Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Keter
Special Containment Procedures: All instances of SCP-XXXX-2 are to be secured by the Foundation by any means appropriate to each instance. Each instance is to be monitored and protected by Foundation security and response teams, to prevent trespassing by civilians, or to secure any escapees from SCP-XXXX. Many instances of SCP-XXXX-2 are publicly well-known and are within or in close proximity to populated centers. In these cases, instances are to be taken under ownership by Foundation assets, closed off to all public access under appropriate cover stories, and must be guarded by heightened on-site security.
If access to the non-anomalous interiors of SCP-XXXX-2 instances are deemed necessary for any reason, all necessary activity must be performed by drones if possible, or, if absolutely necessary, humans in groups of 20 or more, all maintaining close proximity and direct observation of each other.
Testing of SCP-XXXX-2 instances with Scranton Reality Anchors has demonstrated limited success in temporarily neutralizing some of the anomalous properties of XXXX-2. However, due to the limited availability of Anchors, the lower average threat of SCP-XXXX-2 once in containment, the large number and variety of XXXX-2 instances, and the potential hindrance of escape to surviving trapped civilians, few locations may be equipped with Anchors, to be determined on a case-by-case basis.
[Additional Information Classified. Level 3 Security Credentials Required]
Description:
SCP-XXXX is currently divided into 4 subcategories. Information on each is classified to separate security clearance levels, listed below.
SCP-XXXX-1: Level 2
SCP-XXXX-2: Level 2
SCP-XXXX-3: Level 3
SCP-XXXX-4: Level 3, with additional sensitive information classified to Level 4.
SCP-XXXX appears to be a pocket dimension connected between numerous anomalous buildings or structures across North America/the world. The pocket dimension itself is identified as SCP-XXXX-1. The anomalous structures are identified as SCP-XXXX-2. SCP-XXXX-2 instances are buildings of various types and sizes, typically no smaller than a large residential home, and more commonly are mansion or medium office building sized. These structures generally maintain an ordinary appearance to observers, and range across most categories of buildings, though unoccupied and museum/historical buildings appear to be somewhat disproportionately affected. The number of SCP-XXXX-2 instances currently identified is ████. Many new identifications of SCP-XXXX-2 are of structures were known not to be anomalous until a very recent date, indicating that new SCP-XXXX-2 instances form periodically from existing buildings.
SCP-XXXX-1 instances’ anomalous properties can manifest when any sentient living being is inside the interior of the building. SCP-XXXX-2’s anomalous effect captures single separate individuals the majority of the time, with fewer but ample cases affecting small groups of humans as well. SCP-XXXX-2 has not shown clear evidence of anomalous effects on large groups of humans in excess of ~15 persons. This has led to the working theory that the anomaly only affects smaller groups. SCP-XXXX-2’s effects manifest when one or a small number of humans, and likely any other sentient being, leaves the direct observation of others in or outside the building. The effect is not immediate, and appears to take varying amounts of time, though generally a few minutes or longer. Only living humans in direct sight have been determined to “count” as observers - attempts to use surveillance equipment to suppress the anomalous effect were deemed unsuccessful.
When the aforementioned conditions are met, the affected individuals are transferred to SCP-XXXX-1. Victims are generally not initially aware anything has changed, and their surroundings will initially appear the same. However, moving from room to room will reveal significant changes from the original structure’s interior, generally first perceived as a rearrangement of rooms and halls. SCP-XXXX-1 appears to create a new interior structure, based on the corresponding SCP-XXXX-2 instance, but far in excess of the size of the original building. The pocket dimension does not obey conventional physics and geometry; for example, records and accounts include trapped victims arriving in a room they had already been in, after traveling in a direction and distance that should not have led back to the previous room.
It has been determined from observations and records from within SCP-XXXX-1 that the pocket dimension likely connects between all instances of SCP-XXXX-2. Conversely, this means all SCP-XXXX-2 instances are entrances to the same pocket dimension of SCP-XXXX-1. Some humans trapped in SCP-3981-1 have eventually, after extensive traveling, found themselves in an interior based on a fundamentally different type of building than the original one they entered, indicating that it is based on a different instance of SCP-XXXX-2.
It is possible for trapped victims to eventually escape from SCP-XXXX-1. When this occurs, they will appear inside an instance of SCP-XXXX-2. No particular cause for this has been identified. It is possible to escape SCP-XXXX from a different SCP-XXXX-2 instance than the one originally entered. One documented civilian escaping from SCP-XXXX had originally entered an instance of SCP-XXXX-2 in the United Kingdom and emerged from an instance in the Republic of China.
Escape from SCP-XXXX is rare, currently accounting for roughly 3% of all documented missing persons attributed to SCP-XXXX.
