The Ebony Mutagen

SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in the anti-corrosive teflon canisters it was discovered in, submerged in liquid nitrogen, in a 18×10×8 meter chamber sealed off from the Containment Vaults of Site-██. Room temperature must remain below 12° celsius within. Any rise in temperature must be resolved immediately. Only LV3 personnel and above may access SCP-XXXX. The use of refined Hazmat suits, for both chemical and biological agents, are to be worn at all times when SCP-XXXX is within 30 meters of any human life to prevent unwanted exposure to the biohazard. Those who do not follow these procedures will be terminated immediately. SCP-XXXX must never make unintended physical contact with human tissue. Personnel that have been exposed to the chemical will be quarantined for 1 week. If signs of infection or mutation are present, they will be terminated.

Testing on human subjects must be done delicately, and said human subjects must be terminated via submergence in hydrogen fluoride after the experiment is completed. The fluid remaining from the hydrogen fluoride reaction must be poured into teflon canisters, and dated the day the canisters are stored along with SCP-XXXX. Experimentation must be performed in laboratories with separate power supplies and backup generators outside of the facility, and all surfaces of the testing area must be coated in Teflon thirty centimeters thick.

All instances of SCP-XXXX-1 must be terminated unless otherwise stated. Mutation varies with the current state of the host’s physical health, full mutation achievement occuring at anytime between ten minutes and three days. At this time, there is only one instance of XXXX-1 is pardoned from the death rule, hereby labeled SCP-XXXX-1-A. Testing requests that would physically harm XXXX-1-A will be denied.

The containment cell for SCP-XXXX-1-A need to be at least 10 cubic meters, and coated with Teflon at least 40 centimeters thick, with reinforced sliding doors. The containment cell requires a constant 300 lumens of light, and routine cleaning and inspection, twice daily. All signs of deterioration within the chamber must be assessed and attended to upon inspection. All changes in XXXX-1-A’s behavior must be documented and reported immediately. Requests made by SCP-XXXX-1-A are to be reported and documented before evaluation of said request.

Description: SCP-XXXX is exactly 625 liters of a heavily corrosive, metallic ebony liquid kept within pre-1900's teflon canisters. Under a microscope, SCP-XXXX appears to be composed of a highly concentrated strain of an unidentified virus, along with other extremely toxic chemicals, most notably fluoroantimonic acid. The boiling point of SCP-XXXX is approximately 16° celsius, at which the viral strain becomes airborne. This virus causes a rapid mutative reaction once physical contact is administered to human flesh, along with the corrosive effects of the acidic chemicals. It does not mutate non-human organisms. It is unknown of how the virus does not disassemble within the incredibly hostile environment of the fluid.

Once physical contact had been made, the mutation cannot be easily stopped. Subjects who had been contaminated by SCP-XXXX die of corrosion-related breaches to vital organs, or various non-mutative symptoms such as organ hypoxia, and brain/aorta aneurysms. Various other symptoms are displayed before these, symptoms of viral infections are common. There currently is no vaccination or treatment for the viral infection. It is unclear of what environment causes the virus to mutate its host. Mutative symptoms include dysentery, muscular weakness, abnormalities in heartbeat and breathing patterns, anemia, and formation of cancer-like tumors leading up to metamorphosis.

Instances of SCP-XXXX-1 are ebony-coloured dragonesque beings, weighing around 34 kilograms, standing roughly 2.34 meters tall, and having a total body length of 4.83 meters. Instances tend to have a skin complexion of deep ebony, and are completely quadruped. It is unclear if all instances are sapient, or retain knowledge prior to metamorphosis.

SCP-XXXX-1-A, however, measures 15.9 meters long, standing roughly 4.6 meters tall. SCP-XXXX-1-A has a total body mass of 76.2 kilograms. This particular instance is a biped.

SCP-XXXX-1-A had been the first instance of SCP-XXXX-1 created by foundation experimentation, from Site-██ approximately December 12th, 1944. () SCP-XXXX-1-A is sapient and speaks English, and has performed nearly perfectly in multiple intelligence tests.

The anomalous properties of SCP-XXXX-1 have no known cause. The full potential of these properties have yet to be recorded, but as of last documentation, the anomalies consist of spontaneous combustion, the incredible resistance to drugs and toxins, and the ability to remain functional despite being beheaded, dismembered, disembowled, or any other means of removing vital portions of the beings' anatomy. Such actions resolve in combustion, yet the exact time of combustion varies between 12 seconds and 14 minutes after. Currently, the only known method of sedation of instances is by injection of chemicals with the toxicity of hydrocyanic acid, or greater.

SCP-XXXX-1-A has not spontaneously combusted.

SCP-XXXX-1 instances have a strong aversion (and susceptibility) to fire in particular. They are incredibly flammable. The instances have hypersensitive eyes, and display pain and aggression when exposed to 800 lumens of light, XXXX-1 also react similarly to a rapid strobe greater than 450 lumens.

Dr. █████████: Many hypotheses have been tested to determine the cause of the spontaneous combustion, as well as SCP-XXXX-1-A been consulted on the matter. The cause seems to still be unknown, and further research and experiments must be conducted.

Dr. █████: Instances of SCP-XXXX have foreign internal organs, yet the structures do bear resemblance to that of humans. SCP-XXXX-1-A demonstrates a very strange digestive system, It leaves little to no waste, and consumes an excess of 272 kilograms each week. It displays malnutrition and complains about being underfed if offered anything other than human flesh.
