Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be placed in at Site-██ in a marked and sealed shipping container. Under no circumstances is SCP-XXXX allowed to be driven; all transport for SCP-XXXX is to be done by moving the shipping container instead of SCP-XXXX itself. Any instances of SCP-XXXX-1 are to be immediately reported to Agent ███ and administered amnestics to prevent the spread of SCP-XXXX-2, and any population group exposed to SCP-XXXX-2 are to undergo widespread amnestic treatment.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a 1960's Mercedes-Benz sedan of an indeterminate model and makes, most closely resembling a conglomeration of a 1976 Mercedes-Benz W123 and a 1965 Mercedes-Benz W108. The bodywork and hubcaps of SCP-XXXX are covered in a thin layer of dust and grime that cannot be removed by any means. SCP-XXXX appears to be in near-perfect condition; no damage is observed anywhere on the bodywork or interior, despite being largely unused for nearly thirty years.

Functionally, SCP-XXXX is indistinguishable from a non-anomalous automobile, requiring diesel fuel, brake fluid, engine oil, and other necessary substances to work correctly. SCP-XXXX's performance is not unlike that of similar vehicles. No set of keys exist to lock or unlock SCP-XXXX; the only key corresponding to it is the ignition, which cannot be removed by any means. Strangely, the bodywork and glass of SCP-XXXX are impervious to physical damage; SCP-XXXX will "absorb" the force from blunt-force damage and collision through unknown means.

The anomalous properties of SCP-XXXX manifest when it is driven close to other vehicles. Automobiles close to SCP-XXXX will experience a slight loss in traction and a significant increase in acceleration; there is no distinction about what kind of vehicles are affected, like motorbikes, bicycles, and airplanes similarly altered. Electronic equipment, such as vehicle engine management systems, GPS implements, and traffic lights, also experience an alteration in the form of a slight delay in input and output.

SCP-XXXX's primary anomalous effect manifests itself as a cognitohazardous influence it exerts on surrounding drivers. Those exposed to SCP-XXXX will engage in reckless behaviors while driving, including texting and driving, the use of alcohol, tailgating, and others. An opposite anomalous effect will also be present on SCP-XXXX's driver; this individual will appear to be exceedingly careful and wary of surrounding drivers and act to precisely adhere to an arbitrary set of traffic rules1. The effects SCP-XXXX has on its driver are not permanent and dissipate once the driver exits the vehicle.

Individuals affected by SCP-XXXX, designated SCP-XXXX-1, possess a memetic effect unseen in SCP-XXXX. Most individuals hold no recollection of their risky behavior. Still, they do hold a clear memory (designated SCP-XXXX-2) of SCP-XXXX itself, most commonly described as "a paranoid old man in a black sedan," regardless of who might be driving SCP-XXXX at the time. Those who are informed about this recollection are similar to SCP-XXXX-1 in that they are at a significant risk of participating in unsafe driving and likewise able to disseminate SCP-XXXX-2.

SCP-XXXX-2 can be distributed through various forms of media, whether that be a photo, drawing, or as spoken word. Multiple instances of SCP-XXXX-2 have been recovered and successfully neutralized. However, SCP-XXXX-2 cannot be formed from SCP-XXXX when it's stationary.

Addendum: SCP-XXXX-2 came to the Foundation's attention on January 5, 20█ , after a severe uptick in car accidents, vehicular manslaughter, illegal street racing, and carjackings originating in Beppu, Japan. The incidents appeared to follow a distinct path from Beppu to Osaka, which after further investigation, coincided with █████ Matsuo's road trip from Beppu to Osaka in the vehicle Matsuo claimed to have found in his father's barn. SCP-XXXX was promptly seized from Matsuo, who was administered Class 3 amnestics and issued a replacement vehicle. The Foundation is currently attempting to contain all instances of SCP-XXXX-2.
