Aerial camera feed from SCP-4985's containment chamber. If formation of SCP-4985-A is visible, contact site administration immediately.
Item #: SCP-4985
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4985 is to be stored on a pedestal within its containment chamber at Site-██. The room is to be remotely monitored, a live-feed being present above, and at least one armed guard is to be present in the same sector as the chamber at all times. In the event that SCP-4985-A becomes present outside of a controlled testing environment, the areas surrounding the site of the incident are to be locked down, and a minimum of 3 on-site security units are to be sent to first contain SCP-4985, and then destroy any remaining SCP-4985-A by standard incineration protocol. Liquids are not to be present in SCP-4985's containment chamber, and the presence of any liquid in the chamber is to be reported immediately. SCP-4985 is still to be monitored lightly, as water present in the air of the containment chamber still has the potential to form around and inside of SCP-4985, albeit in small quantities. If SCP-4985-A becomes present on live feed, the same procedure is to be conducted as stated above. Non-human organisms are restricted from entering SCP-4985's containment chamber until further notice.
Physical contact is to be avoided with both SCP-4985 and SCP-4985-A, and all researchers must equip biohazmat suits prior to and throughout testing with SCP-4985. Standard sterilization protocols are to be undergone following any interaction with SCP-4985 or SCP-4985-A.
Description: SCP-4985 is a glass jar, 8.0 cm in diameter and 10.5 cm in height, with an indentation at the top to fit a seal. Based on the appearance of SCP-4985-A, and it's physical similarity to other non-anomalous products in the consumer market, it is designed for containing cheese salsa.
The contents of the jar are a viscous liquid, hereby designated as SCP-4985-A, with the qualities of cheese salsa, resembling that sold by the ██████ company, in [REDACTED]. If any liquid is placed into SCP-4985, the liquid will begin converting into SCP-4985-A at an approximate rate of 5 ml per minute. The liquid in question does not seem to effect SCP-4985-A's properties, nor the rate of conversion. Biological matter is not to be placed inside of SCP-4985, or [DATA EXPUNGED]. Metal and solid substances appear to have no effect when inside of SCP-4985, unless in a liquid form. Conversion is only authorized to take place for testing which involves SCP-4985-A.
When a living organism human makes contact with SCP-4985-A, the subject immediately goes into an unconscious state for as long as physical contact continues between SCP-4985-A and the subject, the subject awakening the moment physical contact with SCP-4985-A is broken. If SCP-4985-A enters the body through any orifice, [DATA EXPUNGED]. Following sterilization procedures, SCP-4985 is to be barred from research for a period of 2 weeks. SCP-4985-A has no anomalous effects on the deceased in any manner. Animals1 are not to make contact with SCP-4985-A under any circumstances.
There is currently no method of determining the difference between SCP-4985-A and consumer cheese salsa without making physical contact. To prevent the possibility of a breach of containment, SCP-4985-A is to be incinerated following any testing, and SCP-4985 is to contain no SCP-4985-A when in its containment chamber. Research is still ongoing in finding an efficient method of differentiation postponed indefinitely by order of the O5 Council, as of 1/10/2019.
Addendum : Recovery
SCP-4985 was discovered on 8/3/2007, following a police raid on a home located in ████████, Ohio, which had been suspected of housing multiple wanted persons. When authorities entered the building, they found the corpses of 12 individuals, appearing to have been used to undergo an occult ritual. The Foundation was notified of the incident through scheduled sweeps of local media and the home was contained by the Foundation the following day. Class A amnestics were given out to the surrounding community and officers present for the discovery. SCP-4985 was found clutched in the hands of the deceased S████ █████, a known Beta level member within the Chaos Insurgency. The object's anomalous effects became apparent when blood covering SCP-4985 through contact with S████'s corpse was found to be completely absent from the inside of the object, despite blood being visible around the opening. A staff member reported the anomaly, and the object was sent to Site-██, where SCP-4985-A's anomalous effects were initially documented, and appropriate SCP classifications were enacted.
