SCP-XXXX instance at Site-188
Item #: SCP-XXXX
Special Containment Procedures: A specialized detachment of MTF Zeta-65 ("Name") is to be permanently stationed at key locations along the Mississippi and Louisiana Gulf Coasts known to contain large SCP-XXXX populations. Moreover, Foundation web-crawlers are to monitor popular social media platforms and news outlets for mentions of search-terms believed to describe SCP-XXXX related phenomena. Once identified, these sightings are to be publicly discredited as hoaxes or suppressed outright. Captured SCP-XXXX instances are to be transported to Site-188 for further study.
Description: SCP-XXXX is an anomalous sub-species of Varanus niloticus1 endemic to the southern United States, specifically the region surrounding the Mississippi Gulf Coast and New Orleans metropolitan area. SCP-XXXX's foremost divergence from non-anomalous members of its species first manifests fourteen months after birth, whereupon four alate protuberances will become visible on the subjects upper back and mid-dorsal crest. Over a period of three weeks, these protuberances will develop into fully functional wing-like appendages, allowing SCP-XXXX to engage in limited aerial movement.
SCP-XXXX's secondary anomalous property concerns its digestive system, which exhibits several unorthodox physiological properties. SCP-XXXX's stomach occupies approximately 50% of its body-mass, allowing subjects to consume an unnaturally large amount of material with minimal physical consequence. Additionally, SCP-XXXX produces no gastric acid, instead incinerating excess digestive material through a previously unobserved biological process known as fulminated digestion2. This function is nonirritant, and occurs through the periodic ignition3 of a combustible liquid secreted by SCP-XXXX's parietal cells.
