Item #: SCP-5402

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-5402-1 is to be kept in a 5m x 5m x 5m room with 2m soundproofing. No fragile objects are to enter the room. All personnel are to wear earplugs and active noise-cancelling earmuffs when entering the room and are not permitted to remove them while inside. Any personnel found to be in breach of protocol must be isolated and forbidden from contact with society, and may be euthanised if they wish to do so. Object is to be enclosed in a wooden box padded with rubber suspended 2.5m off the ground, with an opening of reinforced glass measuring 20cm x 20cm facing the door. A tracking device is placed on SCP-5402-1, to be checked and replaced if needed every fortnight.

Description: SCP-5402-1 is a crudely made ukulele constructed out of birch wood. It is assembled using copious amounts of glue and sellotape. It is decorated with markers and colouring pencils, displaying waves, road signs, cartoon characters, and a pair of hands joined in prayer underneath the strings. No matter how much it is turned, the strings will always be out of tune, the specifics of which vary every time it is played. No visual difference is present, however.

SCP-5402-1’s more dangerous anomalous effects come into account when it is played. Any tune played will be stuck in the minds of all those who hear it for approx. 5 minutes. When played continually for 3 hours, this effect can last for several days. This causes several psychological issues, mainly due to the lack of sleep and constant distraction caused. Music caused by SCP-5402-1 is also capable of shattering glass and other fragile objects.

Incident 5402-7: ███ days after containment, personnel stationed outside SCP-5402-1’s containment chamber reported music coming from within. Upon inspection, SCP-5402-1 had appeared outside of its case with no visible damage, its strings vibrating by themselves in a repeating pattern. Controlled analysis of this pattern revealed a code hidden in the musical notes played, repeating the phrase “Duke of Uke”

Following Incident 5402-7, many changes in SCP-5402-1’s behaviour occurred. It began disappearing and reappearing at random times throughout the facility, playing an upward C note when appearing and a downward C minor note when disappearing. Since this time, SCP-5402-1 has been observed to teleport within its cell randomly on average every 27 minutes, with it teleporting outside its cell on average every 5 days. This is also when SCP-5402-2 began appearing alongside SCP-5402-1.

SCP-5402-2 is a 2.21m tall, roughly humanoid figure comprised entirely out of musical instruments. It’s head is an enlarged copy of SCP-5402-1, turned downward with it’s head connecting to its torso, an antique grand piano with its case sealed shut. It’s two arms measure approximately 1m in length each, comprising of various types flutes, recorders, clarinets, oboes, and other woodwind instruments bundled together.

The palm of each hand is formed using a musical triangle, with the associated stick being the thumb for the corresponding hand. The 4 remaining fingers of each hand are wooden drumsticks. SCP-5402-2’s legs are formed from violins and violas joined together with a patchwork of bows. It’s feet are large snare drums with no toes. Finally, it possesses a brass jazz saxophone as a tail. Any attempt to pry instruments out from SCP-5402-2 are unsuccessful.

Destruction of SCP-5402-2 is possible using means such as fire or large amounts of force, though this has no lasting effect on SCP-5402-2. It subsequently appears with SCP-5402-1 in a more agitated state.

SCP-5402-2 possesses the ability to produce musical instruments and noises from nowhere, commonly a trumpet, double bass, and kazoo. The music it plays has been reported differently by different personnel, seeming to be mostly random notes but always reminding the listener of their favourite song.

SCP-5402-2 is not typically aggressive, but will become hostile once threatened or destroyed, or when a subject listens to music produced by either SCP-5402-1 or SCP-5402-2 for a period of roughly 60 minutes continuously. It displays its hostility in a soft hum of various orchestral instruments, the volume of which increases as it becomes more agitated. When sound is approximately 110 dB, SCP-5402-2 will attack nearby organisms, while being drawn to the perpetrator of its source of agitation, henceforth referred to as SCP-5402-3. It will then attempt to bludgeon SCP-5402-3 to death with its hands or feet, travelling at a consistent average speed of 10km/h. If it’s progress is halted or it is destroyed, SCP-5402-2 will disappear with SCP-5402-1.

Both items will then appear nearby SCP-5402-3 at a random time within the next 48 hours and deafen them with extremely loud orchestral music. Only SCP-5402-3 is subject to this effect, any other persons nearby will only hear a soft strumming of SCP-5402-1, causing its typical effects. SCP-5402-3 will then experience effects associated with listening to SCP-5402-1 for a permanent amount of time, until termination by SCP-5402-2 or otherwise.
