Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be contained in a 5x5x3 meter room in Site-73, with one (1) standard wooden desk and one (1) office chair. SCP-XXXX is not to be supplied with paper or ribbon unless actively being tested. Documents SCP-XXXX-1-49 should be contained in one (1) standard filing cabinet next to the desk, each within its own binder. The filing cabinet should be locked at all times unless active testing is underway. Personnel should not access SCP-XXXX for any reason except research, and not without written permission from Site Director █████ ████████. If permission is granted, all personnel involved in the research must be accompanied by one (1) armed Level 3 or higher security officer and submit to a full on-site psychological analysis after exposure.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a black 1947 Royal KMM model typewriter, with minor wear on the A,E,M and N keys, as well on the edges of the typewriter itself. SCP-XXXX was found alongside 49 separate documents (SCP-XXXX-1-49), assumed to be typed using SCP-XXXX. The documents range in length from 11 pages at the shortest (SCP-XXXX-19) to 1,897 pages at the longest (SCP-XXXX-3), but most are over 1000 pages. However, several documents seem incomplete, and as such it is unknown if more pages once existed and were lost or destroyed, or if the documents were simply never finished.

Using SCP-XXXX for brief periods of time (<15 minutes) causes no anomalous effects. Subjects are able to type anything they choose without issue. However, after typing the phrase “My name is [their name],” subjects begin experiencing anomalous effects. Usually, within 20 minutes of use, the subject feels inexplicably compelled to write this, but if they choose to write it for any reason at any time, the effects begin. After writing the aforementioned phrase, subjects become incapable of writing anything other than personal information, including but not limited to: childhood memories, personal thoughts and feelings, physical descriptions, and home addresses. This occurs regardless of whether or not they were told of the effects, told not to write their name or any personal information, or even if they were threatened with physical harm or termination.

Once affected by SCP-XXXX’s anomalous effects, subjects are progressively more difficult to extricate from the room. Writing for under 1 hour causes them to verbally express annoyance or attempt to persuade the researchers to allow them to continue, but eventually comply if reminded of their inferior rank or threatened. They tend to experience anxiety and a desire to return to writing for several hours afterwards, but eventually return to normal.

Writing for several hours (1-4, depending on the subject) causes subjects to physically resist extrication, in some cases merely attempting to break free and return to SCP-XXXX, or in some cases violently attacking anyone attempting to remove them from the room. If restrained, Subjects are able to recover from violent thoughts after anywhere between 18 hours to 3 days, and return to normal after regular psychological counseling.

Both of the previous stages result in slight to moderate memory loss concerning the incidents they wrote about while using SCP-XXXX, which gradually returns with time.

Writing for times in excess of 4 hours result in irreversible changes, and subjects are designated as instances of SCP-XXXX-A. They will become completely unresponsive to external stimuli while writing, and violently resist if removal is attempted. Restraining SCP-XXXX-A at this stage is difficult, as they will actively attempt to break out by whatever means possible, with no regard for their own bodies. Some extreme circumstances involve SCP-XXXX-A attempting to [REDACTED] to break out. Writing at this stage is properly autobiographical- starting with an unusually clear narrative describing their birth and progressing through every life event in considerable detail. SCP-XXXX-A are able to type with inhuman speeds, in excess of 600 words per minute, stopping only to replace the paper and ribbon of the typewriter. SCP-XXXX seems to not be affected by the fact that normal typewriters of its model cannot keep up with such a fast typing speed. SCP-XXXX-A will type non-stop until they expire from dehydration, usually within 2-3 days. If paper and ribbon are within easy reach, they are usually able to produce 3000+ pages. Documents SCP-XXXX-1-49 are the life stories assumed to have been typed by previous instances of SCP-XXXX-A.
