Item #: SCP-5077

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: When not in use, SCP-5077 is to kept within a standard containment locker at site**. When stored, SCP-5077 is to be kept within its fabric sleeve with access requiring Level 2 security clearance and written approval from a Level 3 project manager.

Description: SCP-5077 is a royal-blue folding hand fan of 180mm in length when closed and opens to a 135-degree angle. The blades of SCP-5077 are decorated with patterned holes and a string tassel attached to the pin holding the blades together.

SCP-5077 was found with a non-descript cloth sleeve in matching colour however no anomalous properties have been observed from the sleeve since containment.

When in use, SCP-5077 exponentially amplifies the ambient temperature of the air it pushes out in. SCP-5077 has shown to be unaffected by any of the temperature changes it causes, except for remaining notably colder to the touch regardless of external sources of heat.

Data gathered from testing has found that approximately; 17.4 degrees celsius or lower produces an endothermic reaction; 18.7 degrees celsius produces an exothermic reaction; while the range between these two figures has minimal or no effect on the output temperature.

Recovery: A series of temperature anomalies over a period of 1 month in the summer of 20██ led to Foundation staff investigating the town of D██████████, F███, where SCP-5077 was discovered by researcher C█████.

Agent N██████, who was the accompanying field agent, witnessed C█████ pick SCP-5077 off the ground after complaining about the heat of an area supposedly having turned into a miniature arctic tundra the week before and proceeded to use SCP-5077 in an attempt to cool down.

By the time SCP-5077 had been waved twice the resulting heatwave instantaneously vaporized researcher C█████'s cerebral fluid, causing a pressure explosion within C█████'s cranium that ruptured the left-hand side of his parietal.

Agent M████ and researcher P██, who were in the adjacent room, suffered moderately severe heat rashes, before assisting N██████ in recovering SCP-5077 and C█████'s body as the wallpaper of the room had ignited from the sudden heat.1

C█████'s body was released following standard observational period to ensure no secondary effects of SCP-5077.2

Incident report (appropriate date)

Volcanic activity/test accident at site?? (Find appropriate site)
SCP-5077 used in conjunction with liquid nitrogen fueled cooling system to cool down lava flow
Successful results.

(There's a port town that almost got closed in due to lava flow that would've locked off the port, can't remember the name, might've been Vestmannaeyjar)

Addendum: Due to the success of SCP-5077's use in incident (^^^) prompted the suggestions of using SCP-5077 as/to

  • a controlled thermal heating system (rejected due to the proposed system failing hazard/risk assessment procedures)
  • termination attempt on SCP-682 due to the instantaneous thermal reaction (termination attempt failed (Get original writer's permission for this))
  • an emergency response to further volcanic activity or temperature based SCP's (review in progress)
