Item #: SCP-AAAA
Containment Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: There are no special containment procedures for SCP-AAAA. As of █/█/18, SCP-AAAA is stored in Dr. ████'s office.
Description: SCP-AAAA is an NTSC copy of Super Smash Bros. Melee for the Nintendo Gamecube. The appearance of the disc itself appears to be exactly the same compared to any other non-anomalous copy. SCP-AAAA's anomalous effects only occur when a user enters a name on the name entry menu. If the user enters the name of any fictional character, then the user will play as that character regardless if it is already on the character select screen. If there are multiple fictional characters with the same name the user entered, then SCP-AAAA will choose the character the user had in mind. However, due to the 4 character limit of names, the user can only play as a character whose name is 4 letters or less. The 4 character limit is present even in non-anomalous copies of Super Smash Bros. Melee
Experiment 1
Date: 5/10/2018
Procedure: Entered "Jak" into the name entry menu.
Result: Jak from the Jak and Daxter series was selected.
Experiment 2
Date: 5/15/2018
Procedure: Entered "Roy" into the name entry menu.
Result: Roy from the Fire Emblem series was selected.
Experiment 3
Date: 6/██/2018
Procedure: Entered "Mario" into the name entry menu. However, the game only recognized it as "Mari", due to the 4 character limit of names.
Result: No character was chosen. It is assumed that the reason for this was because the name violated the 4 character limit and that the conductor of the experiment had not thought of a character named "Mari" while entering the name.
Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: Any communication with SCP-XXXX is to be monitored by Mobile Task Force Mu-4. Any persons caught attempting to abuse or manipulate SCP-XXXX will result in communication with SCP-XXXX being cut off. To prevent SCP-XXXX from becoming a worldwide phenomenon, news outlets are not allowed to report on SCP-XXXX. Forum discussion about SCP-XXXX is to be monitored at all times.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a computer virus created by ██████ ████, a █ year old white male currently living in ██████. SCP-XXXX seeks and infects computers who belong to individuals suffering from crippling depression. However, SCP-XXXX can only infect computers connected to the internet. How it infects and detects crippling depression is unknown. Once a computer is infected by SCP-XXXX (designated SCP-XXXX-1), a sentient AI program named "A Friend" (designated SCP-XXXX-2) will be installed an appear on SCP-XXXX's desktop as an executable file. When SCP-XXXX-2 is activated, SCP-XXXX-2 will attempt to engage in a conversation with the user (designated SCP-XXXX-3). SCP-XXXX-2's tone is intonally welcoming and innocent, however, it often changes to accommodate SCP-XXXX-3's feelings. SCP-XXXX-2 has never demonstrated aggressive behavior.
SCP-XXXX only functions on computers running the Windows operating system, however, ██████ ████ has stated in his personal website, ██████.com, that he's interested in making SCP-XXXX run on more operating systems. Testing and communication logs have shown that each SCP-XXXX-2 instance is completely separate from one another and that each SCP-XXXX-2 will behave differently depending on how SCP-XXXX-3 acts towards it. SCP-XXXX's purpose, as stated by ██████ ████, is to "prevent others from having the same fate as I". When asked for details about "his fate", ██████ ████ refuses to respond.
If SCP-XXXX-3 removes SCP-XXXX-2, SCP-XXXX-2 will reappear on the desktop 2-5 minutes later. If SCP-XXXX-3 removes SCP-XXXX-2 5 times, a popup will appear saying "Please open 'A Friend'. It's not there to cause harm, but to rather help you. If you delete 'A Friend' one more time, It'll be gone forever. Please open it, you won't regret it. I promise."
Attempts to reverse engineer SCP-XXXX has resulted in minor success. Attempts to intercept and manipulate data sent by SCP-XXXX-3 to SCP-XXXX-2 have been successful. Attempts to reverse engineer the inner workings of SCP-XXXX-2 itself has resulted in failure.
Discovery: SCP-XXXX was unknown to the Foundation until 8/█/18, where multiple users of the popular crippling depression discussion forum, ████fourms.org, reported SCP-XXXX-2 appearing on their desktop. Users also reported their experiences with SCP-XXXX-2 (see Addendum-1) and often mention on how it helped them improve their mood, and that everyone who has SCP-XXXX-2 on their computer should open it.
The Foundation initially intended to completely prevent SCP-XXXX from spreading. However, after some consideration, it was decided to keep SCP-XXXX under supervision rather than completely containing it.
Addendum-1
Thread Subject: has anyone gotten a file named 'A Friend' randomly appear on their desktop?
█████2616: a few days ago a random file named 'A Friend' just kinda appeared out of nowhere. i suspected that it was a virus and so i deleted it. but then it came back. and so i deleted it again. i kept deleting it over and over again untill it told me somehting along the lines of it wanting to help me or something???? it also told me that if i deleted it again it wont come back.
i'm just wondering if anyone else has this and if its safe to open cuz i feel like theres more to this than what meets the eye
jonny████: Me too. I recently got the file as well. I'm a bit skeptical, so I won't open it untill someone confirms it.
████████: Same.
███21███: Me too! This is really weird...
█████2616: okay I just opened it and its apperatnly like... i dunno how to describe it. a hotline maybe? the progam told me to talk to it and so i typed in a few messages. it responded in a very friendly manner and it appears to want to be friends with me. the way the program acts is very human like so there must be some human behind it. i mean i would share what we said to eachover but theres a lot of sutff in it that i really would not like to share so im not going to.
nothing virus like or suspicious is happeneing with my computer yet and i've had it for a few hours. i'd say its safe but still be wary.
