photo above grew into a creature similar to a cat, though it was hairless, lacked eyes, grew fleshy tendrils in the place of whiskers, and had a digestive system that terminated at the stomach (likely due to SCP-X-2's absorption-based feeding method). Regardless of features, SCP-X-2 instances seem to have exceptional senses of smell and hearing. The most notable difference between all instances of SCP-X-2 and their respective parent fauna is the complete lack of a brain. In its place are bundles of nerves located near sensory organs in the SCP-X-2 specimen's body. SCP-X-2 instances can grow to sizes much larger than the animal they originate from (see Breach Log X-2-B3 for an example.). Once a specimen of SCP-X-2 reaches a critical size (currently unknown, estimated to be roughly 2 tonnes), it will collapse into an amorphous mass, which will then split into up to 10 smaller versions of itself (similar to the form it took pre-collapse).

SCP-X-2 instances are universally hostile towards animals and will attempt to assimilate other animals into its own mass. Typically, The SCP-X-2 instance will attack the spinal cord near the point of attachment to the brain stem, either with claws, teeth or by dissolving the spinal cord with the liquid it excretes. This leaves the target paralysed and defenseless against SXP-X-2, which can freely dissolve and absorb the victim. Despite a lack of a central brain, SCP-X-2 instances are very intelligent hunters, being able to recognise when they are outnumbered and attempting to disable assailants to minimise harm to themselves.
