London Livery Companies and the Chaos Insurgency
The Livery Companies of the City of London. That's our modern name. Before that, we were the Livery Companies of Great Britain. If we move back past the Protestant reformation, we were known as the Livery Guilds of England. And then, if you kept going all the way back before the Norman conquest in 1066, we were known as The Redeemed Freemen And Liverymen Guilds Of The Kingdom Of England. A bit wordy, that one. Before Æthelstan's unification of the Anglo-Saxon heptarchy, we were the Liverymen Of Wessex And Mercia. All records from before 648 were destroyed; the reason for their destruction was documented, but that documentation was also destroyed. (Vaccination)
Since their origin, the Livery Companies have been guilds of tradesmen. We oversaw the operations of our constituents, ensuring that all workers were given free and equal treatment… or, at least, as close as could be obtained in a given cultural climate. At the present time, the public overseers of the Livery Companies are the Court of Aldermen of the City of London; people who also organise the administration of the entire city. The Court of Aldermen has existed in its current form since 1227. The position of Shadow Alderman, however, is a lot older.
While our public face has always been that of a trade guild, we also operated confidentially as… guardians, of sorts. The old legends of pagan rituals in the British Isles were embellished stories of our operations. The title of Shadow Alderman equates to the ancient position of the 'Evil Elder;' the ones who would spend their lives placating the impossible. Modern groups such as the Foundation and GOC are under the faulty impression that the anomalous and the impossible have only started to proliferate within the last few centuries. That's because we've been taking care of the impossible for the last few millennia. The lofty goals of these organisations - to contain, or destroy - were not possible thousands of years ago. All we could do to protect the common man was satiate the desires of twisted monsters, hoping and praying their efforts would be enough. We were the ones who served immortal demons. We were the ones who killed children in their sleep, trickling their blood across sacrificial steel. We were the ones who worshipped evil gods. (Vaccination)
Moving on, then. In 1979, a man going by the name of Archibald Mirum was elected our head by the previous Shadow Alderman of the Livery Companies. Mirum was, at the time, known to be a senior member of three other Hidden Chantries: The Foundation, The University of Alexylva, and the Chaos Insurgency. Upon his election, he began to fold the Insurgency into the Liveries, resulting in the modern incarnation of both organisations. (Vaccination)
The Liveries were useful to the Insurgency as a covert information net, and the Insurgency had always been a group of concern to the Liveries. With the Insurgency being a subset of the Liveries, we could better restrict their actions. We reformed them into their current incarnation: a global terrorist network for the purpose of stress-testing the other agencies under Mirum's control. The Foundation, Mirum thought, needed an opposing force to thicken their skin. When he rose to power within the Global Occult Coalition, he saw similar flaws, and diversified our goals. Conveniently, we are also an attractive employment opportunity for the more dangerous and subversive elements of Hidden society. This allows us to, unbeknownst to them, heavily limit their reach and potential for harm.
In our current form, the Liveries and Insurgency are heavily interconnected. Unified, the Livery Companies compose the most diverse conglomerate on the planet. We have people on every street corner and sidewalk; whether they realise what they are a part of or not. When we strike, the origin is never clear; where we infiltrate, a source of the leak is never found. From our side, the Livery Companies are very ordered, albeit an intricate and tenuously-maintained alliance. From their side, there is no origin, no endgame, no rhyme or reason to the seemingly random actions. All they can see of us is the ensuing chaos. And just as Mirum planned, this means that other Hidden Chantries now plan for almost anything. (Vaccination)

Nobody
“The one and only. And what should I call you? Do you prefer ‘Critic’? ‘Doctor’? ‘Professor’? ‘Administrator’? ‘Reverend’, even? Dare I call you ‘God’? Or, perhaps, shall we go with… ‘Nobody’?” (Nobody Dies)
Going through all the aliases in Empty Unmarked Grave:
- The Administrator of the Foundation
- Key Director and Big Boss Man, Dr. Reginald Philbert Lionel Archibald Westinghouse Wondertainment III, MD, PhD, DDS, Esq.
- Chancellor of the Alexylva University, Westinghouse
- Reverend of the Horizon Initiative, Lionel Philbert
- Acting Director of the Global Occult Coalition, Sergeant Reginald Ulysses Law
- 156th Shadow Alderman of the London Livery Companies and the Chaos Insurgency, Archibald Mirum
- The Critic
Redd… that was years ago. Long before I found the hat. You mean he actually… oh. Oh, I am so, so sorry. (Nobody Dies)
- So he was Wondertainment prior to becoming Nobody, possibly implying that it is one of his earliest roles (or even the first). It is also worth noting that the names of his other aliases have part of his Wondertainment alias.
- Possibly implying that becoming Nobody changed him mentally?
In 1979, a man going by the name of Archibald Mirum was elected our head by the previous Shadow Alderman of the Livery Companies. Mirum was, at the time, known to be a senior member of three other Hidden Chantries: The Foundation, The University of Alexylva, and the Chaos Insurgency. (Vaccination)
- So by 1979, he was already involved in the Foundation, Alexylva University, and the Chaos Insurgency. Unclear if this is prior to him becoming Nobody, though I would wager it is after.

Foundation Founders
Leventhal set out getting us backing. A simple invention here, some well invested money there, it all worked out. White and Jones set out getting us… other backing. In our previous work we'd found out some interesting things about people. Some secrets that powerful men didn't want getting out. And, with our new position helping keep secrets, we got more people asking us to deal with their secrets. Blackmail is a dirty word, but it works. Bright, Argent and Lumineux got to work cataloging the items. Light and Bright's wife, the nurse, they made sure we kept ourselves healthy. Heh. No, it's just, remembering Light. She had such unusual ideas about hygiene, for the time. Brilliant woman. Czov, Fleischer and Carnoff dealt with training the troops. Tesla and Tamlin were in charge of figuring out how to take advantage of the items, without making it obvious. (SCP-001:O5)
- Levanthal (possibly later O5-12, see Ecce Perago): Financial resources
- White and Jones: Blackmail
- Adam Bright (later O5-12), Argent (likely father of Serra Argent's mother), and Lumineux (related to the Bright Family?): Cataloging
- Sophia Light (O5-2) and Evelyn Bright: Medical care
- Czov, Fleischer, and Carnoff: Training operatives
- Tesla and Joseph Tamlin (O5-13): Application of anomalies
GoI Founders
"I gathered my highest ranking, well, we'll call them officers, to me, and we tried to figure out what we would do. They all had opinions. The Chaplain, he had gone a little crazed. Thought all these objects must be miracles sent from god, holy relics to be worshipped. Marshall and his little toady Dawkins thought there was a fortune to be made here, making and selling these things to the highest bidder. The Injun we all called Bass, due to his deep speaking voice, he called these things an abomination, and declared that we should hunt down and destroy everything we could find. And Smith thought we should take this stuff back to the president. The only one without an opinion was the old man, but he never said much of anything anyways." (SCP-001 - The Factory)
"The Chaplain snuck away in the night with his devotees, taking a couple of small items with him. Marshall we kicked out when we found him… abusing his authority. He promised he'd get revenge, and that little Dawkins shit led the rest of their group off with some of the juicier items. Bass and his people tried to light the whole damn thing on fire, then just left when it didn't work. And Smith left, to report back to the president." (SCP-001 - The Factory)
"The old man is a self inserting character, like Fred, who shows up in almost all of my stories. See "where do story arcs go when they die." Hes a living fictional entity." (AdminBright, link)
So:
- The Chaplain: Church of the Broken God
- Marshall and Dawkins: Marshall, Carter and Dark Ltd
- Bass: Global Occult Coalition
- Smith: Unusual Incidents Unit

Timeline
c. 1st century AD: Joseph Tamlin becomes the founder of the Bright Family.
1835: James Anderson builds his Factory.
1875: The O5-1's group is enlisted by President Grant to attack the Factory
- Following this, the group splits, with members forming different Groups of Interest
Pre-20th century: Adam Bright turns his still-born daughter Sarah Bright into SCP-321.
1911: The Faeries attack the Factory. They are repelled by the Foundation through a pact with the Factory.
- Following this, the Foundation abandons the Factory.
Pre-1939: Adam Bright is promoted out of Senior Staff.
Post-1939: Evelyn leaves the Foundation when they refuse her experiments, joining Prometheus Labs.
- This takes place after Adam becomes an Overseer ("I told him that. If we couldn’t free our kids, even with the power of an Overseer?"). It also takes place before Mikell becomes an Overseer as Evelyn kills O5-6.
Early 1940s: Mikell Bright performs a mission in Nazi Germany during World War II.
1960s: Mikell Bright, working as Hand Sinister, kills Albert Smith, "Brother Earth".
Post-1960s: Mikell Bright becomes an Overseer.
Greywing / Baron
Look at all the little birds! Lord Graywing! I guess he really can see me up here! Woah! Wow. Wow. The glade is really good. You can't go there. I don't think I can go there anymore. I'm here instead. The baron said I would be good up here, and I think he was right. I'm being very good. I'm a good. So far.
The baron said up here could get helped, because of me. I said oooooh yeah, okay, yes. And Graywing said, woah, you got it, what a good idea.?!
Lord Graywing is really bird. So he can fly. With bird powers, because he's super bird. And the baron loves the plants and other things and he loves me. So the baron and Graywing did a plan. I went way up, because Graywing is so bird it's crazy and he's got all the magic.
(SCP-3982)
- Graywing: Birds and magic
- Baron: Plants
- Glade: A (extradimensional?) location where they all hang out.
- "Up here could get helped": Want to help Earth (noting what SCP-3982 does, this probably means removing filth and turning it into nature).
CRITICAL PROXIMITY WARNING – CLASS 5 ENTITY WITHIN CHANNELING RANGE
i will fucking find you, graywing. watch for falling rocks, you fucking monster. (SCP-3983)
- This (along with the rest of 3983) point to a "rivalry" between the Night Hauler and whatever the Graywing and Baron are affiliated with.
It's unclear if Graywing or the Baron are deities in the way Hauler, Sorrow and Mother are, or if there is another entity they both serve. They could also be separate deities that have simply chosen to work together.
Associated things: SCP-3892
Themes:
- Nature, cycle of life? (to contrast with the unstoppability of the Hauler)
Mother
SCP-3895 is a Category 4 hostile hyperphysical entity which has successfully achieved corporeal manifestation within conventional reality. It is actively attempting to assimilate all life on Earth.
Within physical reality, SCP-3895 exists as a morphologically variable gestalt of biological organisms, all of which are subservient to and controlled by SCP-3895's metaphysical components. (SCP-3895)
Associated things: SCP-3897, SCP-3895
Themes:
- Hatred, violence, instinctuality, chaos, flesh monsters
Night Hauler
SCP-3899 is a very old god. Not as old as some others, and definitely not as powerful, but still a god. It's a manifestation of freedom, perpetuity of motion, and unstoppability. A long time ago, it was the first stray particle. Then it was an asteroid. Then a comet. Then a landslide, a rogue wave, a charioteer, a taxi driver, and now a trucker, among others, whenever it has chosen a physical form.
The only things it cares about are motion, continuance, and the ability of thinking things to be free, and while it's generally not hostile, it will fight when it feels that oppression in significant amounts is evident, or if anything attempts to restrain it. (SCP-3899: Discussion)
Associated things: SCP-3884, SCP-3885, SCP-3893
Themes:
- Freedom, unstoppability, individuality, guns (and in a way technology, but the kind that goes BOOM, not the computer kind)
SCP-3983
option 1: sacrifice yourself and willingly sign on for an eternity of pain helping the Sorrow hold up the metaphysical and conceptual framework upon which all Humanity is constructed. this will not be fun. it will not be easy. but you will know that you are the bedrock that supports human existence, and you get to fight an endless war for justice against the forces of mankind's fouler nature. if you're into that kind of thing. (Cadaver's author page commentary)
option 2: throw yourself into wild abandon and be embraced by Mother, where you will live an unlife of fury, hatred, hunger, and gleeful slaughter, fighting desperately for a chance to commune with the Unrest herself and become one with the darker, more visceral side of mankind. it's a lot of fun, if your soul is strong enough to avoid being crushed or devoured by those who have been there longer. (Cadaver's author page commentary)
option 3: move on. nobody knows what'll happen to you. it's death, nothing's certain. but good luck anyway.
- Maybe ties in with Graywing / Baron? Not much proof though.
secret option 4: refuse everything and choose to persist for yourself. this will attract the attention of the entity known to some as the Night Hauler, who finds that kind of thing really, really admirable. i'm not sure what'll happen to you, but chances are it'll be totally badass. (Cadaver's author page commentary)
Sorrow
A very long time ago, a life, at some point, learned to care for others like it. Not all others, as organisms have to eat, but it gained an awareness of its kin. And it cared for them. It was primitive, but a bond was formed.
And as expected, that bond ended in death. That life felt a new pain. Not a pain of the body, but a pain of the soul. Grief. Loss. Mourning.
There is beauty in hardship. Every loss is a tale, a tapestry, and the threads are love, companionship, courage, and perseverance. The things that make life what it is. It was sorrow that solidified life's ability to see itself, to look inward for the first time, to observe and understand something that was beyond eating, or mating, or fighting. It was sorrow that taught life to remember things that had stopped existing. To reflect upon its actions, to feel shame for its wrongs and to delight in its achievements, knowing full well that Death waited right behind it. Sorrow gave life its soul. Its heart. It is the weight that pulls us down and prevents life from destroying itself in wrath or hedonism or terror.
It is in Sorrow that we will find our salvation, and be reminded of what truly makes us human. (SCP-3894)
EoI-089, tentatively designated SCP-3894-Alpha, is a Category 4 thaumaturgic and hyperphysical entity, referred to by members of GoI-089 and STF Sigma-01 as “The Sorrow”, “The Bearer of the Burden”, and “The Withered King”.
Early-stage thaumaturgical scanning of SCP-3894-Alpha has revealed a considerable amount of conceptual energy contained within its corporeal frame, when manifested. The majority of this energy is encoded with markers that coincide with EoI-090, a number of known Keter-level SCPs, anti-thaumic exponents of significant value, and several codons corresponding with Earth and all extant forms of life with humanity as a focal point, at an Association Magnitude of 9.8. This, compared to thaumic scans of other similar entities accessible to the Foundation, has led to the conclusion that SCP-3894-Alpha is conceptually and metaphysically interlinked with life on Earth to such an extent that its existence is necessary for human civilization to exist in its current state. (SCP-3894)

All-Mighty / Creator
"The guardian of the Tree of Life was Hakhama, the Great Voice, who was later named Sophia, kept watch over its gifts. She taught the proper use of knowledge, and methods by which life might be extended through copper and bronze, and would speak often the directives of the All-Mighty." (Beneath Two Trees)
- So the All-Mighty has directives, i.e. has issued orders.
"Hevel, son of Adam, took up his sword, and the floodgates of the sky opened up with a Flood that would wipe time itself clean. And in doing so, the All-Mighty called upon the world, for the first time since the Word was spoken. And the world was called upon to witness." (Beneath Two Trees)
- Further proof that the All-Mighty is capable of action. Also, the reference to "Word" ties into the Christian God.
"I could go no farther beyond the elder gods, and the Light I saw beyond my grasp remained ever thus. Thus it is said 'He knew the length of his arms,' and also 'He stood in the shadow of the All-Mighty.'" (Vision At Betar)
- Implies the Light and All-Mighty are the same or at least connected.
Brothers Death
All-Death
“From the darkness came the Eldest, the All-Death. He came from the darkness and was of the darkness and was the darkness, and nothing to come might pass beyond him. Vast and mighty was he, that no other might comprehend the reach of his arm, or the length of his gaze. The Eldest sat by the light and watched it for a time, for he found the light good. The All-Death was not proud, firstborn though he was. He encompassed all that was and would be within the light and the dark, and so knew the manner of its turning and the hour of its passing. Only he might care for the light and what was to come, for only the Death of All Things might reach so far and be so just.” (Chapter 1: Verse 1)
- It says that the Brothers came from "the darkness", though it's is not specified if this is the Darkness Above or the Darkness Below, which should have existed by now.
“The Eldest rose, and towered over his brothers. His countenance was as dark as the void of his birth and his robes as white as the same. Above his head, shadows swirled about in the dark vaults of the heavens – the first of the elder gods kicked in their womb, and likewise in the abyss beneath his feet they swam.” (Chapter 1: Verse 1)
Great Death
“From the darkness then came the Great Death, the Middle Brother. He was not so mighty nor as vast as the Eldest, though his reach was wide indeed. His domain was to be catastrophe, and thus his face was obscured by wrought metal and stone. Mountainlike he came, the Death of the multitudes, and his heralds came with him – their names were Conquest and War and Famine and Disease.” (Chapter 1: Verse 1)
- Reference to SCP-1295?
Small Death
“From the darkness now came the Small Death, the Youngest Brother, pale of face and dark of robe, hard of eye and strict of hand. A silver sickle he carried, and it was by this tool that each soul born would be collected.” (Chapter 1: Verse 1)
“The Youngest did not approach his elder brothers, but remained apart from them. He was small in reach and mind, and his thoughts were narrow, such that the mind of the Middle was terrible to him, and the mind of the Eldest more horrible still.” (Chapter 1: Verse 1)
Elder Gods
“Above his head, shadows swirled about in the dark vaults of the heavens – the first of the elder gods kicked in their womb, and likewise in the abyss beneath his feet they swam.” (Chapter 1: Verse 1)
“In the time when The Tree of Knowledge was planted, all things were given form. Even the deep waters of the Darkness Below and the vaults of Darkness Above took shape and form, and many elder gods were born of them.” (Dust and Blood)
“These gods also bore neither crowns nor facets: they needed no signs of authority, for they were old gods, and they had no facets, for they were immutable. They were few in number compared to the gods who wore facets and the gods who stood before Yesod-With-Faces, but their power filled me with awe. Speaks-With-Self spoke to me then, and said ‘Their age has rendered them mighty, but they are separated. See, their Ways are few, and they do not bicker about about like the gods who wear facets and the gods who stand before Yesod-With-Faces.’” (The Vision At Betar)
- “The Eldest Gods, the ones with the real power, sit around and do nothing. What else is new?” (Vision At Betar)
- It’s unclear if these guys are the same as elder gods, as Saturn Deer calls them the “Eldest Gods” and later the “lower elders”. Possibly gods that escaped from the Darkness Below?
- “I realized that the gods who did not wear facets were scattered amongst the lesser roots and old Ways, and this was the cause of their dissolution.” (Vision At Betar)
“Upon the summit, upon the uppermost Way, I beheld the visages of the elder gods: the Secret’s spirit within the word-womb protected my sight, for I would have been struck down without. I was dwarfed in their presence: each was crowned with itself, a crown without facet or flaw or change. Here stood the oldest, those that would span the entirety of creation, who could be called upon in any realm lower, for their power ran deep, and they were mighty to behold. They were slow to act, and subtle in action, for they knew their power, and withheld their full might, lest they destroy those lower regions of the Tree.” (Vision At Betar)
- “'Too powerful and subtle' my ass, they're all just a bunch of rotten cowards. Old fruit isn't the same as good fruit, that's a lesson Jeremiah never learned.” (Vision At Betar)
- These are probably the elder gods created from the Darkness Above.
Scarlet King
“Of these gods, whose names are oft forgotten, there was Khahrahk. Khahrahk was not great upon his formation: in truth he was small. He crawled around in the darkness of the abyss, but unlike his brothers and sisters, he knew himself and knew the abyss. So blessed and cursed by awareness, he felt pain and loneliness, and looked beyond the depths: but the thought of the light and the shade of the tree pained him more. Existence was pain, and he would have no part of it. It would be better to not exist. It would be better for all things not to exist. Upon this vow, he consumed his brothers and sisters, and grew strong on their essences. This act, this first sin of Khahrahk, caused him greater pain as he himself grew greater. He grew blind by his pain. So great was his spite and so absolute his hate, that he cursed the Creation and its Creator, and vowed to destroy the Tree and all that it supported in its branches and roots.” (Dust and Blood)
“He clawed his way up to his throne on the bones of his fellow gods in those dark aeons. Many other gods born of the Darkness Below died in these times, or chose to leave those shadowed realms to work within Creation. Those that remained grew old and powerful, but they were bound in subjugation under Khahrahk. When there were no more gods to subjugate in the lower realms, Khahrahk declared himself King of the Darkness Below, and took the name Khnith-hgor, and set the boundaries of his kingdom. This kingdom he built to bring utter despair to those who lived among the Tree and its roots and branches, to share his pain with all of Creation as he destroyed it. He diverted many souls to his realm, delivering pain untold upon them as they were stayed from their true rest. With the borders of his realm set down, the King declared his war. His servants, and there were many, those birthed of the Darkness Below or those that had fallen to the King’s service, surged out of his kingdom, and there was war with Creation. This war continues to this day, and shall not end until the end of all things.” (Dust and Blood)
“Of the gods the King had subjugated, Sanna was considered to be the wisest and most beautiful. She had not remained in the King’s realm willingly, but her escape had been prevented by circumstance. She obeyed the king with her words, but not with her soul, and for this goodness she is mourned. With the war declared, the King took Sanna by force, and lay with her for seven days and seven nights, until the Mother of Those Beneath Us was broken beneath the King. When this was completed, he rose in her blood, and was from then on known as Shormaush Urdal - the Scarlet King. Seven children were born of Sanna, seven daughters of the Scarlet King emerging from her broken womb. The King saw this, and took them by force to be his brides. Upon the seven brides the King put seven seals, so that they might never die as Sanna had died. With them, the King gave rise to seven ranks of abominations, seven orders of Leviathans, who became his most beloved servants, who march at the front of his war.” (Dust and Blood)
Stars
“Creation was made of fire and song, and from the glowing clouds of the beginning came the Stars. They were the firstborn of matter, the sustainers of all Creation. In their bright-burning forges the heavier elements were formed, and the music of the spheres was carried upon their mighty thoughts. They measured the boundaries of the cosmos and set forth the orders of the celestial geometries by their song, and the Clusters of the Main Sequence were in harmony.” (The Star and the Smith)
- So, unlike the Elder Gods, the Stars are not born from the Darkness, but the Fire and Song.
“As the Elders are distant from us, little Star, we too shall be distant from those who follow upon the firmament." (The Star and the Smith)
- Meaning that the Stars are below the Elder Gods.
Yesod
“‘I build the foundation of creation, O Star. Yesod the Many-Faced.’ Anghammarad now set aside hammer and tongs and shaped the soft metal with his hands. He shaped it into a shape of twenty sides, and upon each point was a bead like water. Within the shape there was a hollowness that did shift and sway. Anghammarad swirled the smoke about him, and drew out with his fingers shimmering Ways. He wove these to the metal shape, to its facets and beads, stringing them together in tapestry. The Ways formed a labyrinth that fell across Yesod, burrowing into its matter, and faded from sight.” (The Star and the Smith)
“Speak-With-Self’s words opened up a tear which wept, and upon stepping through I was draped in its ragged truth and saw the gods who wore facets, for they are of the scarred sphere with many faces. These faces bellowed long-songs, and engaged in debate at length with each other, and the meanings of them I could not understand. Upon the many brows was inscribed the name “Yesod-With-Faces”, for they were the foundation of what was above. It [Yesod-With-Faces] was pierced through by seven taproots, and their way-names were True-Record, Succession-of-Peoples, Arts-of-Fiction, Home-of-Word-men, House-of-Small-Gods, and Forgotten-Tales. The seventh’s true name was not to be uttered, for it was beyond the tongues of gods to pronounce, but it had been called Gift once. These roots led up to Knowledge, which towered above Yesod-With-Faces, and in this formed the foundation of a mighty tree, and I realized that the gods who did not wear facets were scattered amongst the lesser roots and old Ways, and this was the cause of their dissolution.” (Vision At Betar)
- “From what little I can gleam for this, at the base of creation Jeremiah found the seven disputing foundation-gods, "Yesod-With-Faces", upon which the rest of creation is built. As gods are want to do, they're arguing with themselves and with other gods and they can never just be happy to sit in the shade and have a nice drink or something.” (Vision At Betar)
Able and Cain
We came next, my brothers and I, and the first men to see with their own eyes the world they had been born into. The mothers of the world cared for us, in our infancy - the wolf, the bear, the sow, the lion. As we grew we learned, and gave ourselves names. We wandered the world, marveling at its mysteries and reveling in the life we had been given. There was no greater serenity than what we felt in those early days. (SCP-4840)
- In reference to Able, Cain and Seth.
The first betrayal came from his sons. His eldest envied his father's crown, and demanded it pass to him. He raised an army and savaged his father's lands, laying waste to the world of men by the sword and the torch, but he was struck down by Asem and locked in a stone tomb deep beneath the earth. The middle son spoke passionately to the people of that world, calling upon sense and reason to demand his father pass the crown to him. The kingdom bent their knee to the middle son and worshiped him as their god, but Asem cursed him to poison the land and his followers. He was exiled, forced to wander the desolate places of the world until the sun went down in the east. (SCP-4840)
Adam Bright
We were able to get this thread to manifest itself using a series of high energy pulses directed at a tiny piece of Ozymandium film. This method was borrowed from Dr. Adam Bright and his team in the United States, who have been working on a similar project in the hopes of eliciting what they’re calling tachyons, the uh, the fundamental building block of time, as it were. (The Way It Ends: O5-11)
- This and the picture on the same page seem to imply that Adam was one of the founding members of the Foundation.
“Adam Bright, maybe. Last we heard he was operating out of that site in Michigan, but it could’ve been him. He wouldn’t know how to get into the secure site, though.” (The Way It Ends: O5-6)
- This would imply that Adam wasn't part of (at least the original) Overseer Council. He also didn't defect with Aaron.
Dr. Adam Bright
Department of Abnormalities (To Never Again See The Light Of Day)
- So Adam is/was involved with the DoA in some way.
Adam El Asem
He was called Asem, and he was golden and beautiful. With his hands he could build mountains, with his feet he could cross the wide plains, and with his voice he could call the sea to bear. His laughter was light and powerful, like the whisper of a thunderstorm on the horizon, and he carried a lance they say could kill gods. He saw with eyes that peered past the heavens, into the worlds beyond. We called him Asem because the word meant "IS", and we believed he was the joy of creation given form. (SCP-4840)
But within him grew the first vice - envy. He looked to the skies and wished them to be his. Even while we built this city, the first and greatest city of man, he longed for more. His reach extended to creation itself, and he was the first to push past the order of the cosmos and take something from another world.
It was a crown. He took it from another world, another existence, and declared himself the King of All That IS. On this spot, the place where IS had come to be realized, he built his seat of power. He was kind and beautiful still, but he desired ever more. He became paralyzed by this desire - incapable of thinking of anything more than the great cosmos that he demanded answer to his beck and call. (SCP-4840)
- I was a boy when I gazed into the night sky of a young universe and asked my father for a star all my own. He reached out and pulled for me an iron crown, and that crown seeded the foulness that lingers in the hearts of men. It drove my father to madness, my brothers to butchery, and led to the ruination of our kingdom. (SCP-4840)
Finally, the last son came into his father's room while he slept and took the crown from his head. It was the greatest betrayal, for the father loved no living thing more than his youngest. The youngest son slipped away into the night as his father's kingdom fell into ruin, and as Asem turned the world into a smoking waste we disappeared into the shadows, those few who followed the youngest son.
We fled into the night for a thousand years, hunted by Asem and his two eldest sons. They desired nothing more than the crown, and would turn the heavens and earth to find it. But it was hidden, kept away from them until they faded into legend and then into myth. (SCP-4840)
Prisoner Name: Adam El Asem
Incarceration: Active
Date of Incarceration: 7-Moon 3-Cycle 4301-Rotation
Sentence: Endless Rotation
SCP-2932-A Notes: This one was a Child of the Sun, but the Children of the Sun abhorred him as much as the Children of the Night. Adam El Asem could will things into existence with a glance, could move mountains and dry riverbeds by touching them. Something great and terrible lived within his mind, and the Children wasted no time lashing him to the stone and giving him to Titania. There were others like him, dangerous Children of the Sun from the East, but they are not here. There is a cell reserved here for the one with desolation in his steps, and one for the other. I do not expect to fill them. (SCP-2932)
- The "something great and terrible" probably refers to Adam's endless envy.
The first of those great kings, Harrian Von Apollyon I, is said to have descended from the blood of the King of Crimson Skies (often called Asem - the First Man), a legendary figure in the writings of the three Archmaesters of King Richard the Lionheart's court. (SCP-4812)
It was said that the night Adam El Asem took Eve as his wife, she had dreamed of Eden as she conceived her first son, and it was born with he. When the child had grown, Adam longed for a sword to put in his hand, and the Garden had provided it. When the Children of the Night and the mournful gods bore down on the world of Men, the Garden had sheltered them. Eden was such that, endless a space as it was, anyone within it was never far from wherever they wanted to be. (The Way It Ends: O5-2)
- Only mention of Eve that I know of.
Audapaupadopolis
We were few then, in a world of infinite mystery. The haze of creation hung heavily over this planet for such a long time, but in that haze we learned many great truths. We studied and watched and learned, for millions and millions of years. When we had learned what we could, we came here, to this place, and built this city—the city of Audapaupadopolis. The first city. Here, right here, at this spot, this is where that which IS came to be. (SCP-4840)
Impossibly powerful women and men walked the streets of Audapaupadopolis then. Myself and my brothers, the man with eyes of wonder, the king with the scarlet cloak, the serpent and his brother, the dragons and lords of the sky, the envoy from Saturn and so many others. The god of iron and the god of flesh took counsel in these halls, and the king of dreams kept his watch in the night. But the greatest of them all was the First King of Men. (SCP-4840)
- The people mentioned here:
- "The man with eyes of wonder": Dr. Wondertainment (probably the first one)
- "The king with the scarlet cloack": The Scarlet King
- "The serpent and his brother": The Serpent of the Wanderer's Library and SCP-3000
- "The dragons and lords of the sky": Not sure about this, probably no one in specific.
- "The envoy from Saturn": SCP-2845
- "The god of iron and the god of flesh": Mekhane and Yaldabaoth
I hid myself in the ruined halls of my father, but it was not long before the Sky Kings found me. Xorus was his name, and he raised an army to march on Audapaupadopolis and demand I give him my father's lance. Even if I'd wanted to I could not - though I did not want to - because the weapon had been lost with my father sometime during the dark age of the world. When I told him this, Xorus Apollyon threatened to turn this city over to find it. But there are still secrets here, greats truths locked away down below, and so in my grief I called upon the last of the titans that still walked the earth - the great dragon Bharata, and together we raised the city into the sky, forever separating it from the men of the earth. (SCP-4840)
I was not exaggerating when I told you. This place is where IS was realized. This is where IS came to be. My father built his seat of power over the place where the greatest authority of all authorities came to rest at the beginning of all things. We called that place the Old Library, and within it is the First Book. It's not truly a book, but that is maybe the easiest way to describe it. You spoke of the Serpent's Library earlier - that is the greatest collection of knowledge in the entire cosmos, and it has grown across space and time, across dimensions, and across realities. The texts in those halls describe IS and all that IS. The First Book does not just describe IS, it IS. It holds the most fundamental truths, those never intended to be understood by man or beast. How. Why. Those and more. In truth, I have tried and failed to read that book and know those truths. I believed once that if I could, I could right the wrongs of this world, but I was a confused child and knew nothing. I nearly lost myself once in the Other Book, and in it I grew old. (SCP-4840)
- There are two books in the Old Library. The First Book, and the Other Book. The Other Book is the book of IS NOT. It too contains truths, truths of things that cannot be. Truths that do not exist. Dark truths. Old truths. My sorcery protects the Old Library now, but a day will come when it finally fails. There are those who know what is here and would seek to find it. (SCP-4840)
Crown of Apollyon / Apollyon's Crown
It was a crown. He took it from another world, another existence, and declared himself the King of All That IS. On this spot, the place where IS had come to be realized, he built his seat of power. He was kind and beautiful still, but he desired ever more. He became paralyzed by this desire - incapable of thinking of anything more than the great cosmos that he demanded answer to his beck and call. (SCP-4840)
- This ties into the stuff in Atonement about anomalies originating from different realities.
I was a boy when I gazed into the night sky of a young universe and asked my father for a star all my own. He reached out and pulled for me an iron crown, and that crown seeded the foulness that lingers in the hearts of men. It drove my father to madness, my brothers to butchery, and led to the ruination of our kingdom. Without that crown, Sarrus XIII might not have crossed the sea. Without the crown, Harrian's lineage might have been able to fight off the Children of the Night when they came across the sea. There is no more hateful a thing, no greater abhorrence than that crown. It is the seed at the root of evil-
Finally, the last son came into his father's room while he slept and took the crown from his head. It was the greatest betrayal, for the father loved no living thing more than his youngest. The youngest son slipped away into the night as his father's kingdom fell into ruin, and as Asem turned the world into a smoking waste we disappeared into the shadows, those few who followed the youngest son. (SCP-4840)
So I crowned him with the iron crown of my father and called him Apollyon - the King Over The Darkness. He built his great halls and his great temples and libraries and in time all of Old Europ kneeled to the High King. When Harrian passed and his crown came to his son Uvan, I took my leave and returned to the east - to this city, the city of my father and my brothers. For the first time in ten-thousand years I could rest, and I did. (SCP-4840)
The crown is lost, swallowed whole when the Profane Dark took Sarrus IX into its maw. (SCP-4840)

The Morning Star
Room One [Level Four]
Placard Name: The Morning Star
Description: A rusted sword hangs on a rack in the back of the room. The door to the chamber feels warm. (SCP-3790)
When he finally came to rest on the crater floor, he moved swiftly towards its epicenter. There, resting where it had for ten thousand years, was the crumpled form of an angel, its armor crushed from the impact and twisted. Despite the thin layer of ash that coated its form and obscured its features, the shining words on its helm were still visible: Star of the Morning.
Laying not far behind it was something glittering in the dirt, half buried in the ground but gleaming as if it was new. A golden sword, radiating with heat and power. (The Way It Ends: O5-2)
//He turned, reached into his jacket, and pulled out a gleaming golden sword. As he held it in his outstretched hand, a tormented scream leapt from within the blade and it caught fire, bright white flames licking up the edge. // (The Way It Ends: O5-2)
Mr. Silence
Room One [Level Six]
Placard Name: Mr. Silence
Description: A tall, black, wooden box rests against the back wall. It is bound in chains and locks. A bright purple "W" is emblazoned on its front in gold trim. (SCP-3790)
Besides, what you want is something that can’t be returned. You want to talk about deals with devils? The pact we made with it was simple, Bertrand. To never again see the light of day. Those are unbreakable bonds. A thing that cannot be undone.” He paused. “I’m sorry. Today has been hard enough on you as is. But we both agreed when you handed it over to me that I would put it somewhere that it couldn’t be found. That it wouldn’t ever be found. I promised you.” (To Never Again See The Light Of Day)
I’ll admit the theatrics with Redd were more dramatic, but I wouldn’t ever forget your firstborn.” (To Never Again See The Light Of Day)
- Interestingly, whenever anybody refers to Silence in TNASTLOD, it is colored in barely perceivable purple. Which confirms that this is referring to Silence.
“I need it back, Skitter. They want it back and they won’t give me Isabel until I give it back.” (To Never Again See The Light Of Day)
- This, and the context around it, seems to indicate that Silence originates from the Factory and was acquired by Bertrand and Skitter during their youth, possibly involving some deal between Bertrand and Factory. See entry for Dr. Wondertainment - Bertrand Wondertainment.
Crown of Apollyon
Room Four [Level 6]
Placard Name: Apollyon's Crown
Description: A silver lockbox rests on a table in the middle of the room. Notably, the exterior of the door is covered in scratch marks, as if by something trying to get into the chamber. (SCP-3790)
See entry for Crown of Apollyon.
Dr. Wondertainment
My boss, Dr. Wondertainment, is just the most recent in a long line of Wondertainments stretching back as far as history permits. In that history we've been fortunate to maintain a pretty linear progression of authority - one Dr. Wondertainment hands the mantle off to their successor, and they become Dr. Wondertainment, and so on. Granted, there have been a handful of breaks in there, but nothing wild. (SCP-4390)
Impossibly powerful women and men walked the streets of Audapaupadopolis then. Myself and my brothers, the man with eyes of wonder (SCP-4840)
- So (the possibly first) Dr. Wondertainment was around back when Audapaupadopolis was built.
- Reminiscent of Djoric's Wondertainment stuff.
Bertrand Wondertainment
What you may not know is that recently, the last Dr. Wondertainment, Isabel disappeared under mysterious circumstances. In her place, a previous Wondertainment, Bertrand, has taken over the daily operations of the company. (SCP-4390)
I didn’t tell her. I didn’t tell anyone. The only people who know are the people who were there - you and me.
Skitter barked out a laugh again. “Yeah. Younger men back then, I think. Younger men making deals with the devil. You with yours, and me with mine.” His hand idly found a spot on his forearm, under his sleeve, and he began to rub it instinctively. “Only difference is, mine can be reasoned with.” (To Never Again See the Light Of Day)
- So the implication seems to be that Bertrand and Skitter did something involving the Factory in the past. And Bertrand made some kind of "deal" with the Factory (probably involving Mr. Silence). See entry for Department of Anomalies - Mr. Silence.
- “I need it back, Skitter. They want it back and they won’t give me Isabel until I give it back.” (To Never Again See the Light Of Day)
You were always the most ambitious, in your own way. The other little people you made, they lacked pizazz. But you - you know how to steal the show. You aimed big. I like that about you, Bertrand. I like the lengths you were willing to go to. You had gall. (To Never Again See the Light Of Day)
“This is what happens when you try to create life, Bertrand. So much of yourself ends up in the things you create - they’re like a distillation of you. Your ambitions, your lusts. Your failings. Your faults. As much as you have to sacrifice to cover their mistakes, sometimes they have to make the sacrifice for you.” He shrugged. “Willingly or otherwise.” (To Never Again See the Light Of Day)
Bertrand Dupont La Fontaine Morgrave Wondertainment stepped into the light of the hearth, and pulled his hat from his head. (To Never Again See the Light Of Day)
Isabel Wondertainment
What you may not know is that recently, the last Dr. Wondertainment, Isabel disappeared under mysterious circumstances. (SCP-4390)
“See, I imagine when the Factory came calling, she didn’t even hesitate to respond. She’s proud like that, you know. Doesn’t want to ever owe anything to anyone. And headstrong, too - I bet she marched down there just as boldly as you did. But you never told her, of course. Didn’t tell her what sort of things crawl on their hollow bellies in the dark.” (To Never Again See the Light Of Day)
“Isabel is gone, Bertrand. You were in there three days, Isabel has been gone for what - three months? And look at how you came out. Half alive, missing several important parts. There’s nothing of her left in there, Bertrand.”
The older man’s jaw clenched so hard it could’ve snapped. “No. No - she might not have been able to get out, but she was still in there. I could feel it. If I could just get-” (To Never Again See the Light Of Day)
Frederick Williams
SCP-4812-S was included in the notes of Foundation Administrator Frederick Williams as a location of interest, and has been at least vaguely understood since the formation of Foundation-precursor occult investigation groups. (SCP-4812)
Great Profanities
When Sarrus IX buried the last princess of the strange folk, she cursed them with three great profanities. Restrictor, Adamant, and Dark. Watch for these three. They are the last remnants of a cursed people, a people who fled from the Children of the Sun and their iron swords, and the Children of the Night and their fell scythes. When you see these terrors, remember what I have said here. They are ancient, from a time long before your history begins. (SCP-4840)
"Profane Restrictor" Vinuvinex
Down from the far darkness came the Vinuvinex, what they called the Profane Restrictor, the first of the great profanities. The Vinuvinex cast a cold hand across the King's only daughter, and in her youth and weakness she did die.
The King took upon him the Godless Lance and came down to the Vinuvinex, and with nothing but the Mammoth's Hide between him and the infinite cold drove that sacred spear into the Vinuvinex and put it into the flaming heart of the Earth. (SCP-4812)
"Profane Adamant" Lamenellant
"The binders of blood made empty pacts with empty gods against the hollow Lamenellant, and they were cut down. The singers of songs had their voices pulled from their throats, and the legions of their twilight armies broke first their spears against the Lamenellant's hide, and then their bodies."
"And when they had been ground into dust beneath the Profane Adamant's clattering steps, it took their faces and returned to the skies." (SCP-4812)
- May hint that Lamenellant is able to steal identities/consciousnesses.
They say that the Profane Adamant has been seen again in the skies, and that the Profane Adamant was who Lancelot prayed to for strength overwhelming. Something is moving here, something that has been lying dormant for many long eons. (SCP-4840)
- Hinting a connection between Lamenellant and Lancelot, likely that Lancelot was affected by Lamenellant's ability.
- Of note - the author here sometimes writes the name "Lancelot" when it seems as if "Lamenellant" would be more appropriate. (SCP-4812)
We’ve seen an entity like SCP-4935-β before - specifically, the SCP-4812-K entity is a similar scorpioid entity, though dramatically smaller than SCP-4935-β. There are some other major physiological differences as well; larger exoskeletal plates, a wider barb at the end of its primary tail appendage, etc. Given the similarities, though, it’s difficult for us to rule out that SCP-4935-β might be the same entity at some point in that world’s future. (SCP-4935)
- The first Akot called SCP-4935-β the “annihilator with a thousand eyes”, and describe the head of the entity as having many faces joined together. The explanation I was given is that SCP-4935-β consumes creatures - humans, animals, etc, and adds their faces and, seemingly, their consciousnesses to its own. (SCP-4935)
"Profane Dark" YASH
This was the king of horrors, the Profane Dark, the one that festered in the Enemy's grave until it soaked through the earth and burst forth like a fetid tide. The curse on the Sky King's lips as it pulled him into the void called this great terror YASH, the last foe of man. Without La Hire's sword, Lancelot's mace, Hector's spear, or Ogier's faith, the full might of the sullen sorrow was brought to bear on Apollyon's broken heart, which shattered with his ruined kingdom. "Wrath," he spoke. "Wrath. Wrath. Wrath." (SCP-4812)
House of Apollyon
"Of all of those old kingdoms and empires whose names were lost to the passing of time or the cruel mechanisms of their enemies, perhaps none is greater or spoken with more respect than that of the great House of Apollyon, the Sky Kings of Old Europ. The first of those great kings, Harrian Von Apollyon I, is said to have descended from the blood of the King of Crimson Skies (often called Asem - the First Man), a legendary figure in the writings of the three Archmaesters of King Richard the Lionheart's court." (SCP-4812)
"I came into the realm of Harrian, a kindly man with a passion for knowledge and a desire to learn. He and his family were gentle and good, and every day more families flocked to his lands. Harrian and I spent many long hours speaking about the times before the darkness, about the strange wonders I had seen across the world. His sons took counsel with me, each of them as strong and noble as the last.
(SCP-4840)
The bloodmancers of the east, the Daeva and their Mad King Moros the Accursed, had taken up arms against the west and fought a thousand bloody campaigns. The House of Apollyon, the house of my friend Harrian, had taken to calling themselves the Sky Kings and were pillaging and conquering every settlement and minor lordship across the continent. In the west, rumors abounded that another race had come out of the dark forests in strength - one older even than men and with weapons built from the trees and roots themselves. War had come to the world. These ruins, these are the ones you find and cannot explain. They are old, and their meaning has long since been lost, but these wars lay the foundation of the world to come." (SCP-4840)
"The Sky Kings are said to have ruled Old Europ for a hundred generations. Though they faced opposition from the Daeva to the east and those faithful to the iron god in the south, their kingdom never faltered and their conquests were fruitful. It was the conquered foes of the House of Apollyon who first named the King Idus Von Apollyon "Sky King", for it was said his reach extended past the bounds of the earth and into the heavens above." (SCP-4812)
- So the powers during this time were
- House Apollyon: Europe and parts of the Middle East
- Daevites: Asia
- Mekhanites: Mediterranea
- Children of the Night: Southern America
- Faeries: North America
"However, over time came also complacency. In the 890th year of their rule, the Sky King Sarrus Von Apollyon VIII is said to have grown bored with ruling and demanded a conquest of another, greater realm beyond their own. In his arrogance he looked past the lands of man and towards those across the sea, where the Fair Folk were said to live. The Sky King boarded his ships and with the largest army ever assembled, drove with fury across the waves towards the continent to the west.
The Fair Folk, consumed with their own conflicts with the emergent power of the Children of the Moon to their south, did not expect the arrival of Apollyon and were consumed in a fortnight, their people scattered and their nobility stripped down and mutilated, in accordance with the customs of the conquerors. Only a single survivor of the brutality, a fae princess, was brought back in iron chains across the sea to suffer further horrors.
The princess, though, had no intentions of arriving on the far shores of Ole Europ. As the King's fleet passed the great Eye of the Sea, she cast a wicked and wild spell upon the House of Apollyon, and the Sky King in particular. As a storm came upon them and brought many men and ships to the bottom of the sea, the princess prayed to an old and nameless god for vengeance upon her captors. Legend says the princess' iron chains caught fire and burned the King's flagship to cinders, and that Sarrus VIII himself was dragged into the deep by those same chains as he tried to throw them overboard." (SCP-4812)
"The fleet, however, did return to Old Europ, where the young Sarrus Von Apollyon IX now ruled his father's kingdom. As retribution for the curse the princess had cast upon his father, Sarrus IX threw the princess into a dungeon deep beneath the earth and buried it, leaving her to rot eternally in the darkness. Afterwards, as a bulwark against the dark magics of the Fair Folk that his father's conquest may have brought upon his house, Sarrus IX appointed four great knights to defend his kingdom. They were La Hire the Fierce, Lancelot the Cunning, Hector the Stalwart and Ogier the Faithful." (SCP-4812)
IS and IS NOT
IS. That is what we called it. You have seen wonders beyond belief, I am sure, but there were only ever two true gods. IS, and IS NOT. They are not beings, not ideas. They are truths. There are things that are, and things that aren't. When the work of IS was completed, the remnant of that truth became the Serpent - a being whose purpose is only to study that from whence it came, and learn those lost truths about itself. The other, IS NOT, was a shadow of IS. The two cannot exist without each other. IS NOT encompasses IS, it is the long nothing that stretches out beyond the world and further. Together, they are the truest knowledge there is - everything that ever was or was not, all at once. When those truths were first realized, this world came into being. (SCP-4840)
- While IS is the Serpent of the Wanderer's Library, IS NOT is implied to be SCP-3000.
(SCP-4840)
Spear of the Non-Believer / Godless Lance
"This is called the Spear of the Non-Believer. It is an ancient weapon, older perhaps than even this Library. There are legends that say it was forged when the first thinking being decided to deny omnipotence. To stand alone against insurmountable might. It is very, very strange indeed." The figure made a noise that might have been laughter. "In fact, I can't even see it. How strange." (The Way It Ends: O5-10)
His laughter was light and powerful, like the whisper of a thunderstorm on the horizon, and he carried a lance they say could kill gods. (SCP-4840)
- In reference to Adam El Asem
Xorus was his name, and he raised an army to march on Audapaupadopolis and demand I give him my father's lance. Even if I'd wanted to I could not - though I did not want to - because the weapon had been lost with my father sometime during the dark age of the world. (SCP-4840)
The King took upon him the Godless Lance and came down to the Vinuvinex, and with nothing but the Mammoth's Hide between him and the infinite cold drove that sacred spear into the Vinuvinex and put it into the flaming heart of the Earth.
- So this implies that the Apollyons did acquire the spear through some way. Unclear how this works with the SCP-4840 line about the spear being lost during "the dark age of the world".
- “the godless lance of Old King Sarrus.” (The Way It Ends: O5-4)
- This further implies that the Apollyons utilized the spear. Sarrus IX did use it, though it's not clear if this refers to him.
Ever since we contained the last of the four great demons and gained access to Apollyon’s tomb, we’ve been studying the texts found there to learn more about this spear. It obviously had some importance to the king, or else it wouldn’t have been where it was and it wouldn’t have cost so much blood to get to it.”
She pulled out a remote and flashed it at the largest monitor in the room, one that hung on the far wall. It showed the interior of a tomb, dusty and dark, with the spear hanging by silver chain over a large, stone sarcophagus. (The Way It Ends: O5-4)
- Further evidence of Apollyons' connection with the spear.
"One of the oldest legends regarding the spear involved Lucifer, the figure from Christian mythology. In that story when God smote Lucifer a shard of his iron crown fell to the earth with him and was found by Cain. The same story details how Cain used the shard to kill Abel, not a rock, and that he crafted the spear out of his brother’s bones once he realized its terrible power.” (The Way It Ends: O5-4)
- Given SCP-4840, this is probably inaccurate to some degree.
- Potentially a reference to the Crown of Apollyon?
“It kills gods, Baron. If you throw it at a god, that god will die.” He waved his hands around in the air. “Poof. Just like that.” (The Way It Ends: O5-4)
