Item #: SCP-4623
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-4623 is unable to be contained through any normal means. A 50km spherical no-fly zone has been established around it. No military aircraft are to breach this zone for any reason.
SCP-4623 is to be kept under satellite surveillance at all times by foundation personnel. If SCP-4623 exhibits any unrecorded anomaly, a major change to its flight path, or makes contact with civilian aircraft, it is to be immediately reported to the nearest level 4 or above personnel.
Description: SCP-4623 appears to be a Soviet-built MIG-21bis fighter jet that carries markings of the Bangladeshi air force. It is painted entirely silver minus the Bangladeshi markings and a forest green nosecone.
SCP-4623’s origin is currently under investigation. Despite the foundation contacting all countries that are known to have fielded this aircraft, including Russia and Bangladesh, no government official claims to have any knowledge of the origin of this aircraft. This led the foundation to believe that SCP-4623 is not a previously existing aircraft from any country’s air force.
SCP-4623 is able to exhibit aerodynamic properties that are currently impossible for any other aircraft to replicate. Including being able to accelerate from normal cruising speed to Mach 7 in under 15 seconds, as well as being able to make a 180 degree turn in under one second (See Addendum 4623-A) and being able to reach a recorded maximum altitude of 80,000 feet. It does not need to be refueled and has also never landed. It also does not run out of ammunition for any of its weapons, as it seemingly has an infinite supply.
SCP-4623 is extremely hostile towards any military aircraft that come with a 6.5km range of it, especially fighter aircraft. It will immediately attack military aircraft within range and will only stop when the pilot(s) have either been killed or have ejected from the aircraft.
SCP-4623 will usually avoid civilian aircraft, though it will not attack civilian aircraft that manage to come into contact with it.
Curiously, it may even act friendly towards some civilian aircraft depending on their country of origin. (See Addendum 4623-B). However, civilian aircraft that do come into direct visual contact with SCP-4623 are to be tracked until they leave the no-fly zone before being intercepted by no less than four (4) interceptor aircraft. The civilian aircraft will then land at the nearest possible airport. All persons aboard will be taken in for questioning before being given class-B amnesiacs and released.
SCP-4623 is known to be armed with the following armament:
x2 30mm automatic cannons.
x2 Air-to-air missiles of unknown make or origin.
x1 Centerline fuel tank. Curiously, this model of fuel tank is not used by the Bangladeshi air force
Addendum 4623-A
On [September 8th, 2006], SCP-4623 was picked up by RADAR over [Winnipeg, Canada]. Despite being contacted by multiple civilian and military air traffic control towers throughout the region, SCP-4623 failed to respond to any communication and continued with its flight path. 26 minutes after being detected, SCP-4623 was intercepted by two CF-18’s designated as
Vespa 1-1 and Vespa 1-2.
Addendum 4623-A Audio Communications Recording
[Recording begins as the two CF-18’s are within 10km of SCP-4623.]
Control: Vespa 1-1, you are to intercept a single aircraft over [DATA EXPUNGED]. Be advised, bogey has ignored all air traffic communications, and no airport within a 1000km radius has shown an aircraft with its specific flight path.
Vespa 1-1: Acknowledged. Moving to intercept bogey. Distance 9km. Angels 15. Bearing zero-four-zero.
[The CF-18’s close to within 7.5km]
Vespa 1-2: Control be advised, we have confirmed fighter aircraft. Identified one MIG-21.
Control: Acknowledged, continue moving to intercept.
[At 6.5 km, a burst of static is heard over the communications network before Vespa 1-1 reports in.]
Vespa 1-1: Control be advised, bogey has turned towards our direction and is now approaching us head-on. Vespa 1-2 go into fighter spread.
Vespa 1-2: Acknowledged.
[A missile lock-on warning can be heard in Vespa 1-1’s cockpit.]
Vespa 1-1: Control, bogey just fired a missile at me! I repeat, bogey is confirmed hostile! Permission to engage?
Control: Permission granted
Vespa 1-1: Fox 3
Vespa 1-2: Fox 3
Vespa 1-2: Whoa…What….in the fuck?
Control: Vespa 1-1, report.
Vespa 1-1: Bogey somehow outran our missiles before diving into some clouds. Visual has been lost. We’re searching now.
[26 seconds pass where nothing happens. Suddenly another burst of static can be heard.]
Vespa 1-2: WHOA SHIT! HE’S RIGHT ON ME!
Vespa 1-1: Visual acquired! [REDACTED] swing left, I’ll get him off you!
Vespa 1-1: Fox 2!
Vespa 1-2: What the fuck!? How is he doing that?
Vespa 1-1: Bogey has missile lock! Deploying chaff and flares!
Vespa 1-1: [Inaudible], roll right and come around! I’ll dive into the clouds and make him a target for you!
Vespa 1-2: Negative! He’s going after me!
[Vespa 1-2’s communications cuts out briefly before the connection is re-established. The sound of automatic cannon fire can be heard in the background.]
Vespa 1-2: Ah, damn it! Ejecting!
[At this point, all communications with both Vespa 1-1 and 1-2 were lost. A second order to scramble more fighter aircraft was belayed once foundation personnel realized what was happening. Dr. [Redacted] advised [REDACTED] military leaders not to send additional aircraft after SCP-4623. Four minutes after the engagement, SCP-4623 accelerated to Mach 6.7 before returning to cruising speed over international waters. A rescue helicopter located Vespa 1-2 near his plane’s wreckage three hours later. Vespa 1-2 reported that Vespa 1-1 was unable to eject and was killed.]
Addendum 4623-B
On February 9th, [DATA EXPUNGED] , Turkish Airlines flight [REDACTED] made direct visual contact with SCP-4623. As soon as it cleared the 50km radius, it was intercepted by four F-16’s from the [DATA EXPUNGED] air force. Its black box was recovered by foundation personnel. All persons aboard, including pilots and crew, were given class-B amnesiacs after questioning in accordance with containment procedures. The following is a transcript of an interview from the pilot of Turkish Airlines flight [REDACTED].
Addendum 4623-B Interview Audio Recording
Dr. [REDACTED]: Before I say anything else, I’d like to hear what from your account, you being the pilot and all. Could you tell me everything you remembered?
Omar [REDACTED]: Uhh, well…I remember that we were at 16,000 feet going about 900 kph. We were headed due north when the incident happened.
Dr. [REDACTED]: The incident? Could you please describe what happened?
Omar [REDACTED]: From the east, my co-pilot [REDACTED] spotted a silvery object heading towards us. At first, we weren’t sure what it could be. We hadn’t been contacted by any sort of ground communication. No one told us we were breaching unauthorized airspace, so we didn’t think it was a fighter or interceptor. At least at first.
Dr. [REDACTED]: At first. So it was a fighter?
Omar [REDACTED]: Yes, but as soon as it got within about two or three hundred meters, I could tell something was very wrong about this jet.
Dr. [REDACTED]: And what do you mean by that?
Omar [REDACTED]: Well for starters, it had the markings of the Bangladeshi air force. The thing was, we weren’t flying anywhere near Bangladesh. We were scheduled to land at [DATA EXPUNGED]. It flew over us, about…500 meters away maybe? Very high speeds, too. It must have been in afterburner when it crossed us, but we had no idea why. It came back around, this time from the west.
Dr. [REDACTED]: Did the pilot try to establish contact with you?
Omar [REDACTED]: No, they didn’t. I was waiting for them to contact us first, that usually how things work when a breach of airspace happens but….they didn’t. Then I looked to my left and saw it’s cockpit. There was no pilot, nothing there at all. Myself and [REDACTED] were stunned, we thought we were seeing things.
Dr. [REDACTED]: And then what happened?
Omar [REDATCED]: It rocked its wings side-to-side a few times. I knew enough that it was signaling us about something. After about five or six seconds later, it flipped over and dived. It disappeared not long after that.
Dr. [REDACTED]: Do you have any idea what this “signal” may have meant?
[Omar leans forward in his chair.]
Omar [REDACTED]: No clue. But I’ll tell you what, that has got to be one of the strangest things I have ever seen. As long as I live, I’ll never forget the plane with no pilot.
Dr. [REDACTED]: No, you will most certainly forget.
Omar [REDACTED]: What? What do you mean?
<END RECORDING>
Omar [REDACTED] was given class-B amnesiac treatment immediately after the interview, along with every other person aboard Turkish Airlines flight [DATA EXPUNGED] and released back into the population.
