Special Containment Procedures: Due to the unknown origin of SCP-XXXX, and the lack of an effective cure for it, the SCP Foundation has formed a joint coalition with the United States Government to reenact the Eighteenth Amendment, banning the sale, production, importation, and transportation of alcohol and alcoholic beverages, described to citizens as a way to "reduce the amount of injuries and deaths caused by driving while under the influence of alcohol".

All known SCP-XXXX-A instances are to be put into a humanoid containment site, with at least 50 meters of space between each cell, until a cure for SCP-XXXX is found. While SCP-XXXX-A instances are in containment, they are barred from access to alcoholic beverages unless during specific testing. Testing of an SCP-XXXX-A instance must be done in an area at least 50 meters away from all other SCP-XXXX-A instances, in order to prevent a large-scale breach of containment.

Description: SCP-XXXX is an anomalous condition that is known to exist within approximately 1,900 humans in the United States. While originally considered a rare genetic condition, 99% of all known humans with SCP-XXXX currently live on the Eastern Seaboard of the United States. Despite this fact, researchers have determined that SCP-XXXX is not contagious. Further investigation is needed to find a correlation between this location and SCP-XXXX.

Humans that have SCP-XXXX, henceforth referred as SCP-XXXX-A, have no physical, mental, or behavioral differences from non-anomalous humans. However, the anomalous effects of SCP-XXXX appear when SCP-XXXX-A instances are under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. When an SCP-XXXX-A instance has a BAC1of .2% or greater, multiple anomalous effects will occur.

  1. All non-organic matter within a 50m radius will become fluid in nature, with similar viscosity to that of saltwater. This will not change the appearance or geometry of any buildings or structures within the radius. Because of this, all humans affected by SCP-XXXX are unable to swim through the non-organic matter.
  2. All SCP-XXXX-A instances within the radius (whether or not they are at the necessary BAC) will perceive themselves as and gain the mannerisms of members of Class Selachimorpha, including Galeocerdo cuvier, Sphyrna lewini, & Carcharodon carcharias2. This allows SCP-XXXX-A instances to breathe in the fluid matter, and increases their ability to swim.
  3. Any non-SCP-XXXX-A instance that has a BAC of .2% or greater will become a temporary SCP-XXXX-B instance. Like SCP-XXXX-A instances, SCP-XXXX-B instances are able to breathe in the fluid matter, and swim with greater efficiency. Unlike SCP-XXXX-A instances, SCP-XXXX-B instances will perceive themselves and will display the mannerisms of other marine animals. Notable examples of known SCP-XXXX-B mannerisms include the Xiphias gladius, Chelonia mydas, Thunnus thynnus, and Mola mola.3

Any human that is not an SCP-XXXX-A instance, nor lacks the BAC to become an SCP-XXXX-B instance, will not be affected by the fluidity of the matter. They will be able to see the actions of SCP-XXXX-A and SCP-XXXX-B instances, but they cannot interact with the instances.

Once the BAC of all SCP-XXXX-A instances in the area drops below the .2% threshold, the effects of SCP-XXXX will be removed, and all SCP-XXXX-B instances will revert to non-anomalous humans.

Discovery: SCP-XXXX was discovered on 11/7/2020, via security camera footage outside a bar in █████, Georgia. The footage showed Jonathan Smith (SCP-XXXX-A-1), along with 11 other non-anomalous humans. While walking out of the bar, SCP-XXXX-A-1, along with 7 others, reached the .2% BAC threshold to trigger the effects of SCP-XXXX. SCP-XXXX
