Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX should be kept in a standard, medium security storage locker for safe items under 0.5 m3 at Site-XX. Any SCP-XXXX-1 instances should be kept in appropriately sized opaque containers if needed for further study and, If not needed, SCP-XXXX-1 instances should be incinerated. This will remove the effect of SCP-XXXX, even if the object from which the SCP-XXXX-1 instance was created is not destroyed by the incinerator. Any SCP-XXXX-2 instances should be kept in separate barracks from other D-class subjects due to their effect on the sleep quality of non-affected subjects. All testing requests must be submitted to a level 4 researcher or above the head researcher for approval. Testing on living subjects has been suspended, see addendum 1.
Description: SCP-XXXX constitutes 3 full cases and 1 partial case, totaling 46.5 500 mL bottles, of orange liquid. Chemical analysis of the liquid is inconclusive, providing different and nonsensical results upon repeated testing. The labels on all bottles are nearly consistent with that of the non-anomalous cleaner brand ██████ ███ with the exception of SCP-XXXX bottles indicating the contents are an “All surface” cleaner and polish as opposed to solely a hardwood cleaner. The anomalous properties of SCP-XXXX manifest approximately 24 hours after applying it to a surface if that surface is rubbed as if being polished.1. The area of an object that SCP-XXXX is applied to and polished will begin to produce light over the 600-630 nm wavelength range, universally perceived by any observers as orange in color. Please see testing log for developing information on SCP-XXXX.
Addendum 1: SCP-XXXX-2 instances are housed together away from other D-class subjects due to the persistence of light producing effect even while sleeping. Following the 1st night of sleep under the effect of SCP-XXXX all SCP-XXXX-2 instances woke complaining of unusual hunger. After being provided the standard breakfast for D-class subjects in good standing with the Foundation, SCP-XXXX-2 instances complained that they are still extremely hungry. The subjects were instructed to go about their assigned tasks, but complaints of hunger too intense to continue their duties came increasingly often. Even after an unusually large midday meal the SCP-XXXX-2 instances continue to complain of hunger. The second morning after exposure to SCP-XXXX the subjects with 6 to 10 coats were found expired, but still glowing. Their bodies were emaciated and showed evidence of death from hunger. Following the death of D-8541-5 medical examination of the rest of the subjects showed that they all possessed increased metabolic rates proportional to the coats of SCP-XXXX they received. D-8535 showed a metabolic rate that could be managed with alterations to diet, D8536-43 had unmanageable metabolic rates and were terminated.
Note from Head Researcher Anderson: Following test five researcher Daniels was removed from his post as assistant project lead and demoted. I know we give them all numbers and letter so its easer to just use them like tools but D-class are by far the most expensive test subject we use, please take better care in the future not to deplete the supply of them so quickly.
History SCP-XXXX was advertised on television from 28/10/20XX to 12/06/20XX. Advertisements for SCP-XXX replaced legitimate advertisements for the associated non-anomalous cleaning product. Below is a segment of the advertisement for the anomalous product.
Are you not getting the sparkle you want on your counters no matter how hard you scrub and polish?
Does your cleaner not give your counters the shine you want?
Are you tired of using products that promise luminesce but fail to deliver?
Introducing the new formula for ██████ ███ that is guaranteed to make your counters glow like the sun.
Members of the public who ordered from these commercials received their order as a package of standard appearance for the shipping service claimed on the infomercial. Initially, the packages were shipped by the company claimed on the commercial, although a single originating entity could not be uncovered. Once the Foundation started intercepting the packages in route to their destination, packages began appearing on the door step of the customer 3-7 business days following order placement. These packages would appear at some time during the night while the door step was unobserved2
